“Pretentious little cafe.”
Reviewed 24 February 2012

Welcome.... Do you want to know what soup we have? After approx two mins with menu... Are you ready to order? Paninis were good, accompanied by a warm less than average salad. Coke served by the glass (from a 2 litre bottle) £1.40. Clientele pompous middle aged.
Lots of rules which must only work due to the distinct lack of competition- "we do not serve just drinks & or cakes/ munchies between 12 & 2" and "minimum charge £5 per head between 12-2pm"
Beware the cafe!!!!

“Tasty food, friendly welcome”
Reviewed 14 July 2011

We visited Massarella's during our visit to West Yorkshire and the World Heritage village of Saltaire. We noticed that they have a banner above their cafe stating that they were one of the top 10 eateries in Bradford as voted in a national newspaper.

We're really glad we tried that the cafe as the food was superb.

We enjoyed a BLT and a chicken and mayo baguette, both served with fresh salad and crisps. It was obvious that all the ingredients were fresh and our food was made after we ordered (not like some places were sandwiches are made hours before). The homemade lemonade was lovely, very refreshing. Afterwards we had homemade Victoria sponge and a lemon drizzle slice; I only wish I could get my Victoria sponges to rise as well as Ellen's - my husband declared it was delicious, and my lemon drizzle was made with ground almonds and polenta, YUMMY!

There were a good selection of paninis and sandwiches, we took some time deciding on our order, as well as cakes. My only regret is that it was too warm a day to try one of Ellen's scrumptious sounding soups - maybe next time.

We were made very welcome by the owner Ellen Massarella, who we enjoyed chatting to, and never felt rushed during our time there. A pity we had spent up during our last day of our visit in Saltaire as there were lots of beautiful artwork to tempt us!

Thank you Ellen for a great experience, we will be back and we recommend Massarella's with pleasure.
