Suricate Kalahari Tented Lodge
Ranked #2 of 8 Mariental B&B and Inns
Reviewed 1 April 2014

We may be slightly biased because we were the only guests here for two nights in a row. The rooms are a little run down but that just adds to the charm of the place. The game drive was the best we have done - not so much for the animals (it's a relatively small reserve and you won't see the big 5 here) but for the proximity to the game and the enthusiasm of our guide, Chamberlain. Service was good, and the desert was everything we had hoped - spectacular sunsets, amazing stars and a sense of isolation that was hard to beat.

Room Tip: Room 6 has its own pool and is furthest from the main lodge. Recommended.

Compared to other Leading Lodges in Namibia the Suricate is one of the nicest, with exception of the Le Mirage maybe.
Location perfect, rooms a tiny bit run down but lovely otherwise, nice pool, good food and very friendly, highly professional staff. All in all a recommendable place.

Our stay at Suricate was mindblowing, we spend a whole day out in the most beautiful game reserve Namibia had to offer to my opinion!
The game drive we did was so much fun, I guess we saw everything the Kalahari has to offer within a few hours.
From the moment you leave the lodge the experience you get every time you cross one of the dunes is just great,
on the one side you see a large group of zebra, once over the hill a giraffe family!
We saw the lions, leopards and a whole bunch of suricates !!
Back at the lodge we loved sleeping in the tents with a view over what seemed to be a big salt pan!
There we saw a gnu herd run and the dust flying up behind them, there is no better way to wake up in the morning!
The meals were served by a very friendly staff and with view over the pan, the lodge has a nice relaxing feel to when the sun sets it is the perfect place for what they call a "sundowner drink" in Namibna.
We also joined the bushmen walk the next morning, a real interesting experience, sadly enough there was no more time to do a quadbike tour on the reserve.
But Suricate is on my list to visit next time we're back in Namibia!

This is marketed as a 4 star lodge and makes a mockery of the NAM star rating system. It's dilapidated and has had less than 50c spent on maintenance there in the last 5 years. The whole place is tired, unloved and is best left off of your itinerary. This was the second lodge that we stayed at in this chain (Leading Lodges of Africa) and both suffered from what seems to be disinterested management content to let these lodges fall into disrepair. Suricate is unloved, untidy and the best thing to do would be to demolish it.
