Room, grounds and common rooms were beautifully done and what you might imagine of an elegant 18th century French Chateau. Had two wonderful dinners in a romantic setting. Would most certainly highly recommend to anyone traveling in the Loire Valley.

After living in France for 9-months, we finally used our Smartbox voucher for a one-night stay in a chateau. With an endless selection of beautiful places to stay throughout the country, it was a difficult task. We finally decided on Chateau des Briottieres based on Tripadvisor reviews and a good website (often a good sign!).

After a day of driving through the spectacular Loire Valley, we arrived at Chateau des Briottieres in the late afternoon. It was a little tricky to find initially, with the GPS not taking us to it's front entrance. Note- ask the accommodation for directions and if you can't rely on your GPS.

The drive leading up to the chateau was like something out of a dream. It has a beautiful driveway lined with trees. It has a pond, stables and a tiny old church. The chateau itself is very impressive.

With formal reception process or area, we instantly felt welcome and at home. And that is the experience that the owners hope to give their guests. We were welcomed by a wonderful man who told us that we had the entire house to ourselves for that night as no other guests were expected to arrive. Imagine our surprise at our luck! This however changed with some last minute arrivals, but this being such a large space, you still feel the privacy.

We were escorted to our room, up a giant staircase with two large stags mounted on the walls looking back at you. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and true to the aesthetic of the building. You don't feel like you're in a contemporary design hotel, but rather in a beautiful chateau. The wallpaper and ornate designs transport you back to another time. In saying this however, the rooms are equipped with all the modern amenities one could ask for, including a his and her sink, a bathtub, shower and bathrobes. And with large windows looking out onto the grounds behind the chateau, it is a delight to relax in the bathtub.

We enjoyed a breakfast and a 3-course dinner at the chateau. And both meals were well made, catering to the needs of a vegetarian (myself) and a fussy eater (my fiance). Their selection of wines of the region were particularly impressive. The breakfast in particular was a delicious spread.

We met the owner of the chateau during dinner and he delighted us with stories of his childhood in this chateau, which was his family home. He also told shared with us his journey of converting this chateau into the accommodation it is today. This personal touch of engaging with the guests just made our experience that extra bit special. He told us of their garden and pool area, which he took great pride in. We had a chance to explore this the following day and it was truly an enchanting large garden.

I would recommend this place to a friend visiting the Loire Valley region in a heartbeat. It is relaxing, beautiful and full of character.

We were very impressed and pleased with our choice, from the moment we drove up the path leading to the manor house. A delightful setting and beautiful grounds with majestic trees, chairs dotted around the gardens to allow guests to fully appreciate the idyllic spot, a clean heated swimming-pool hidden away. We were introduced to the luxurious lounges and taken to our room in the Fruitier building by the proprietor. Very comfortable and tastefully furnished lounge and bedroom. We had a very pleasant evening, having taken a stroll through the gardens, wooded area and having had the chance to relax in the magnificent lounge of the manor house. Our only wish would have been to be offered a cool drink on arrival on this hot August afternoon. We thought breakfast was not good value, but I suppose you pay for the beautiful dining-room... We would definitely recommend this character B&B for a special night away.

Room Tip: Comfortable room in the Fruitier

We thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful Chateau -- the setting, building, grounds, dinners and activities were simply splendid. We would highly recommend it to others, even though it is pricey. And the owner was lovely and charming.

Our only disappointment was not being able to organize horse riding (as advertised). But the pool, trampoline, badminton, ping pong, grounds etc were fantastic. A place we would love to revisit.

We stayed at Briottieres for one night on the way to ile de re. It was the perfect distance from Calais and then on to Ile de re the next morning.

It was wonderful to return again to stay with Francois and Hedwige de Valbray and their family, who were so welcoming once again. The chateau was as beautiful as the last time but the rooms and decoration had been updated yet again and gave this beautiful and classic building a modern feel. Candles at night were a lovely touch and obviously a huge amount of love and care went into making our stay this special.

Francois and Hedwige were charming and we had fascinating chats with the other guests at pre-dinner drinks, which were all included! The dinner menu was decided by Hedwige and it was absolutely delicious, with large portions, as was the wine - what a wonderful surprise and we could not have chosen better if we had tried. We all ate at our own tables in the huge traditional dining room which really buzzed with chat from all the guests.

We really loved the happy family atmosphere but also being part of smart, grand chateau life. We had a stylish comfy room with nice bathrooms and lovely beauty products,

The boys particularly loved all the activities, including a gorgeous pool and pool area, tennis court and full size billiards table.

It was the perfect start to our holiday and we look forward to the next chance to visit.

Room Tip: Our room was a perfect family room with nice double room for us parents and room next door with bunk...

We spend 2 nights in this beautiful castle,in the middle of a marvelous setting ,on the contryside.
Upon arrival we were welcomed by the owner who brought us to our room;the room is beautifully decorated, with a marvellous view on the property. We remained for dinner, the dining room is perfectly set, with romantic candles lit all over the place. We were treated with a glass of "Cremant de Loire", a local kind of champagne, before having dinner.
Breakfast was another fantastic surprise! Devine bakery, very varied buffet, also served with kindness and elegance! The gardens and lands spread in front of our eyes revealed themselves during the day, every spot is taken care of with love and carefulness.
We cannot wait to come back to this enchanting Chateau! Thanks to the kind owners!

This was a dream come true. We arrived a little later than we had anticipated. After driving up the idillic drive through the Park a l'anglaise to the stables, we hurried to check in as dinner was to be served in the ten minutes. We were welcomed by Francois de Valbray who is the charming kind and friendly owner of Chateau des Briottieres who kindly upgraded us to the Chambre Verte in the chateau.
Francois gracefully escorted us to our room, once we entered the beauty of the room was sensational with pure french elegance and charm thankfully no “boutique” in site. The piece de resistance was the sublime bathroom with an original cast iron roll top bath where you could sit and surveil the 56 acres of Parkland.
Francois invited us for an aperitif under the Wisteria on the South west side of the chateau du capture the beautiful evening. Whilst falling in love with the local "champagne" Cremant de Loire which is made by the Valbray Family we were offered a personal tour of the grounds and rooms.
This is a magical place were you can experience real french rural elegance without a hint of pretense.

We were summoned to the dinning room by Madame's bell. The candle lit dinning room had a warm inviting atmosphere.
The food at the Briottiers is "chateau food" not modern gastronomy , which was quite a relieve as the last thing i wanted was to feel unrelaxed on our first night on holiday. Most importantly regional wine, Francois recommended his last Chateau Langlois Veille Vignes Saumur which was a real treat. The evenings menu was a mint and cucumber iced cold soup which was delicious and refreshing, followed by tarragon roast free range chicken with seasonal provencal veg and buttery rice which was superb.
Dessert was a raspberry macaroon filled with a raspberry sorbet. We then retired back to the garden to enjoy the sunset and coffee.

Before retreating to our room we found our way to honesty bar were we joined Francois for a large armagnac. At this point we felt like we were with close friends and Francois let us into the history of the chateau which was very interesting.
We slept incredibly well and enjoyed every moment especially relaxing in the bath tub. Breakfast was a pure delight, a continental feast. which is far more enjoyable that our english cooked breakfasts. Gorgeous jams, breads, cakes etc....
Unfortunately we had only booked the one night but it was a fantastic experience and we will be returning next year hopefully for two nights. Thank you again for the amazing hospitality and personal welcome Francois ! Ben and Michael, Bath, England
