“Aagrah.....aagh not great”
Reviewed 16 December 2011

Have been a fan of Aagrah chain for many years but but this buffet at Shipley is not up to the usual standards. We have had 3 recent visits to the buffet in the very recent past. On 2 occasions we found the staff to be very pushy in getting us out asap. The food at the buffet is generally spicy mush - soggy samosas and broken kebab bits. No decent starters were available such as fish or chicken pakoras. Neither was there any naan or roti. We asked for some but the took ages to arrive and then only one small piece each.
Staff were not very enthusiastic about bringing water to the table - being more interested in selling alcohol.
All this while the loudest pop music was blasted out from the speakers.
It is expensive at about £14 a head for food only.
We recently ate from the a la carte menu and it was far better. No more buffet for us.....

“Very good quality buffet.”
Reviewed 11 December 2011

Visited with 9 friends this weekend. Table booked by one of them, a fiver a head deposit paid by card over the phone secured the booking.

Arrived at 9pm and found the place to be quite busy. Greeted by staff pleasantly and shown upstairs to the dedicated buffet area. No complaints there either, staff friendly and attentive.

All 11 of us (including a fussy non meat eater) found the selection on offer very, very good. The lamb starter carvery was wonderful. Mains plentiful and all delicious.

Sweets very fair too.

Drinks prices reasonable, draught lagers on offer as well as bottles. Not always the case in Bradford 'curry houses'.

Only gripe was the fact the staff 'forgot' to deduct the £5 a head deposit paid over the phone, leaving the bill at £207. Should've been £162. When reminded of this, the manager seemed to have trouble finding any record of the booking and deposit paid. No real argument though, sorted amicably. Just wonder if they thought 'cos we'd all had a few drinks we may have forgotten...

All in all, a very enjoyable evening though. Great food, good surroundings and atmosphere. Hard to believe it used to be a car showroom!

Our only other experience of Aagrah was at a Bollywood Cricket event at Headingley a few years ago, where we were lucky enough to be in the VIP area. The food was excellent then but I honestly thought it'd been created to such a high standard for the Bollywood stars present. Our visit last night confirms it wasn't.

Would recommend Aagrah to anyone. We'll be back.

“Catering for party of 50 very well done”
Reviewed 20 November 2011

50 people at a colleague's retirement party were very well catered for in the upstairs room.
3 bar staff were available for the mass arrival, so waiting time at the bar was minimal (Kingfisher and Carlsberg on draught, Cobra bottled) and service friendly and efficient.
The food was a set menu, with a selection of each course delivered to the the tables (each fitted with a rotating table). The food was very good, and the staff attentive- and quick and willing to replenish any starter or main that had been finished. There was also regular requests as to whether anyone wanted more drinks. 2 English style deserts to finish ( a chocolate mousse, and a strawberry "eton mess" style dish)
The food could have been hotter (in temperature)- especially as the rotating table platform had tea lights located under the position of each dish, but these were not used, and the food cooled quickly. That apart this was very good food, and 50 people were really efficiently served.

“Excellent”
Reviewed 13 November 2011

What can I add that others haven’t already said?
If you are visiting Shipley or Bradford and are looking for a quality Indian meal rather than just a cheap feed, then the Aagrah is the place to come.
I've never been here before and visited on the recommendation of friends who live in Bradford, I’m glad we did.
Food was high quality and very good, the buffet was continuously being replenished and obviously it’s better to have a freshly prepared dish than one that’s been standing around a while.
We were lucky to be standing in line when the Samosas were topped up so they were crispy and I would say some of the best I have ever eaten. The lamb carvery was delicious. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
The restaurant and toilets are clean. It’s very busy, so be sure to book to get a table. Excellent value for money.
The only downside I could point out is that the entrance to the restaurant is round the back and up a ramp, so it isn’t too inviting and we were a bit apprehensive but it’s a big surprise when you get inside, so don’t be put off.
We stayed at the Ibis Hotel which I also recommend and is within easy walking distance.
