“Couldn't really fault it”
Reviewed 26 August 2014

Stayed in July/August and really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The hotel is so clean and spacious, the grounds are set out with so much thought with areas for those who want to be where the action takes place, and those who just want to relax and chill in quiet surroundings, there was also a lovely grassed area and pool which was ideal for families with young children and larger groups of people, and there was a small beach area also. It was lovely to have branded drinks included rather than the foreign stuff. The food was very nice with plenty of choice. There were lots of areas in the hotel to sit and relax on an evening if you didn't want to be in the main entertainment lounge or piano bar. The entertainment shows on a night were a mixture of good, ok and not so good. The hotel never felt over crowded even in the height of the summer. Our teenage son had a fantastic time and made lots of friends. We are not partial to visiting the same place twice as we like to try new places each year, but I would definitely recommend this hotel to others, as my title says 'couldn't really fault it'.

This was my first experience on going on a "package holiday", and I'm pleasantly surprised just how good it was. Room was very clean, a good size, and having a balcony was perfect so you have the opportunity to get away from the other guests and still enough the sun!

Food, drink and service were all very good - and the spa was absolutely fantastic. Even though I usually prefer to do a city breaks rather than this type of thing, I would definitely not complain coming back here again!

Me and a friend have just arrived back from our 10 day stay at the Costa Calero. As soon as we arrived we felt welcomed and the reception area is really lovely. We got a room on the 5th floor which had an amazing sea view with a balcony. We had emailed the hotel prior to our stay and they acknowledged they had dealt with our request. We could not fault the hotel on anything. Our highlights from the holiday were the friendly staff, the animation team, the lovely pools and also the free visit to the Spa. We will definitely be visiting again. Thankyou x

This was our first visit but travelled with family who were multiple visitors the hotel is very very clean and the food and drink excellent. The staff are first class too. During our stay though we were plagued by biting flies which I think were horse flies they really hurt. The reason why I didn't give 5 stars was purely down to the fact there isn't a quiet bar during the day. You have two pool bars and that's it so if you want to escape for a quiet drink during the day your stuck.
Bottom line though is that I would definitely recommend the hotel.

We recently stayed at the Costa calero for 11 nights, the hotel is very nice, our room was on the 4th floor and had a loverly sea view. And the room itself was very nice and a good size. The hotels facilities were very good and the gardens were very well maintained.
We enjoyed the evening entertainment, especially the non animation team shows. The main bar was nice and there was always a place to sit and it was nice to have a good range of drinks for all-inclusive and decent quality wine.
The food was good and there was always something to choose.
The free bus was great and we used the facility as you can walk to playa del Carmen along the costal path but it was a bit too hot to walk.
As people have mentioned previously the walk down to the marina was very steep. But once down it was a nice place to have a drink.

Although there was loads of space and plenty of sun loungers, there is however people who reserve loungers and those who think it is their spot and seem very put out if they don't get that space. And don't appear until mid day.! But as I said although I don't like reserving loungers, but if you don't want to spend ages walking around you have no choice but to join everyone else
The other downside was that at lunch was served by the pool the room was mainly a glass roof and it was very uncomfortable as it felt like siting in a greenhouse and it was very hot.
My main complaint is that if you a non smoker is was most unpleasent to sit surrounded by smokers if you sat by the pool bar, or if you wanted to enjoy a drink outside at the main bar. Smoking and non smoking areas should be considered.

However overall these are minor complaints and we had a fantastic stay, and would definatly return

We came back in August as part of our two centre holiday, split between here and Playa Blanca.
What can I add to last years review? Well the improvements might be minimal to some but they do add to the overall enjoyment.
First the TV now has multiple UK channels, so when you come back from a trip or off your sun lounger there are all the BBC channels and SKY. Second the Wi Fi has been improved dramatcially, it is now everywhere including in your bedroom. The benefit here is that the kids are now not all crowded downstairs in the WiFi area, as last year, but I could recieve all my business emails easily.
The food continues to be excellent and there is enormous variety at every meal. I dont believe anyone could complain that there is not enough choice. Even the hot meals, whether you choose the Chef's special (which yes you do have to get in line for) or the other prepared meals like Lasgne or what the other Chef is cooking fresh, there is a good choice. Some do pile there plates with every choice but thats their decision but if you eat one normal meal on any day the following week there would be the choice of other options.

The Spa is great, make sure you take your one day pass in (if on all inclusive)

We did hire a car this year so that we could go straight from the Airport to the Hotel and go out to visit certain areas of the island which we really found added to the holiday fun. The Hotel does provide transport to Puerto Carmen but there are so many other beaches to visit.

The entertainment team are great and the additional acts the Hotel bring in means there is something for everyone over a week. We recognised many of the staff from last year so clearly the staff must be happy there and this comes across in the service.

So in summary a great hotel with very good food, if on all inclusive as much to drink as you would like and lots to do.

My family and I have been twice now and are never let down by the amazing rooms food and staff. The entertainers in particular are fab. They know exactly how to keep the family entertained for the entire day and I'd recommend this hotel to just about everyone.
