“Few negatives but lovely complex and resort for families”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2014

My family and myself (me hubbie and two children age 5 and 1) have just returned from a lovely week at the Estival Park hotel complex in La Pineda. I will break my review into sections.

Reception on arrival: We arrived local time around 11am after the early flight from Luton Airport. As expected our room wasnt ready (not many hotels can you check in till the pm) We were given our room number and hotel details and our all inclusive wrist bands and the Thomson rep helped us put our luggage in the luggage hold room. We went down to the outside seating area and just waited only with other families and couples and as we already had our wristbands could use these straight away. The reception staff were helpful and friendly. Our room was ready a couple of hours later.

The Room: We were given a top floor pool side room as requested, this had a lovely view over the pool in hotel 2 and could see the beach and the sead and the port of Terragona. On arrival to the room we noticed that the corridors could do with a bit of a revamp (but this is a very busy hotel and cleaners were cleaning all the time)
Our room was very large which was good as we had two large single beds a childrens bed and a cot. On arrival the cot was not in the room but after a visit to reception this was quickly brought to us. However the travel cot they brought to us was not to standard and was dirty around the edges and very well used. I mentioned this to the Thomson rep and this was replaced within half an hour. The bedding on the cot was spotless and very clean as were all of the beds.
Some other areas of our room were tired and needed fixing trim handing of units and wardrobe door was pushed in and wouldnt open this was again rectified very quickly and they also came and re cleaned the bathroom for us. Like previously stated the hotel is very well used and could do with a bit of updating. The room was cleaned well each day and beds made and towels replaced ( these were also very clean and soft). We did have a bit of noise from a generator or air con unit that was on the roof near us which did wake me most nights but children (or hubbie!)didnt hear it !!

The Pool: you could use and of the pools in all three hotels we chose to use hotel 1's pool most of the time as this was quieter and you could walk into it like the sea so we found it better for our young children. All three were kept clean at all times with the water being tested through the day.

Hotel Grounds: The grounds were gorgeous and very well kept bins and tables cleaned throughout the day.

Food: We found the food to be very good and well cooked, Some things were repeated on a dailey basis but there were always different things too. The resturant as buffett style could get very busy but we never had to que to get in. If you want a sit down resurant then a family hotel is not for you as of courde there will be children about. The resurant was well cleaned and food replaced even when trays were still half fully. The staff worked very hard in here. No one had any problems witht he food. And there was always something for our baby to eat too. You need to remember you are in a different country so things wont be the same as home !!

The Staff: we found most of the staff to be lovely. They always took time to talk to us and our children. Again a smile or hello to them and they are nice to you. They all work very hard to keep the hotel going and clean. Some do not speak much english but then most of us donet speak mych spanish !! My parents are still there for a few days and they were asked at dinner last night where we were.

Some people moan about the rude russian guests well there are a few that are and they are very stern but there were aslo some less desirable English guests too !

Entertainment: we didnt use the kids club but the girls that run it are lovely. Both our boys enjoyed the nightly mini disco also run byt these girls and as we joined in the games around the pool on the days we were there they also spoke eveythime you see them and were very welcoming. evening entertainment is not for us although a couple of acts were ok.

La Pineda: Lovely sea front and beach, yes to the left is the port of Tarragona which is busy with ships in and out out but the promanade is lovely and clean and lined with palm trees. To walk to the beach you walked htrough the hotel gounds and over the road. The local bus company is also very good with a member of staff at each bus stop helping the visitors. You cna buy a bus card from the bus shop on the front and this works out much cheaper. we visited terragon and by mistake left our rucksack with camera and video camer on the bus. We went into the bus staion where we got dropped off and theyrang the bus driver from the number on our ticket and he came back to the station with our bag a big relief (would have never have got it back in this country!!) Here we went on the road train which took us round this was very good for the money you could get on and off witht the ticket all day we stayed on and went round twice as it was very busy getting back on esp with a baby and a buggy ! You were also given headphones to listen to on the way round. we also visted Cambrils which was lovely with a marina.

All in all we had a lovely holiday, hotel could do with a bit a of a revamp in areas. We would return although we prefer to visit different places each holiday. I wouldnt say this hotel is for couples although couples were there but a nice resort for familys.

Room Tip: Pool view if you dont mind hearing evening entertainment or golf course side if you want quiet

We have recently returned from staying at Estival Park Hotel 1 for two weeks and to say we were unimpressed is an understatement.

Firstly the Positives:

1) Hotel Location is good.

2) Children's entertainment is great both my children were up dancing every night.

Now the negatives:

1) Food is cooked well however choice is very repetitive, the same food every other day, to the point we had to go out for a couple of nights for some variety

2) Some of the restaurant, bar and reception staff are rude and unhelpful, .I accidentally left my daughters drinking cup at dinner, I didn't realise until the following morning so checked with reception to see if it was handed in rather than a Sorry sir it has not been handed in reception started to lecture me how I should of contacted them immediately. It come across as the kids at the hotel being an inconvenience to the staff.

3) Evening entertainment is repetitive, in two weeks we saw two ballroom dancing bands, three magicians, three balancing acts. If I had a red buzzer Britain Got Talent Style it would of been pressed on numerous occasions.

4) First Choice say this is a splash park in the brochure, I would class this as a con, it is a 500 meter walk to the water park and when in side you need to pay for sun loungers, it would have been cheaper to book the hotel without the splash park element and buy the tickets at the door and take advantage of the special offers at the water park.

5) Beware of the rude Russian guests, no manners at all. Please and thanks wouldn't go a miss and queuing is obviously something they don't understand.

For the money we paid for this family holiday it was very poor value for money and we certainly will not be returning.

My family, which is myself, my partner and our 2 kids 12 & 8 arrived at Estival park Hotel 2 on the 29 July from Cardiff and stayed for 2 weeks, it had been the first holiday abroad for some years and we were not disappointed, on arrival our room 2045 was not ready as we arrived at 1030 but once checked in and all inclusive bands sorted we placed our suitcases in storage and headed for the pool, if you have an early arrival a quick tip is to take your swimming costumes in a rucksack to allow you to use the pool whilst waiting for your room, we used the pool pretty much every day, the sun beds were taken very early in the morning which didn't bother us much as we were very rarely out of the pool.

The food selection in the restaurant during meal times was amazing and the staff were great, the snack bar and self service drinks were fantastic, we went to aquapolis water park twice and thoroughly enjoyed along with portaventurer and the house of illusions, my only grumble was that as we were on the ground floor in a family duplex room and when we left our towels drying over the balcony and forgot to bring them in that night by the the morning they were gone, we were however able to hire towels from hotel 1 where your money is returned once you take them back, the late entertainment was exceptional(especially quiz show night) and you had the choice of the 3 hotels you could watch different shows each night. The Thompsons reps were always very helpful and informative.
Having come home, we are definitely going to go back next year and are taking extra family members as everything you need is literally a stones throw away and I can't express how much we enjoyed and relaxed over the 2 weeks, only 356 days left!!!!!

We have just returned from our 3rd visit to Estival Park, we will be booking again for next year. We travelled as a family with 1 child and a couple, we find the staff friendly and very helpful and the food outstanding.

We have recommended this hotel to many people and next year will be travelling as a group of 8 adults and 2 children, can not fault this hotel in any way

Room Tip: Pool view if you want sun on your balcony in the early morning, golf course view if you want sun in...

Returned from a 7 night holiday here in July and would love to go back again!! This was our first foreign beach holiday as a family and my two kids had been so excited. Infact my daughter had been counting down from the day we booked it (411 days). Thankfully it didn't disappoint. We left rain, thunder & lightening in Bristol and 2 hours later we arrived to sun, sun & more sun.

The hotel was amazing, staff incredibly friendly and very clean. When we checked in our rooms weren't ready but we were able to get our all inclusive wrist bands and leave our luggage in a locked room until our room was ready - we then hit the pool!!

Once we were able to get into our rooms we were very happy we had room 2318, which was on the top floor, overlooking the pool area and you could just the beach in the distance.

We ate in the main restaurant every night and were always able to get a table for 6, if one wasn't available the staff would always find us 2 tables and push them together. The choices of food was great and all tastes were catered for, food was constantly replaced as soon as was needed.

My daughter enjoyed the kids mini disco which ran from 8pm - 8.30pm and then we used to go out of the complex to walk along the shops on the sea front (2 min walk away) we would then come back for the evening entertainment which started at 10pm.

La Pineda beach is a lovely, sandy beach and the water was lovely - I cant remember the last time I actually swam in the sea!!

We caught a bus to Salou which cost just over 2 euros each, again this had a lovely beach but was a lot busier than La Pineda.

We also visited the Aquapolis Water Park & Dolphinarium which is only a 10 minute walk away along the sea front - this is definitely worth a visit.

This holiday exceeded our expectations and nothing could be faulted about this hotel - the range of food & drinks was extensive, hotel staff very polite, very clean hotel and a great atmosphere.

We will definitely come back to this hotel when funds allow!!

Stayed in estival park hotel 1 there was never any spare sun beds even though it said you couldn't reserve beds no body took any notice. On the day we were going home we got picked up at 6.45am and people were waiting to put there towels on beds.
The entertainment staff were excellent. Had to queue for food was good but needed a bit more choice. Was a lot of Spanish Germans and very rude Russians.

Room Tip: Estival park hotel 1 pool view

We spent 2 weeks at this hotel returning in early August and found the establishment itself to one of the poorest we have ever stayed at! Whether this hotel has in the past been well run and deserved a better reputation than this I couldn't say but we found the majority of it's service , food , appearance , atmosphere , and overall quality to be lacking. If you have saved up for a family holiday and are wanting to eat good food , see good entertainment , receive professional service , get a good night sleep , swim in a decent pool , not queue for age's for everything , get a sun bed easily and , most important of all , really enjoy yourself then PLEASE go elsewhere! Plus points are hard to find but my daughter used the hotels wifi which worked Ok and the nearby water park is really good and the hotels spa is nice. Otherwise be warned this place isn't worth your money. If you're not convinced then read some of the other reviews which give 3* or below scores as they are all very accurate. Sorry but we've stayed in better 3* hotels and wonderful 5* hotels and can spot a bad hotel a mile off.

Room Tip: Don't stay here at all!
