“Top spot for Alicante climbers”
Reviewed 17 February 2014

We’re back again! Like a youth hostel that’s full of friendly climbing minded people, The Orange House is the best place for Alicante climbing. Swop the days stories of your adventure with other climbers of all abilities, get serenaded by Serin at breakfast by the cool outdoor pool, or ask for advice and suggestions from the other climbers and the very friendly staff. AND they have their own orange and lemon trees!

Our room was Tower – with its own bathroom, sun terrace, and spectacular views of the Puig – awesome! We stayed here for a week of adventure, climbing on the sea-cliffs, and big days out on the Puig and the Bernia Ridge. Early starts needed for the last two and The Orange House is excellently placed for both. Also great for birdwatching – check out El Hondo, and the Griffon Vultures at Alcoy.

See you next year Oranges!

Stayed here for a 4 night climbing trip around the area. Absolutely loved this place as a hangout for climbers, being able to swap stories and local current information on routes. Wish we could have stayed longer as there is SO much climbing around its just silly.
The honesty bar (best kind of bar) is a nice touch and shows just how relaxed and trusting the owners and staff are and really sets the scene for what kind of experience you are going to have - a chilled out one.
As we were arriving late on the first night we were given great instructions on how to get there and even a handwritten note as to where our room was. Its this kind of personal service that really sets the place apart from a normal 'hotel'. Then again, does any other hotel have its own bouldering room?
Just one complaint that the shower in our room wasn't working. Not much of an issue as there were others available.
Special thanks to Craig (one of the volunteer staff) who gave us great info and even lent us his guidebook for 3 days! Cheers mate.

Will definitely be recommending it to my climbing friends!

Room Tip: stayed in the Orange room. when we were there it was fine, but I can imagine it is a bit close to th...

Thank you so much for the great review. They mean so much to us when people say we are doing the right thing.
I am so sorry you did not have hot water in "Orange", the shower in that room is from a gas bottle which is located outside. All the showers should have a note on them that explains that and hopefully staff are around to change bottles etc.
Glad you like the "honesty" bar, we do say we will stop it one year, but after 10 years maybe it will have to stay!

I've stayed here a few times before and everytine I come back it just gets better, the new opened out kitchen is much better , and the lounge is better than ever and a nice new log burner :-) Sam and Rich are always a pleasure to deal with and are very helpful. I just couldent think of a nice place to go enjoy some sun, sea (maybe later In the year) and most importantly climbing :-)

We stayed at The Orange House for 10 days over Christmas and had a fantastic holiday. The staff and volunteers (Oranges) were so friendly, helpful and welcoming and it was great to spend time with them and like-minded climbers and walkers. We were in the Strawberry Room (double en-suite) which was very comfortable with a large shower-room. The communal areas - kitchen, dining area, bar area are basic but good to use. There’s plenty of parking outside. Finestrat is only a short walk away, it’s very pretty and has a couple of small shops for bread etc. and some bars and restaurants. There’s plenty of large supermarkets only 5 minutes’ drive away for stocking up. The sports climbing in this area is plentiful, short drives and enough to keep you going for months!

Room Tip: The Strawberry Room is away from the communal areas, lots of storage, comfortable with a large showe...

I'm just back from an extended weekends stay at the Orange house and cant say enough nice things about the place and the people. Now don't get me wrong if you're looking for 5 star living this isn't the place to go but if you're after excellent value for money, friendly climbing minded people all in a great location then this is THE PLACE!

I was travelling alone so keen to find climbing partners which I did for everyday of my stay through the house. This combined with unique local knowledge supplied by the owners meant the holiday was over far too quickly. If you are going to stay you'd best be a dog lover (I am) as there are several friendly pets living there too. For me this just added to the relaxed nature of the house making it feel more like a home from home than a holiday.

Thanks for a great stay, in the words of Arnie- i'll be back.

15 of us stayed at The Orange House for a week and had a wonderful time. The house was lovely, practical and full of charm and the kids had a fab time in the pool. We had stunning views of the mountains and were close to all amenities. Dan was a great help to us whilst there, so thank you to him and Sam and Rich for allowing us to take over the villa for a week. We would definately come back.

The Orange House was unbelievably roomy and in beautiful surroundings. The rooms were great, plenty of books to read and a box of toys and bits for the little ones downstairs. Sky TV in the main living room. Any questions we had were answered by Dan. The pool was clean and there were plenty of chairs, tables etc both inside and out. There were four of the most amazing dogs have ever seen and I am still missing them. I walked to the small village every day but a car definitely needed if one wanted to venture further afield. Gorgeous place.
