“Beautiful Location”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

I have to say that this was one of the only places I have ever stayed that looks better in reality than on the website. The location is truly stunning. We stayed in one of the bay-view rooms and it was very comfortable but we spent most of our time outside. The place seems well managed and the staff were very friendly and competent. (There will always be moments of miscommunication with many different accents involved.) It is not the best beach you will ever see but it is sheltered and therefore safer than most other beaches in Ghana, or so I am told. The food was really good with plenty of options for breakfast. It would be better if they had a few staples on the menu for snacks, especially for times when you do not feel like full meal. (Some of the things that they brought out on the Sunday bbq could easily be replicated during the week - french fried, spring rolls, samosas, fruit salad, etc.)

Wow. This is a top-notch hotel with all the amenities. Great staff, delicious food, wonderful location, huge rooms. If you can afford it, go for it. The staff spent 4 hours one morning trying to get all the seaweed cleaned up from the beach AND the ocean (using a net to collect a huge patch of it right off the swim beach). They set up a private beachfront table for us on our anniversary, which was a great touch. Beautiful place.

It took us just 4 hours and fifteen minutes from Accra! We were in the middle of a very green African Rain Forest, the ocean looks so beautiful from a private Bay !
A good feeling of security, privacy, harmony, …
Just want to go more often and discover the new design chalets and enjoy again the Chef's great cuisine !
This is one my best experience in West Africa !

Room Tip: Rooms on the island are very beautiful and well designed

Nice and friendly, down to earth style hotel close to Axim. Super bad road at the moment (is under construction) and signs with directions could be better. Nice simple rooms with ok beds. Clean and spacious. Best is if you can get the private island house! Beautiful beach and great swimming in the safe bay (not the normal undercurrent). Interesting menus which changed daily. Possibility to have a romantic dinner at a table down by the beach, super nice!

The lodge is a good bargain for the price.clearly to have the owner/manager in situ makes all the diference,as the place is properly run, and problems are fixed within hours.
Friendly staff ,decent meals, very good rooms in the island, may be the only problem is that the place is over occupied in week- ends, another measure of its success.
For our group it was the best place to stay in Ghana, and the prices were pretty competitive.

Room Tip: Island rooms

We drove here from Abidjan for a long weekend. The private beach is very picturesque, though the water in the cove was not the cleanest when we were there. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Food is good, and service is friendly though slow. The entrance to our room suite was right next to a family's entrance, and they spent time congregating and talking loudly right outside--likely not a problem on the private island or the more private oceanfront rooms. One of the better beach resorts in the area overall.

We traveled to the Lou Moon Lodge in January of 2014 and found it to be one of the best vacations we have taken as a family. It is definitely recommended to travel by air from Accra to Takoradi - we used Antrak air - otherwise you will spend b/w 5 and 9 hours driving and the cost of the air travel is about the same as by road.

We have 3 children-5 yrs and under, which can add a level of complexity to vacationing, but the Lou Moon staff were flexible and proactive to our needs. My favorite part was no checking in after the travel, just straight to the room and relax.

We stayed in the family suite on the island, and while I did not see the other rooms, staying on a private island with only one other cabana looking over the bay can't be beat. The swimming was perfect for the small guys, with small waves and a floating dock off the beach. My wife and I were able to sit and chat while the kids played without fear of them being swept out to sea. They also had kayaks and other beach toys for use. There was a a large lawn with soccer balls and a swing as well as games and blocks for the kids in the restaurant.

The food was excellent and I'm a bit picky in that regard. Lobster, ceviche, shrimp in champagne sauce, duck, the list goes on. We are not big desert people, but their white chocolate mouse may be the best desert I have ever had...please get 1 per for each member of your party or you will be left wanting.

The only thing I would recommend would be to pre-identify babysitters for parents who need a break. With that said, they did find someone so we could have dinner out. Also, the sausages for breakfast were not good, they should just be taken out of the mix. Otherwise we were very pleased.

Tony and the team were great and I will be returning next year

Room Tip: The Island rooms were great, but I am sure they are all fine
