“Chillaxing holiday with lifestyle holidays”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

booked this holiday as a wee cheapy with my friend as my son was away on holiday with his gran, thought I would check it out for future holidays. wasn't expecting much but was very pleasantly surprised. booked cheap flight from Prestwick to barca then took the train to vilanova I la geltru really easy to get to. arrived at the park really late at night, the staff were very friendly and drove us down to our 2 bedroom caravan, was lovely and clean, big decking area and bbq, everything we need to cook or eat out was there. Hayley and Nigel from lifestyle holidays visited us to see if we were ok and if we needed anything and give us some advise on getting about and the park. The park itself was lovely and clean and very well equipped, would recommend lifestyle holidays and this park to everyone. thanks to Hayley and nigel for making us feel welcome.

This was our first holiday to this particular part of the Spanish coastline and also our first encounter with Lifestyle holidays. We are a small family who have enjoyed previous park holidays with a variety of other providers.
We thoroughly enjoyed our break. We were made extremely welcome by the reps Hayley and Nigel. They made a point of ensuring our stay was enjoyable and checked in with us at regular intervals for a chat etc. They had an excellent knowledge of the area giving helpful hints and tips on where to go and how to get there. We hired a car from Barcelona airport as this is our normal way of doing things, we like to get off the beaten track. Transport links to the site were excellent though with many families using the bus and train. We did, infact, use the train to go to Barcelona for the day. This is well worth the effort.
The site is tidy, well maintained and well resourced. Two large pool areas with many sun loungers available. We stayed for May half term and despite many families being there it was never overcrowded. The staff were always friendly. The shop is well stocked and not really any more expensive than the supermarkets in town.
Vilanova itself is a working town so doesn't have that usual touristy feel and isn't for you if you are looking for english food. The main Rambla comes alive and provides lots of opportunities to eat and drink with the locals. Tutti fruitti ice cream shop at the bottom of the Rambla is by far the best of the lot by the way!!
The beach in Vilanova is nice but more scenic ones can be found at Sitges and Segur de callafell a short drive away.
Back to the park, the plots are extremely shaded due to the vast number of trees so if you like decking in full sun this is not for you. Also due to the number of trees bird poo on the decking can be a daily occurrence on some plots so be aware if you have young children.
Lifestyle do have a policy of asking you to clean your mobile home prior to departure or loose 40 euro of the 80euro deposit you give. We cleaned up, it didn't take long and we felt the main point here was to encourage people to respect the accommodation by keeping it fairly tidy throughout your stay.
The other thing to say about lifestyle as a whole is that they tend to have a policy to book out for the slots they have available. For example we wanted a 7 night stay but ended up having to pay for 10 nights as that is the slot they had left. Another family mentioned they had the same experience.
Again a big thanks to Nigel and Hayley for an enjoyable stay!

We stayed with Thomson Alfresco and mobile homes are tucked away in a corner right next to the road and a timberyard. Pitches are pretty small and gravelled and cars need to be bumped up kerbs to park. Mobile was spacious and clean but pretty standard. Outdoor pool areas are attractive but water wasn't heated. You have to wear swim caps at the indoor pool and buy a prepaid card to use it at weekends. Seemed a bizarre system, and it doesn't say anything about this in the literature. On site supermarket well stocked and prices fair. Food in restaurant pretty good and staff friendly. Not a bad site but could do with some more grassy areas, play equipment or waterslides to elevate it above average.

We stayed here for a week during May half term – three adults, two children. We booked an Emerald caravan through Lifestyle holidays for a very reasonable price. The caravan was spotless, spacious and well equipped. The Lifestyle reps, Hayley and Nigel, were really friendly and helpful. The rep's office was open all day and was well equipped with info about the local area as well as books, games and cleaning materials that could be borrowed. The Lifestyle vans are really well situated - close enough to get to all the facilities easily but far enough away so as not to be bothered by noise.

The park is large but none of the facilities ever felt crowded (although there are a lot of beds around the pool so I'm guessing it gets pretty packed in high season). The facilities are all well maintained. The restaurant was nice - we ate tapas there a couple of times – portions were
plentiful, food was delicious and the service was good.

We had just a couple of minor gripes about the park:

1. The jumping pillow at 2 euros for 15 minutes and the crazy golf at 5 euros per person per round are a bit of a rip off.

2. The park was very inflexible with regard to pool opening times. For example, some mornings the outdoor pools were closed all morning due to rain then, even though there was glorious sunshine all afternoon, they closed at 6pm sharp. I know the park can't control the rain but surely after being out of use all morning the pools could have been kept open a little later for people to take advantage of the sunshine?

3. The indoor pool has a ridiculous rule that you have to wear a bathing cap. Ridiculous because some of the security people check up on this, some don't. There were also people in the pool with the caps on their heads but with long hair hanging out the bottom making them completely pointless! They charge 4 euros per hat in the shop at the park - we bought ours in the town for about 1 euro each. Use of indoor pool is free Monday-Friday but there is a charge at weekends. Not sure why?

Vilanova itself is a little bit shabby although the beach is nice and there are some good very reasonably priced supermarkets. Just a few miles away lies the beautiful town of Sitges with lots of bars and restaurants, pretty buildings and lovely little shops – well worth a visit.

We flew in and out of Barcelona and hired a car for the duration of our stay – we thought this was very worthwhile as the park is situated a little out in the sticks so having a car made sense for shopping, day trips etc. We visited Barcelona on our final day and also made a trip into Barca one other day to visit Camp Nou, which I would recommend even if you're not a football fan. We went to Camp Nou independently (parking at the stadium is free on non-match days if you are visiting the museum) but you can also go on an organised excursion from Vilanova Park.

All in all a really lovely relaxing little break on a nice clean park with good facilities.

We booked a rental with the Sun holiday and wasn;t sure what to expect. We got cheap flights with easyjet and got the free shuttle bus from terminal 2 to terminal 1, where we got the monbus to vilanova. It only cost 35 euros for 5 of us to get there which we thought was a bargain. We experienced no hassles at the airport whatsoever. We got to the park and checked in with reception again easy and quick, got shown to the caravan and were pleasantly surprised. It has 2 bedrooms with 3 singles in one and a double in the other, loads of storage and aircon too. Had a fridge freezer, cooker, gas hob, bbq outside and it was clean and comfortable. The site itself is huge but we were not in the height of the season so sometimes the outdoor pool was not open and the entertainment had not started yet so not much for the kids to do at night. The restaurant was nice and food good, especially the takeaway, but not sure how good it would be in the height of the season and it was super busy. The shop was good but only open 6 hours a day even in high season so again not sure what it would be like in high season. Saying that all the facilities were clean and very good couldn't fault it, overall a good holiday and would say to anyone to give it a go :)

Stayed in a Eurocamp mobile home. Fine for what it was and the price paid.
Park itself is large but well thought out with plenty of attractive planting around the site and good facilities - can see the pool getting very busy in peak season though (we were there at the end of May).
Restaurant pretty disappointing for an area that has so much to offer in terms of cuisine. Fine for a family pizza / salad type meal or a beer / coffee stop.
Overall I would recommend.

This was the second time we have stayed at this campsite. This time we returned with two other families as we were going to a wedding near Barcelona. All the children from 1 to 8 years absolutely loved the site. The Al Fresco mobile homes occupy one of the best areas near the pool, shop, restaurant - but not close enough to be noisy. The Vivaldi Luxe mobile home we stayed in was superb - full kitchen, air conditioning, power shower, spacious living area, with covered outdoor decking area and gas BBQ. The site has two pools, both of which are fantastic (but tend to be very busy in July/August so take a blanket to sit on the grass as you're unlikely to get a lounger) and lots of other facilities. We found the onsite restaurant to be very average (was better on last stay) and we only ate there once. Vilanova is 30 mins from both Barcelona and Port Aventura. I would thoroughly recommend it for a family trip. A big thank you to Vic and Bren the Al Fresco reps.

Room Tip: Would completely recommend booking with Al Fresco for great location and top mobile homes

Hi

Sounds like you had a fantastic holiday on Vilanova Park - we're really pleased you enjoyed your holiday.

I agree, I think we have a great location on the campsite - a nice walk to the pool, restaurant and supermarket. The swimming pools are gorgeous aren't they - with some lovely views too :-)

Thank you for your review and hope the wedding you attended went well.
We hope to welcome you back soon,
the Al Fresco team
