“Brilliant place”
Reviewed 8 September 2013

We have visited the Mason's Arms on a number of occasions over the last couple of months and have not been disappointed.
The food is excellent really , huge portions,
Last time we went we both had the rack of lamb with seasonal veg, it was perfect, this was followed by sticky toffee pudding, again very large portions.
They also serve a good selection of local beers

Recently stayed overnight at the Masons Arms in Gargrave, a group of us went, the men played golf during the day and we all met up in Gargrave for the evening.
Gargrave is a delightful little village on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and a perfect place to stay for walking holidays or just a day out in the beautiful surroundings.
Our rooms were in an annexe at the back of the pub and were perfectly adequate, nicely furnished and a good size with a nice en suite bathroom. The only drawback was that the front windows of our room were directly on the roadside with people walking past, but we didn't find it noisy at all.
We didn't eat there in the evening but saw some meals being served which looked very good with generous portions.
Breakfast was served in the bar, this had to be ordered the day before and left with the staff and it was excellent, good quality food and perfectly cooked.
I was sorry we were only there one night and will certainly go back when we next fancy a visit to the Dales, or the men have another golf competition in nearby Settle.

This is a great place to stay. John and his Wife could not do enough for us. Rooms were very clean and modern with lot's of tea's and coffees and hot chocolate on offer. Bathroom was modern with nice shower and shampoo's etc. Had the evening meal in the pub which was very nice and the local's were very friendly. Pre ordered breakfast which was cooked as requested and had loads of extra tea/ coffee and toast. Would highly recommend anyone staying here.

...because the Mason's is a super inn in a super village.

Gargrave is a delightful spot to enjoy walking, it offers grand canal towpath walking opportunities as well as wonderful limestone scenery on its doorstep. Good bus services, though pricey, but with very friendly and helpful drivers are provided by Pennine Motors. The only down side is the noisy, busy road which bisects an otherwise tranquil village but sited down a quiet back street is the Mason's Arms.

There were ten of us requiring five ensuite rooms, good meals, good beers and somewhere to relax after days out. The Mason's exceeded our expectations and more besides.

The rooms: modern, clean, comfortable and well-equipped. There is direct access to the beer garden and car park from each room.

The food: somewhat better than pub grub and generally very well-cooked. The evening dinners were tasty and the portions were more than satisfying. What excelled were the breakfasts. Fresh local produce and LOADS of it. Our plates were piled with very tastily cooked food, plenty toast and pots of tea and coffee. No tinned stuff! They were most probably the best cooked breakfasts we've had.

The staff: were more than welcoming and helpful, nothing was too much trouble and they made our stay memorable. Very approachable and personable bar and kitchen staff.

The locals: a friendly bunch of good Yorkshire folk who patiently put up with our pensionerly boisterousness. The bar was always busy even on weekday evenings and if that's not a good sign of a good pub I don't know what is!

The beer: well-kept casks ales and a good variety of keg drinks.

Overall: A really great place to stay and we even had a game of bowls thrown in for good measure!
When John the owner reads this he'll no doubt remember who we are and all ten of us would like to thank him and his staff once again for giving us a fantastic time and making us feel right at home.

To anyone reading this I would say get yourself booked in for a stay, ten of us seasoned travellers definitely recommend this inn.

Room Tip: The family room is spacious.

Chose this pub for a couple of nights' B and B due to its price, reviews and proximity to dales walks. We were very pleased with our choice; nice rooms, very friendly service, excellent beer and good food. The Mason's Arms has three new fans from the north east.

Three of us stayed two nights B&B on a ladies' Dales walking trip and this proved to be an excellent base. Proper village pub that does not pretend to be something it's not. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. John the owner really looked after us. Good, well kept beer and lovely, wholesome, home cooked food - if you want a gastro pub eat somewhere else. (One suggestion though would be to add another fish dish). Rooms were quite spacious and had everything you need including good quality hair dryers. The very hot bath was so welcome after a hard day's walking and the bed was probably the comfiest I have slept in with good quality duvets and bed linen. All in all a convivial and relaxing two night stay and absolutley fantastic value for money. Oh and despite the shocking forecast the sun had his hat on!

We stayed on a Charity Cycle trip and were pleased with the service and hospitality offered. Good Food, nice Beer, a proper pub atmosphere in a secluded area away from the main Gargrave 'A' road. Clean rooms with all the amenities and good information as to when and where everything was located and at what times food was served. Many Thanks
