We had no plans - "lets find something once we are in the area". So glad we did this...
A magnificent building, fantastic location, amazing staff, food that looks like art and blows your mind with all the contrasting/complimenting flavours and textures.

Not cheap, but well worth it - especially for couples.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room - and you will get views of the manicured gardens and the river.

This boutique chateau hotel is set on a rocky outcrop above a large river. It's a stunning property. The bedroom we had was no. 11; a second floor looking out over the river. The room was traditionally furnished with a restored antique four-poster bed. It was tastefully furnished in keeping with the age and character of the property. There were Hermes toiletries in the bathroom and the room was air conditioned. The garden is very pleasant and attracts some wonderful birdlife although the pool is a little bit of a walk from the main building. The food is excellent - the pre dinner amuse bouches are particularly good. The staff are extremely attentive and helpful. This is how Relais & Chateau hotels should be and it deserves it's high Tripadvisor ranking. I recommend highly.

Room Tip: First floor rooms look to have very large windows and great floor to ceiling heights. Personally I'd opt for a room with a river view but the garden view is probably equally nice.

Wonderful, romantic, exquisite, delicious, luxurious, hotel. Before I die, I WILL return again. The restaurant serves some of the best food I have ever eaten and the selection of deserts are devine. Be sure to visit the swimming pool which is a real oasis, although a short walk from the main hotel. We were glad that they still offered waiter service

Perched on the banks of the Dordogne surrounded by park like forests and a garden, with a swimming pool and a tennis court. The staffs are multilingual, efficient and accommodate all the guests needs. The view from the upper floor rooms is enchanting. The chateau has a Michelin starred restaurant serving up the best dinner around the area (we tried many). The selection is not extensive but every dish is truly delicious. Breakfast (continental plus eggs to order) and dinner can be taken on the patio, inside dinning room or on the front porch. The choice is entirely up to the guest. A perfect location to see towns in the Dordogne and the staff can provide excellent advice in advance or on site. Would definitely return. Bedding can be improved and upgrade of the plumbing is needed but all in all, a fantastic place to stay.

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper floor or the tower.

Perched high above the Dordogne River rests this beautiful white chateau. It's been sitting there for about 600 years but surely has never been as refined as it is now. It features one of the most beautiful dining rooms we have ever seen, but we were fortunate enough to catch perfect weather so we could dine out on the terrace over the river. Cuisine and service were top notch. Owner Stephanie "makes the rounds" during dinner to chat with the guests and when we mentioned our desire to just travel the back roads and see the countryside and small villages, she laid out an excellent driving tour for us which started at the Moulin Fortifie de Cougnaguet, a mill that's been grinding away since the 14th century. The old guide showed us with pride how the mill still worked and then took us up to the stone caretakers house for a little nip and some cracked walnuts. A classic chap showing obvious pride in this classic mill. Not to be missed, though many do since we were the only ones there for about a half hour tour. Stephanie was definitely right about the old mill. Thanks!

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the river.
