“Great for families with young children.”
Reviewed 9 June 2012

Great if you have young children we had our 4 year old daughter with us and she loved it.There were plenty of pools for her to choose from and we tried them all.Make sure you book a room away from the main pool because if you wanted a quiet sleep in the afternoon you had no chance. The actual resort was geared up for kids with bouncy castles and trampolines all free whilst you ate and drank.tThe downside was everything was with chips and we were craving vegetables.Having said that we enjoyed our 11 days here and the apartment was clean and suited our needs.Oh and if you like a large sandy beach there are none only coves but we liked the coves and i went swimming in the sea a few times.

Room Tip: Try T block they have a large pool and small pool but away from the noisy main pool

We are a young family of four that has just enjoyed a week at the Talayot. My wife and I went with our two young children, a 5 year old boy and a 3 year old girl. All in all we had a fantastic week, we are going away to Tunisia at the end of August so this was just a quick week away to get a bit of rest from the terrible British weather. So, where to start?! The apartments themselves are very well kept and incredibley spacious for the money paid, for one of the days the weather was pretty miserable and we spent almost 5 hours in the apartments, but given the size this wasn't a huge fuss and it didn't feel like we were on top of each other at all. The grounds are well maintained and you get the impression that all staff there are very proud of the complex and take great pride in where they work. I only have one gripe with the Talayot, it's not a big gripe and is a bit of a back handed compliment, the complex in itself is too big and all the different play areas for the kids are spread about the place. As our children our too young to be left unsupervised it felt like my wife and I spent the whole day, every day, chasing the kids about from the park to the pool, to the cars, then back to the toy cars and then back to the park again, very frustrating when all you want to do is relax for the week, this may be something to take into consideration if you have younger kids. The resort itself seemed very quiet and because of this the area itself felt and looked quite tired and run down, despite this there were still some great places to eat such as Les Delphines, l'ancora!? And the Chinese resteraunt next to the pizza place with the batman and superman statues out the front was good as well. These 3 places were excellent and the customer service and food were of a lot better standard then other places, yes they were slightly more expensive, by 10 euros or so for the 4 of us, but in our opinion it was worth paying that bit extra over other places for the better quality service and food. I don't think that we would go back again, but that is by no means a reflection of the Talayot, I just felt the resort was very limited in what it had to offer in terms of eating and drinking.

We travelled with Thomson.

OK, lets start with the positives for Talayot Apartments:

1) Talayot staff where very friendly and when asked to help they did so quickly and efficiently!
2) The Talayot grounds where kept clean and tidy and housekeeping was good
3) Clean towels every day, beds changed once a week. They also wiped over the bathroom and swept the floors everyday.
4) Kids pools (the shallow one's) where very good and felt quite safe
5) The Talayot supermarket was fine to use. A little expensive and very little fresh food but good for everyday stuff!
6) Our son went to Thomson kids club twice, he loved it! Be aware that when we where at the Talayot we had to pre register our child for kids club. Pre registering is at 9.30am on the morning you want them to attend but I got there at least 20 mins early, the queues get really long and you might miss out! The Thomson kids club girls where fantastic, exactly as we expected

NOW, let's move onto the negatives:
1) The restaurant food was revolting, everything served with chips and always catered for the lowest common denominator
2) Some of the apartments smelled very strongly of cigarettes. We asked to be moved from our initial allocated apartment number T10
3) Some of the apartments where very dated and in desperate need of refurbishment – T10 was one of them! However we where moved to C8 which had been refurbished and although basic was adequate
4) There was constant blearing music coming from the main pool area. Mixed with the music from the restaurant you did feel that you where going slightly mad sometimes. Also depending where your apartment is situated you may also have to listen to music all day even if you are inside trying to rest
5) The Spanish entertainment lady was very loud at all times of the day– she loved her microphone!
6) In our opinion the sofa beds in the apartments where truly dreadful, thin foam mattress meant for sitting on NOT for sleeping. My husband 6'3 was far to tall to fit on the sofa bed. Our children slept in the bedroom so we had 10 nights of very poor, uncomfortable sleep
7) The larger pools are very deep in places (over 2 meters) and in the main pool the edges are rounded so it's very hard to get out (if you don't use the steps)
8) Some of the ground floor apartments have no patio walls around them (T block again) so kids can run straight out the patio doors and directly down to the pool area....can't take your eye off the little ones for a moment
9) And finally – the Talayot restaurant tried to charge me 1Euro 50cents for a cup of milk....I rest my case!

Calan Forcat (Talayot local area)
1) DREADFUL, DREADFUL, DREADFUL! Never seen anything like it in my life. Think the worst parts of the English seaside resort and double it!
2) The worst food I have ever tasted in most of the eateries
3) One shining light was L'Ancora restaurant (very close to Talayot apartments). Great service, food and house wine!

Beaches (local to Talayot)
1) Pirate Cove was great and a easy walking distance from the Talayot. But beware to hire 2 sunbeds and a parasol was 15Euros a day....there is also a nice restaurant at the cove which serves very good food and wine – cocktails are fab as well!

Buses
1) Easy to use and get around the local area. There is a bus stop a couple of meters from the outside of the Talayot. Citadella was only a 20min bus ride away and is a nice place to visit. You don't have to pay for kids under 4 years old (we did for four days until we realised...DOH)

Room Tip: make sure you get a room that's been refurbished

We have just come back from a week at The Talayot apartments with a 6 year old and a 4 year old and we all had a great time. The staff at the accommodation are very helpful and friendly and the all areas are kept spotlessly clean. There's plenty to keep the children happy on site, 6 pools, go-karts, crazy golf, playarea, mini waterpark, sand pit etc. There's a Spar just across the road which was very handy. There's entertainment in the evenings but nothing too late to too noisy. If you want to explore further, it's worth catching the bus to the old capital Citudella, the cathedral is beautiful and the harbour is very pretty but pricey if you want to eat around there (best finding a back street tapas bar or just buy lunch from the bakers). Back in Cala Forcat, the recession has hit with lots of bars and resturants closed down but those that remain open are cheap (not in a bad way) and friendly. Most restaurants have children in mind with play areas which they loved. Please ignore the comments that it's tacky, it isn't, it's just great for children to play whilst the grown ups can finish their sangria in peace!

Room Tip: T Block is across a quiet road away from the main pools so is very peaceful. It does have it's...

From the 16th till the 30th of may we had one of our best holidays ever here.
We are a family of four with two young children who booked these apartments after reading some very positive reviews on here and let me tell you they were very very true!
Rooms were fab with ample facilities: 6 swimming pools although our kids wanted the main big pool all the time: Nice bar area with great value for money meals: On walking around the complex there is something for children to do at every turn: very clean and well maintained complex. The entertainment is ok its what you always get when you go away these days the mini disco was great(big hello to loopy lilly the entertainer what a lovely women x)
We were allocated apartment k5 where our terrace over looked the crazy golf course, great laugh watching people play whilst sipping a glass or two of local wine, the bars and restaurants are only a short stroll away most with bouncy castles, our little girl loved the bar with the giant whale bouncy castle you cant miss it its huge!
All in all we very strongly recommend the talayot and as many others have wrote on here we are booking for next year asap!

We booked a late deal to the Talayot. It was a steal of a deal that was too good to turn down. We knew it was a ‘family’ hotel but thought we would just use it as a base and head to one of the beaches.

BUT BUT BUT…….

To our amazement we stayed around the hotel complex as it’s got quieter pools and places to chill out away from the noise and mayhem of the main pool. There are 6 pools – and 2 of them were quiet, but we usually spent the day at the pool beside the Spa supermarket, which was soo quiet, it was like being in another hotel.

We had an apartment in H block – we didn’t request it, like I said it was a very late booking, so just took what we got. H block, even tho it’s close to the pool snack bar and bikes was quiet and we didn’t get any noise. It’s also got a cut through to the main road, which saves having to go via reception and noise and children and games.

The apartment itself was spotless…! OK it’s not art deco furniture or 5* comforts, but it was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Maid’s came in every day to mop around and leave clean towels. TV had several UK channels, which was a nice surprise too.

We didn’t stay in the hotel in the evening, mainly because everything is geared toward children and rather tacky.

We ate most nights in L’ancora – food price actually came down while we there. The 3 course special started at E10 and was E8 when we left. We also got a voucher every night when we left for a free bottle of wine on our next visit… So basically we were getting a quality 3 course meal and wine and leaving E20 which included a tip…!

We visited Bar61 (Irish Bar) which was OK but the entertainment was ran by a guy who was rather ‘Benidormish…’.

Jimmy’s was too quiet and staff not overly friendly. The entertainment kept getting cancelled.

We drank mainly in Frankie’s – excellent.. Friendly staff, and even though the karaoke/bingo girl is a bit new and amateurish, it was the only place which had any life and staff extremely friendly. What we liked about here was that the locals drank in here too.

So – would I go back to the Talayot without children, as a couple – YES, but I would request S or T or H block as they were quiet.

Great all round – and as it’s Thomson only, excellent late deals, cheaper than staying at home.

we was in E block this time and our room led straight out to a small splash pool with slides and waterfalls in...was the best block we've stayed in yet!!!
this was the first time we jumped on a bus to Cuitidella (not sure if thats spelt wright!!)...it was amazing!! we had the most amazing dinner on the harbour!! it was so beautiful i would definately go back there on our next visit to talayot!!!
