Really impressive castle. Lots to see and well worth joining a tour - English ones available. Learned a lot about medieval warfare and weapons like the trebuchet recreated on site. Beautiful town to wander through too. Very busy though.

Great displays of guns and armour in a castle which is fairly untouched since the Middle Ages. Demonstration of forging and trebuchet film were excellent. Narrow, dark and steep staircases in places and the flow of traffic was unavoidable but marginally irritating. Children under 10 free!

Great castle. Lots to see & do. Lots of info re the history. Great guides. Cycle parking. Student discount. Can go into the village and then come back. Amazing views. V good value for money. Tours in French and English. An excellent day out.

The Museum of Medieval warfare is the most interesting thing about this castle. An incredible collection of original weapons of war. Some great views to over the Dordogne river. Our experience was ruined though by huge crowds of tourists crammed into some very small spaces. Try and avoid going in mid summer for a better experience. The Chateau of Beynac, on the other side of the Dordogne, is a more interesting castle to visit.

Having read many reviews we parked up the hill next to the chateau as it is only a short wall down the hill with the kids (2 and 4yrs) it costs 3euros but is well worth it. We got there early which is needed to get a space and the chateau was really busy by the time we left. The chateau was well set out and was easy to walk round the different exhibits, it is also cheaper if you go earlier! There was lots to see but not too much for the kids which happens too often. The views of the river and round to Le Roque were spectacular. We looked at the blacksmith demo before heading down to the lower car park for a picnic on the river. No charge for parking but there are not too many spaces. There is a boulangerie and a shop if you forget your picnic stuff too and an arm
