“A very relaxing place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 December 2012

This property is both an easy walk to Blouberg Beach as well as a large mall and major bus stop. The bus is very clean and efficient and can take you anywhere in the city. If you have a car, they also offer gated parking. The beach offers a large selection of restaurants and bars. The property itself is set up almost like a hotel offering a full bathroom, coffee maker, fridge, and micro wave as well as a pool. It's feels like a very secure location within a residential area. Dave the owner is a gratuitous host. You can visit his web site at http://www.oceanblueguesthouse.net/

I think this property should also be listed under Blouberg Beach, I'm not sure how many people would find it searching under Bloubergrant on Tripadvisor?

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 March 2011

We flew Dublin to Heathrow with BMI and then on to Cape Town [CT] on the overnight BA42 flight. All flights departed on time, with polite crew providing an efficient in-flight service. Being a night flight, the in-flight order of service was; drinks, food, further drinks following which the lights were quickly dimmed. I soon fell asleep and woke some 8 hrs later to find the aircraft circling the famous Table Mountain, complete with ‘table cloth’ of cloud cover. For those not sleeping, there was a good range of on board entertainment including TV, movies and music stations to choose from.

CT airport was clean and modern, with an efficient arrivals hall and polite passport staff which was both welcoming and reassuring. We collected our luggage and were out of the airport within a 1/2 hr where we were met by our hosts, the owners of Ocean Blue Guest House – Dave and Paul. During the thirty minute drive from the airport to the B&B, Dave enthusiastically pointed out various places of interest before eventually arriving at what would be "home" for the next 2 weeks. We were greeted enthusiastically by Molly and Muffin, the owners’ two adorable little dogs.

The B&B is situated on Crassula Road, a quiet residential area some 15k north west of CT by road. The street has a number a B&B’s, interspersed with private villas/ houses. The Bloubergrant area offers a large selection of shops, bars and restaurants less than a 10 minute walk away from the B&B.

The B&B is one street back [5-10 min walk] from the Bloubergstrand beach, which is popular with kite surfers and other water sport enthusiasts. Bloubergrant beach sits directly opposite Robben Island, the former prison where Nelson Mandela had been incarcerated, and is approx 7km across the bay from Table Mountain. It offers a perfect vantage point to take in the spectacular views of Table Mountain as well as the glorious evening sunsets.

B&B itself was understated and low key, a single story villa style building tucked away behind a high perimeter wall and electronic entrance gate. The secure guest accommodation is built as an annex onto the main property, complimented by landscaped gardens with mature plants, shrubs and trees.

Our accommodation, a studio style room with separate bathroom was bright, clean and fresh, simple plain modern furnishings with a slight ethnic twist. White walls, accented with red furnishing and African prints. The large modern bathroom had a powerful ‘soaker’ style shower, with towels and some toiletries provided (hand wash, air freshener etc). There was plenty of hot water over the course of the next 2 weeks. The bedroom had a comfortable queen size bed, large ceiling fan, small fridge freezer which contained beer, wine and water; a really nice touch. There was also tea & coffee making facilities with bistro seating on the veranda directly outside. Overall the ambience was modern, welcoming and homely. Perfect!

On arrival our hosts made fresh coffee and offered some lunch before giving us the tour of the B&B’s facilities on offer. There is an attractive pool area with sun loungers complimented by a shaded seating area, a large bbq patio and small paying guest bar.
The next two weeks were spent in a whirlwind of sightseeing, eating [& drinking!], sun bathing on an array of gorgeous beaches, the next one seemingly more stunning than the previous. Sightseeing – we had a packed agenda taking in many of the tourist attractions to include Table Mountain which was spectacularly beautiful with stunning views.

We also visited Camps Bay, Haute Bay, False Bay, West Coast National Park, Langebaan, Boulders Beach – to see the penguins and stunning backdrop, Dolphin Beach where we saw a pod of dolphins [this is just a 20 min walk from the B&B] towards Ons Huisie, Eden and Clifton beaches, Sandy Bay where we swam with seals!, Chapman’s Peak, did the Garden Route up to Stellenbosch, stopped for lunch in Franschhoek [beautiful Cape-Dutch former colonial town], stopped for cocktails at Spiers [a ‘must see’ and the ‘bush food’ in Muyo restaurant is excellent!), visited the cheetah sanctuary, observed more wild life, did the Cape Town Aquarium [which is superb] and the historic V&A... the list goes on and on.

Credit must go to Paul who ended up being both our tour guide and chauffeur for the 2 weeks and never once complained about the driving. He remained stoic even when his car broke down at the top of Kloofnek [very steep road up Table Mountain] – poor ‘Dolly Daewoo’ had had enough! She was quickly replaced by a Volkswagen hire car that Dave kindly arranged for us to collect in central Cape Town.

Overall, the trip was awesome. Cape Town has so much to offer and the surrounding countryside is truly spectacular. Quality accommodation and wonderful hosts capped off what was an amazing 2 week trip. Our only regret – not staying longer!
