“A little oasis in the Dordogne”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

We stayed three nights here and it was perfect in every way. It is a great base to explore this beautiful area of France. Albert and Caitlin are wonderful hosts and have the art of running a B & B down pat. Although we chose the standard room it was very big with a bathroom to match. The building is beautiful and the room was nicely decorated. The bed was comfortable and was the only place on our European holiday that had a top sheet as well as the duvet which we appreciated. There were clean fluffy white towels daily and the room was tidied. It was cool and wet during our stay but the room was warm. The windows opened to let a gentle breeze in at night. The breakfast was great and we really enjoyed talking to Albert and Caitlin in their homely kitchen-dining area. There was a guest salon where it was possible to make tea and coofee, use a computer, TV or look at the many travel books and brochures on display. There was also a small fridge for communal use. We felt very relaxed and comfortable here and if ever in the area again would not go anywhere else to stay.

Like a good recipe, a dash of home-connect is the seasoning you find in France at La Tour de Cause B&B. Offered through American inn keepers from Northern California, the grand location is on the Dordogne, the river that flows through Perigueux province in southwest France. Nearby you find towns such as Bergerac, and Beynac of the royal dynasty Plantagenet. Village Castelnaud restorations of today offers visitors the monumental castle home of the American expatriate Josephine Baker, the infamous and talented negro actress & singer; Josephine was applauded and befriended by Princess Grace of Monaco. The deepest memories around here help us to recall 13th century France, the Hundred Years War, Crusader Simon de Montfort and his castle home, yet this area became a sudden casualty of the French Revolution. The B&B exterior entry is framed by an arched rose vine, the food is outstanding and the remodeled farmhouse is tastefully equipped with imaginative amenities in each charming room. I met several interesting people at the breakfast gathering. I did not try the swimming pool, but I liked the neighboring horse breeders, the woods and bridges. I liked it all and I hope to return to this B&B belonging to Caitlain and Alfred Woodbury.

We stayed for five nights at this comfortable, beautiful B and B. Caitlin and Albert were warm and welcoming hosts/owners. Being at the B and B was like being with family. Our room (room 1) was artistic and spacious with thoughtful details provided for guests.
Caitlin and Albert gave us excellent recommendations for sightseeing and dining--we truly had a memorable stay!

This was a breath of fresh air...Caitlin and Albert are wonderful hosts...made me feel like I was visiting friends, but catered to my every need! Ideally located in the middle of several chateaux...you could stay here and see alot without ever going more than 5 miles away! I stayed in the room with a kitchen, which I thought would be tiny, but it was very spacious, and everything I needed, like pans, and knives, etc. As were all the rooms. The upper floor rooms have fabulous high ceilings, with exposed beams (poutres). All the rooms and bathrooms are spacious, plenty of room to move around and store your things.
Pool was wonderful. Will return!

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the kitchen if you want to cook. There is a lounge, where you can store thing...

I joked with Albert the owner that I did not believe all his five star reviews on trip adviser and I was going to give him a three .But having stayed Caitlin and Albert's wonderful bed and breakfast I want to give it a six. The house , room and pool are great. But best of all are the owners Caitlin and Albert's made us feel like friends that had come to stay rather than paying guest there knowledge and love of the area helped make our trip to the Dordogne a great experience. Some of the best meals we have had where at recommendation from Caitlin and let her make the booking she seems to be able to get the best tables.

Stayed here for one week while attending a wedding in the nearby chateau. Chateau Lacoste and the village of Castelnaud were both about 30 minutes walk away or about 3 minutes by car. The surrounding area is spectacular. The accommodation was first rate with a lovely swimming pool.Caitlin and Albert were wonderful hosts and couldn't do enough to make one's stay as pleasant as possible. The continental breakfasts in their spacious kitchen were freshly prepared with plenty of choice.

This really is a wonderful place to stay in the Dordogne.

Caitlin & Albert are perfect hosts, incredibly kind & helpful, and invariably make you feel like old friends rather than paying customers. Every morning at breakfast they offer help and advice for the day, recommending local attractions, both those on the common tourist trail and the more 'hidden' gems as well. Both of the rooms that I've stayed in (having been here twice now) have been large, smart, clean and well looked after. The facilities, particularly the pool, is excellent, a wonderful relaxing way to spend a summer afternoon.

In terms of location, this couldn't be better - 20 minutes walk from the spectacular Castelnaud castle, with numerous other attractions (Roc Gageac, Beynac castle, Marqueyssac being my favourites) just a few minutes drive away, and Sarlat not far.

This is the perfect base from which to explore the Dordogne.

Room Tip: Even though there is no A/C, the rooms are always cool even in the hottest of temperatures - it was...
