We did not stay there, but chose it for dinner on the recommendation of the B&B that we were staying at.

Could not fault it, other than the fact they it was very busy the night we were there with one very large group, so it was a bit slow.

The owner is an entertaining bloke who has great passion for his restaurant.

First class service from an attentive waiter and the owners. We felt like one of the family.

Fabulous fresh produce. There was a set menu the night we went, with 5 perfect courses. The pasta is sublime, and the chocolate cake perfect.

I questioned the bill as it seemed too low for what we had received, but was told that it was correct. I have never done this before, but it was incredible value for money.

This is a review for the restaurant @ this hotel.( Vallegloria La Barberie )

Placed @ the highest part of the Mountain, we arrived hungry & exhausted after witnessing the Tradition festival of flowers, 60 days after Easter.

The crowds were huge & we thought we might struggle 2 find a quality eatery, we wandered thru the doors spoke our very average Italian & was quickly placed @ a table for 4, we were greeted by 1 of the 2 brothers that run/own the place.

He quickly explained ( we think!? ) in Italian, that due 2 the festival, the kitchen had organised a set
menu. 5 courses later plus vino, coffee, cheese's, etc, etc, a bill was placed on our table, it was half the price we anticipated!! ( mainly due to the fantastic quality of produce, including the home made pasta).

I recommend sitting back & letting the 2 crazy brothers tell u what's good, u will not be disappointed.

They could easily have their own TV show, they are that entertaining ( both apologizing 4 the other, when the brother leaves the room! )

Certainly worth the journey!

Erika Braidich is the hardest working woman in Umbria. Ms. Braidich is the manager of Time's Hotel (yes, it does have an apostrophe), which is at the top of Spello, near Porta Montanara.

Before we arrived at Time's Hotel for the first time, we had difficulty to imagine its location, so a detailed description follows for readers who are interested in geography. There are two entrances to the hotel: the door to the hotel's lobby opens off the western side of Piazza Antonio Gramschi -- enter 42.995715, 12,671659 into the search bar at maps.google.com -- but there is little traffic through that door; the main entrance is off of Piazza Vallegloria immediately opposite the tower of Santa Maria di Vallegloria. If you enter 42.995962, 12.8671562 into maps.google.com and choose satellite view, you will see that the pointer is located at the top of what looks like a white L shape. The pointer is at the gate to the outdoor patio of Time's Hotel, and the white L is the crushed white gravel of the patio area. Immediately to the east of Time's Hotel is another hotel and restaurant, La Bastiglia, which is also slightly down from Time's Hotel on the east slope of the ridge upon which the town of Spello was built. The accompanying photos will provide more context.

Going beyond the physical location, the most important consideration for a prospective guest to know is that the Time's Hotel is primarily a restaurant/bar that has a few hotel rooms to let rather than a grand hotel with an included restaurant. The more hoity-toity La Bastiglia next door, with its Michelin-starred restaurant, fits the latter description better. Where La Bastiglia is borderline stuffy, Times Hotel is hip, and the restaurant attracts a younger, more casually dressed, clientele. Two of the rooms in the Time's Hotel -- Nos. 105 and 106 -- are in an outbuilding, probably the former stable, east of the main patio and north of a smaller lower-level outdoor seating area for private parties. Next to the main upper patio is the main indoor dining area, which comprises most of the ground floor of Time's Hotel. There are about a half dozen rooms on the upper level of the main building up a staircase from the lobby and front desk. Our party comprised three married couples in three rooms, 105 and 106 in the outbuilding, and one of the rooms above the front desk.

Presiding over the entire operation is the redoubtable Ms. Braidich. She manages the hotel and she supervises the restaurant even to overseeing the chefs in the kitchen; she does everything, and is constantly on the move. Despite her constant activity, she is always available to the hotel guests to answer any question and always to be helpful and to enhance the quality of the stay. She knows all bout every wine on her wine list. It is not possible that she can get more than two or three hours of sleep a night, but she always is smiling. Her native tongue is Italian, but you will have no difficulty communicating with her in English.

The rooms are very spacious -- bathrooms excepted, as will be mentioned later -- spotlessly clean, and (surprisingly) quiet. Our room (105) was immediately next to the hip outdoors bar area, and on warm nights when the bar was well patronized, the noise never intruded into our room. The bathrooms -- at least in 105 and 106 -- were a bit tight. They need more shelf room to put a Dopp kit upon, and even Superman would not have room to change out of his Clark Kent identity in that shower. The water pressure in the bathrooms was gratifyingly high, but, given the space inside the enclosure, taking a shower was a bit like facing a fire hose in a vertical culvert. Whoosh!

The quality of the food in the restaurant is quite high, and the menu prices are reasonable. The breakfast included in the room price is typical: that is, croissants and yogurt and fresh fruit, and is served outdoors in the patio, weather permitting.

We stayed just short of a full week at Time's Hotel, and we happily would stay there again; in fact, we probably shall.
