This is a must when visiting the Saltaire area. It is great to see things like this still in use and our lttle boy thought it was amazing. Very scenic when going up through the bluebells!!

small 'tram' - like a carriage that goes up and down the hill through small woodlands. Great it is still running after all these years, staffed largely by volunteers I imagine. costs a few pounds for a family and you can go on as many times as you want during the day. We only went up and down once but it was fun for the children. Small sweetshop selling old fashioned jars of sweets at the top. Small museum of old artefacts and old fashioned shop items at the bottom. well done to the people that keep this bit of history going.

My children and I visited the tramway when we were in the area over the Easter holidays. We parked at the Prod Lane end where was a limited amount of parking available. The tickets cost £1 for adults and 50p for children for unlimited trips that day, so excellent value. The lovely staff were all friendly and knowledgeable, giving us directions on how to get to Saltaire at the other end through Robert's Park.

The delightful 2 carriage tram is a replica of the original, but still fairly old in it's own right. My children were fascinated by the way the seat backs moved across the seat so you could always face forward. The tramway is only about half a mile and the ride itself only took a few minutes, but the glen was magical.

There is a small exhibition about the tramway at the Saltaire end of the line and it's then a 10 minute stroll into the village through the park.

The tramway is a lovely little bit of history and well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Lovely visit with family including my Mum in wheelchair (87 years old) and my sister's mother-in-law (late 70s). Parking is free opposite Robert's Park. There is a path leading to the Tramway opposite Roberts's Park which is suitable for a wheelchair. We left the wheelchair at the bottom station of Shipley Glen Tramway and bought a return ticket, £2.00 for unlimited rides. The tram goes through a wood uphill and finishes after about quarter of a mile. We then went into the small Edwardian style sweet shop and bought old-fashioned sweets. The area is pretty and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Mum enjoyed the visit very much especially now she gets tired legs so she was able to see the woods which were too difficult for her to walk in. We also went into the tiny museum and one lady visiting told us she used to go on the tram as a child and how she loved it there and had very happy memories of the place. We combined this visit with a walk round lovely Roberts Park, tea and cakes at the Half Moon Café in Roberts Park and a walk by the river. We then visited the Woolpack where Emmerdale used to be filmed and went for a late afternoon meal at the Halfway House on Utley Road. We thought it was a lovely day out. It is a lovely area for dog walking and you can take dogs on the tram if they are well behaved.

I took my grandkids to see santa this Christmas. We had a great time. The staff couldnt have been more helpful.Santa was great with all the kids even though it was quite busy,he spent time with every child. They all got a nice gift ,and road the wheels off the tram. The sweet shop was a real blast from the past My grandkids are all now addicted to murray mints!.As for the comment from the lady who turned up when the tramway was closed, well Im sorry but you can hardly blame the staff for that.It clearly states the dates and times of opening on the website, and it is run by volunteers. All in all a great day out, well done to all.We will be back when the weather picks up.Thanks for a great day out.
