We chose this hotel because we thought it to be good value for all an inclusive and we knew exactly where it was located. The reviews were positive reading, we liked the comments on how clean the hotel was.
We asked for a high floor with a good view and we got it, the room was very good and clean, we found the beds comfortable and the sheets were changed regularly, the bathroom well equipped, a flat screen TV that had a USB port so we were able to watch pre recorded films that we brought with us. The air conditioning worked well but was noisy.
Yes the staff were excellent, nothing too much trouble, drinks were of premium quality although we didn't over indulge but some did and you could hear them returning to their rooms at night.
Entertainment was surprisingly very good, sunbeds were always available but the best positions had towels on early in the morning, the pools were well set out and the children's entertainment was a laugh from what we could hear.
We had a car for twelve days so got about all over the island as the hotel has no beach nearby, this meant giving up our lunch on most days but a packed lunch was available, sandwiches and fruit and a soft drink. To be honest we didn't mind missing lunch, we tried it a number of times but it was poor, more like a three star hotel on all inclusive for the masses, but the birds liked it and helped themselves whenever possible.
The dining room was well presented, the food was good, a few times very good but never excellent as we have experienced in other hotels, also I don't agree with standing in line for roast beef, pork or duck etc that could be fourteen persons long.
So would we return? Maybe as it was good value.

We have just returned from a very enjoyable week at this hotel. The hotel setting and it's grounds were beautiful with an abundance of flowers. The rooms were good, very clean, well planned and with a large bathroom. There was also a constant supply of hot water which in some hotels we have found lacking. The balcony was large with table and chairs and ours had afternoon and evening sun which we really enjoyed. Our room - 410 - had an excellent view of the sea and mountains. The room was kept pristine throughout our stay as was the rest of the hotel.
The food and wine were of a very good standard. The wine we chose every evening on all inclusive was one we buy at home at £8.50 a bottle. There was a wide choice of all alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks available throughout the day. All the meals were buffets. Breakfast and Dinner were served in a formal diningroom with both inside and outside tables. There was waiter service for drinks at both meals. Lunch was served in another informal dining room in the grounds near the pools. Here you served yourself with a selection of drinks including wine, beer soft drinks and coffee. At all meals there was food being freshly cooked as well as a vast selection of meals on the buffet bars. There was always an excellent salad and fruit selection. I am a quite picky eater and was always able to find a good meal. The freshly cooked fish and meat was of excellent quality and there was plenty of choice for children too.
There are 4 pools in total at the hotel, all separated by beautiful gardens giving the impression of a much smaller hotel. There are plenty of sunbeds by the pool and around the grounds - many in small groups of 6 or 10 if you don't want to be in the thick of things. The only downside, as in many hotels is some people insist on putting towels on them early in the morning and not using them until late afternoon. The hotel has a policy of no towels out until 9 am but this was not adhered to by many guests.
The public areas in the hotel were clean, stylish, light and airy. There was a lower public room which was ideal if you wanted to be cooler. There was a lovely theatre that had a show on each evening and there was also easy listening live music on in the bar each evening. During the day there was an abundance of activities that you could take part in like archery, shooting yoga and pilates to name but a few You could be active all day or just relax in the sun. The hotel also had an excellent spa.
We found the location of the hotel vey good because we wanted a relaxing break. There was a lovely marina nearby with a small selection of very good shops and restaurants. The only downside for some people was there was quite a steep incline down to the marina. There is also a coastal walk of about 30 minutes to a much bigger resort Puerto Del Carmen which we enjoyed very much. For those less keen on walking there is a water taxi which will take you there from the marina or a free shuttle bus from the hotel. My husband went deep sea fishing from the local marina which was very reasonable. There is also a little market there too in Tuesdays and Fridays.
The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful. The staff in reception, the restaurants and the bars speak very good English. The cleaners tend not to speak much English.
We definitely got the holiday we went for - a quiet relaxing break with good food and drink and plenty to do if we chose to. We thought the holiday was excellent value for money and we shall certainly return in the future. In fact nearly everyone we spoke to was making a return visit - one couple their 13th. Surely this tells a story!

Room Tip: The higher floors give you a much better view and there are lifts to get you up there. We were in 41...

This hotel and all its staff , services etc were absolutely excellent. I have reduced mobility and a specific room request was emailed prior to the holiday which was quickly acknowledged and upon arrival we were delighted with allocated room (148) close to restaurants and pools. The check in procedure was fast and without fuss.;
The food choice was excellent, catering for all needs.
The pools were very good and never crowded, and loungers were plentiful.
This is a resort hotel where you can enjoyed all the facilities without leaving the site, although there are options for tours.
The entertainment was , again excellent mostly with professional acts.every evening.
We are well travelled , and have experienced with all inclusive resort , and the Costa Calero deserves .its place amongst the best.
We will be back !

Room Tip: Pass any request to the hotel by email, in advance

Just returned from our 2nd stay at Costa Calero. Most things were as good as last year, even got same room as requested. Staff could not be faulted for their friendliness and efficiency, same problem with people reserving the sun beds the evening before, pools still a bit cool, but solar heating to be fitted by Summer 2015. Entertainment was pretty good too. All inclusive drinks package was excellent as was last year, the only thing that let it down for us this year was the poor quality and variety of food, which really needs to be addressed, as we heard other guests complaining about this too. All in all, though, was a lovely holiday. Would recommend hiring a car and seeing the sights of the island and would also recommend the Submarine Safari, which leaves from the marina.

Room Tip: Rooms on 4th and 5th floors with sea view are best

After staying here many dozens of times over the past 10 years, I am more than happy to say it is still the best hotel. From the cleaners too the director everyone member of the team is fantastic. The location is perfect.
If you don't like this hotel I suggest it's you who has the problem.

I'm in the middle of a 2 week stay here at Hotel Costa Calero. It's lovely! The reception staff are friendly and have been helpful. I can honestly say that all the staff, housekeeping, bar and restaurant work really hard and all except 2 of them provide service with a smile and are really friendly.

Rooms are spacious, lots of storage and are cleaned immaculately every day. Bed was a little hard but we asked for a mattress topper and one was put on straight away. It is much better.

Food- plenty to choose from at breakfast lunch and dinner. Chefs cook a number of things fresh for you while you wait. Food has always been hot enough and the fish and meats are really tasty.

Drinks- good quality wines available on the list at no cost for all inclusive. Husband says the bottled beer is better than the draft beer. Spirits all all branded. Fresh coffee available at breakfast but after that it's from a machine. It's ok but not great.

Pools and grounds- 3 huge pools. They are a little cold but that's ok. The grounds are lovely, clean and tidy.

Sunbeds- there are plenty. Even if you look for one at 2pm, you will find one.

Kids - there's not that many kids but the ones who are here look like they are having a good time and the entertainment is geared up for them.

Location - there isn't much around other than the lovely port but unless you are going to eat and drink there or buy designer clothes there isn't a lot to do. This has been perfect for us as we wanted a nice relaxing break and we are getting exactly what we wanted.

Don't let petty complaints from other reviews put you off this hotel. It's a great hotel and definitely worth a visit.

I would come back to this hotel.

Have just returned from 10 nights all inclusive at Costa calero. This was our 9th visit.I'm not sure why to be honest but the hotel does not seem to be as good as it used to be.Check in was good, got 5th floor room as requested with fab views.Arrived just in time for dinner,Chinese night which was very good.I don't think the staff are as friendly as they used to be,on an evening in restaurant, the whole time we were there no one met us or showed us to a table. One night the waitress actually rolled her eyes we asked for 2 different bottles of wine,I wanted white hubby wanted red.Sunbeds where crazy,we joined the rest in the end and put towels out at night Didn't watch much entertainment so can't really comment.I always used to think food was good here but now quality has dropped,if you went in after 9pm there was not much meat on show.I am sure if you go to this hotel you will have a good time,I just think that over the last few years standards have dropped and I will be looking elsewhere for my next holiday.
