“Superb staff, quality facilities and lovely rural location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2013

Excellent staff, quality hotel and lovely rural location made our stay with friends on our annual reunion even more memorable. 5 minute easy stroll into peaceful local village centre with several bars and restaurants serving quality food. If you are searching for your English all day breakfast, this won't suit you - if you want genuine local atmosphere and the amusing mystery of food ordered, a little lost in translation, then give it a go. Car hire a must but give the excellent train service a go too (better timings from nearby San Rocque). Reception staff went out of their way to assist (thanks to Montse, Rashid and Rebecca) and all members of catering department gave fantastic service too.

Room Tip: book superior or deluxe. take some clothes hangers!

We spent our recent annual reunion holiday in NH Castellar and had a great time. The food was very good and the service provided by all staff was excellent.
It is a quiet location, close to the village of Castellar where additional options are also available to eat and drink. The hotel provides a very good base to visit other towns in the region.

We recently stayed at this hotel for four nights. It is a very quiet hotel due to its location but this can be a bonus if you are looking to relax. It has a lovely pool area and nice seating areas. We didn't try the Wellness Room as it is not open off peak season. The restaurant food can be a little hit and miss but overall it was a nice dining experience. There was a chap who worked front of desk in the evening who was an asset to the hotel regards his helpfulness, well done to him.
The town is very quiet with a few small bars but it is pleasant to stroll through. Car Hire is essential as it is over 120KM from Malaga airport and a car is needed to access all other tourist areas. A taxi to Gibraltar is 25 Euros each way but it is worth it as it takes the hassle of parking out of the trip and you can just go through the border after being dropped off.

Stayed here for 2 nights. It is a great place to wind down and relax. Close to the national park makes it very peaceful and quiet. The village is very sleepy but does have a few bars if you want to venture out. Staff were excellent. English spoken very well. I was travelling on business and driving into Cadiz everyday, which was only a 20 minute drive.

I stayed here for four nights in November on a business trip. I found this hotel to be friendly and welcoming. It was beautifully decorated and had a quiet cosy atmosphere(fire lit in the evenings). My room was huge - compared with most hotel rooms. The outside space was also lovely - two terraces to chose from - one with a beautiful garden full of orange trees. I had read some not so good reviews about the food but I enjoyed all the food I had and it was very reasonably priced. The hotel is in a quiet town but a great spot to use as a base for visiting Andalucia.

Room Tip: My room looked out onto the town but other rooms look into the beautiful courtyard with orange trees

I was travelling with my kid for a tennis week in Sotogrande and after a long though we decide to stay at this hotel (even if its more than 10 km to drive between Castellar and Sotogande). It was the best decision that we can make,
The hotel is very clean, the room was bright, enougt space to feel comortable and the maid was cleaning every day.
The staff from reception was impeccable. ( especially Rachid, but not only ). Smiling all the time very polite and perfect with my kid. Also, not a single question without a perfect answer. Excellent team!
We had half board and the food was excellent. Breakfast very varied and tasty more that we need. At the dinner two different dishes plus desert. Again more than enough.
Waiters was smiling and try to do everithing perfect so the clients fell relaxed.
Certainly one of the best hotel and team ever

When we first visited this hotel we were told by a very friendly manager that the hotel was owned by an English individual. The hotel has clearly been designed very carefully and all the fittings, furniture etc is to a very high standrad. The deco has also been very carefully designed. The rooms are the best we have stayed in and having taken many friends and staff there everyone has been very impressed. The hotel is now owned by NH Hotels but the staff seem to be the same and are as friendly and helpful as ever. Value for money is excellent though every time we have been there has been low season. I know this sounds like an advert but I have been motivated to write this review after a terrible experience in the Senator Spa Hotel in Cadiz. I hope the standards dont change and the NH Castellar continues to provide a lovely hotel for weekends away.

Room Tip: Try and get an upgrade if the hotel is not busy. The larger rooms are truly exceptional.
