“Good hotel, location could be better”
Reviewed 14 July 2014 via mobile

We stayed in an evolution suite on the third floor. Nice view over the Mesopotamian plains.

Two spacious rooms: one for sitting, one for sleeping. Very good matresses and very good shower. Two toilets.

Breakfast buffet is ok.

Staff speaks little English.

Very good wifi signal.

Powercuts (a few seconds every half hour during the afternoon) throughout parts of the city including this hotel.

Room was not as clean as you would expect.

Location is poor: situated in a somewhat dirty urban area, approximately 3,5 km from the old city center.

Just about 4 stars because of the price and the level of comfort.

The hotel is in a new neighbourhood of Mardin, you can see it on a hilltop while approaching the city from the airport. In order to get to the old town you need a rented ca ror a taxi , which is not a big deal.
The staff was friendlly and full of goodwill. The latter was needed a lot in order to compensate on their Englis knowledge - it varies from zero up to poor. The room I had was clean and neat. Unfortunately the fridge did not work, and I had to complain three times before they fixed it, partly due toe language issues. There were several short blackouts in the late afternoon/evening every thirty minutes, or so. The air conditioner didn't work, so I had to ask to fix it. That was not an easy task either, as the so-called Customer Hotline answered only after a few attempts.
The breakfast buffet was okay from the choice point of view. The quality was poor, though: Some of the bread types was dry, the sliced yellow cheese was sweating, while the ham had an unpleasant colour and its edges were curled, the green pepper (paprika) was wrinkled - all signs of being anything but fresh.
All these hick-ups should not happen with a hotel that is related to the Hilton brand. Think twice before booking!

Clean, neat and spacious. Has everything you need after a tiring city tour. Towels, linens, room, everything clean and new. Our room was below the reception so had no view-upper level rooms had a better view-but we were at the hotel only for one night so it didn' t matter much.

Rooms are big, very clean and comfortable. The staff and the overall service is excellent. I have earlier stayed at Hilton Garden Inn hotels in different places, they were all good, but I higly recommend Garden ınn Mardin to all. I am extremely satisfied.

- The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating – from the front desk to the IT guy. Turkish, Arabic, Kurdish were widely used while several hotel personnel also spoke English. The Front Office Manager, Murat, was absolutely invaluable in us enjoying our stay. He was fluent in English and made several suggestions that we enjoyed.
- Breakfast was a nice buffet
- Restaurant and bar prices were reasonable and staff was terrific. 23TL for a mixed drink, whereas in Ankara we paid 40 TL for the same mixed drink at the Ankara Hilton.
- The property is two years old, and not located in the downtown or old-town areas; well-appointed and about 3 miles from the “old town” shopping area, Mardin Museum and restaurants – an easy taxi ride – 15TL.
- Typical wait time for a taxi was about 10 min and even though we called the front desk in advance, hotel staff would not call for taxi in advance until you came downstairs and showed up in front lobby.
- It has all the services of Hilton: indoor pool, a small fitness room, business center, silver shop, snack shop, etc. The restaurant has a nice view. The rooms are very nice and clean; you can adjust your bed from soft to firm.
- We experienced 6 power failures in 2 days, lasting about 1 minute each time
- One front desk staff member suggested we use one particular taxi driver to take us to the Museum, the monastery and other sights; unfortunately, the driver ended up not speaking any English. We paid 150TL for the day; however, with the exception of having him wait at the Monastery, it probably would have been less expensive/ easier to take separate taxis; it did simplify our lives and he was pleasant!
- If sight-seeing, pre-plan your trip so you know what you want to look at. Hotel staff were very nice, but are not equipped to help you plan your day-trips.
- Hotel rooms have only semi-individual air conditioning/heating controls. You could make it warmer but couldn’t individually cool the room. Even with our unit off and the window open (in December), the room was rather warm.
- Overall, very nice hotel stay…we would return.

Room Tip: Back of the hotel; not street-side. To cool the room you will have to open a window, and you don...
