“Such charm and character”
Reviewed 23 September 2012

A fantastic hotel located in the centre of the picturesque town of Meyrueis. The rooms were spacious with views of the river that runs through the town and the owners also run a restuarant where you can dine by the river and enjoy the produce of the region. A most delightful stay was enjoyed.and it is definitely down as a place to revisit.

we recently stayed here for 3 nights in September - on arrival we were greeted by a member of staff who showed us to our room and then practically disappeared. And that appeared to often be the case here. We'd chosen it as the tourist booklet recommended the Hotel restaurant however, on arrival we were told the restaurant wasn't open. It quickly became clear that this hotel was linked to the nearby Sully Hotel. And basically the staff were running from one hotel to the other. Whilst we admired their hard work ethic (they truly did work their socks off in the very busy Sully Hotel restaurant) their customers suffered a lack of care, attention and service. So the overall effect is one of disappointment.

The Hotel reception is pretty impressive with exceptionally old wood flooring that gleams proudly. The breakfast room, bar area (which no one used again no staff) and dining room have all been decorated tastefully. However its a very different story with the rooms. Ours was truly ugly with a bathroom door that didn't fit the frame and didn't close. Dark blue woodwork and red wallpaper that had seen better days and a burgundy tiled bathroom with no shower. Another very off-putting thing was the smell of stale urine coming from the first floor toilets. Its really sad to write this as its obviously a good location, a large impressive building but its massively let down by the decor and condition of the rooms and lack of staff.

Room Tip: lots of stairs in this hotel and no lift

I think we were the only people staying here, which could have been off putting as we had to use radio contact to get into our room.
However it lead to a peaceful and restful stay.
The hotel was not fully open with no restaurant service and breakfast was at the Hotel Sully. Again though we could see the potential this place has for a lovely summer stay.
Our room was lovely, clean and nice furniture, we opened the windows to a view of the main street and the babbling stream.
Definately stay for a break in the summer and if we are in the area again, we will go back.
