We had a party booking of over 10 people so we were asked if we would like to prebook our meals. We all arrived and were seated then our drinks orders were placed and all arrived together as did all the courses, no waiting for 1 one to arrive before we could all start. The food was excellent and so were the staff. There was music playing in the background but we could still talk without shouting. Lovely evening would recommend Vicars to everyone.

A group booking for eleven could have been a challenge but not at vicars.
I visited last Friday to enjoy the Bistro menu. We were asked to pre order our meal before we arrived to enable all our meals to be served together and we were not disappointed. The starters were served promptly at seven thirty with us all enjoying the food together. A relaxing evening with an enjoyable ambience. The remaining courses were all served together without the frustration of waiting for missing dishes. The food was delicious fresh and hot.
I enjoyed pigeon as a starter for the first time and would highly recommend you try it. Definitely worth a visit.

We stopped here for lunch after visiting Salt's Mill. The decor and atmosphere make this an attractive place, and the service was friendly and prompt. My chicken and bacon sandwich was very good with tasty bread and good quality ingredients. My wife found the beef in her sandwich to be rather thinly cut and perhaps from a supermarket, and our friend was puzzled by the olive bread of her sandwich which was like a thick flat griddle cake, but rather dry. We all spend a lot of time in Italy and have not come across anything of this sort over there. However we all enjoyed the coleslaw garnish with a very nice dressing and the coffee was excellent. Pity as it looked very promising as we went in.

We were so glad to learn that Vicars restaurant had return in an evening so made a beeline for it as soon as possible. We loved the old format so were eager to try it out again. The set-up is the same in that it is still a community hub and there are events going on during the day and it is a not-for-profit organisation. Happily we were not disappointed.
We had the pate and the deep fried brie as starters and both chose the beef bourguignon for the main course. The portion sizes were generous and everything was well cooked and tasty. It was a little odd to find pickled onions in the beef dish but apart from that we enjoyed our food. It was all home cooked and very rustic. The baked cheesecake was also very good and came with an excellent plum compote. The small wine list has some interesting choices and is reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful and I would recommend this if you want an informal, comforting meal with no frills.

We popped in here for lunch and had a goats cheese salad and a ceaser salad. The bistro is set up as a social hub for the local community and you are made to feel very welcome. The food was plentiful and really tasty. The bistro is light and airey, very clean and very relaxing atmosphere. Will definitely return.

My next comment is definitely not a negative... just a little feedback. We were over the moon that you have food on the menu for dairy/lactose and gluten free food too. Eating out with allergies is sometimes not easy so thankyou... However we would have loved to have a coffee but you only had dairy milk and no soya milk so we couldn't have one with you.
