“give it a ride”
Reviewed 12 September 2013

if you are not up for poshy places while your vacation, this is it. All you well have at Los Lobos is peace and freedom. If you are a horse riding person its gone be small heaven for you. The area around is beautiful especially from the horseback. Susan who runs the rancho is a great person.
the rooms are nice and big, no problem with hot water, just be where of ants in you kitchen.
the pool is great when you get off the horseback, and want to chill a bit. The rancho it self is beautiful and peaceful place kept in traditional style. I had a great time there, even prolonged my stay 1 day. Los Lobos is grate base to see all Cadiz area, sea and mountain. I will be back there!

If what you are looking for is peace and quiet, a little hiking, pool, tennis and horseback riding in a natural setting in Southern Spain not far from the coast, then Rancho los Lobos is an ideal destination. I love tennis, horses, hiking and relaxing by the pool so to have all of these things available in one place was a true revelation.

The real focus at the ranch is the horses. The ranch´s manager, Susan (she is Swiss, but speak English and a little Spanish), is very capable especially with the horses. We stayed 3 nights and I rode once and it was a very nice experience. You have a choice of Western or English. Susan has you catch up the horse, groom and saddle your mount before the ride, which was nice for me because we used to have horses and it has been a while since I have been able to participate fully (most places bring your mount saddled and ready). The scenery around Jimena is beautifull and if you take multiple rides Susan will take through different areas where you can appreciate the diverse scenery. On my ride we rode along the the Río Hozgarganta past an 18 century munitions factory and its adjacent canal.

As for other activities at the ranch there are mountain bikes for rent, hiking in the surrounding park area called Los Alcornocales and on the ranch itself there is a swimming pool, ping pong and a very well-maintained tennis court. The pool is kept sparkling clean and is surrounded by a fragrant hedge which doubles as a wind break. The pool is not enormous, but for the number of rooms at the ranch it is perfect. We were fortunate to have really nice weather (about 27C) during the first week of september and so we swam every day twice a day.

The ranch itself is very nice both architectural, it is an old Spanish farm, and with regards to confort. The inner courtyard gets lots of shade and there are tables with benches where you can enjoy a cold drink and a snack at just about any time of day. There is a bar, which is primarily self service and in the same building there is kitchen with a small table for guests who are not staying in an apartment which was the case with us (we will opt for an apartment if we return as they have more room and a kitchen - the 2 apartments were occupied during our stay). Dinner is offered upon request. We partook one night when a barbeque was on offer. Very nice and the cook, Hans, was a professional chef before in Germany. Our room included a continental breakfast which was good.

Lastly the room that we had was a double with WC and shower and was absolutely fine considering that we spend 90% of our time out of the room since the weather was so nice. The bathroom was a little small, but nothing to complain about. Like I said the next time we will insure that we get an apartment as we like to have more space. Rooms and common area were clean and well maintained.

We spent our mornings exploring the surrounding villages especially Jimena de la Frontera with its white house, very steep streets and castle. Lots to see and do on a short getaway. Overall and excellent experience. I definitely recommend Rancho los Lobos and we will be back.

Room Tip: Apartments offer the most space and flexibility
