This is a lovely spot to spend a few days. The rooms were clean, the staff accommodating, the food slow but plentiful, but the view is just outstanding. We spent lots of time on the various terraces or balconies, enjoyed some water activities, and just chilled. There is not much to do in the area so make sure you bring your reading material and other distractions with you.

We stayed here for a night - so wish it could have been longer! The rooms are immaculate and comfortable with large bathrooms but the real winner is the view over Lake Kivu (try for a top floor room though there is a crow who likes to dance on the roof in the morning :-) ). The balconies all look right out onto the Lake which is stunning. The staff can't do enough and the food / bar is good. Drink local beers - Western imports are as expensive as London! We went out on the little boat that the hotel owns in the morning - really recommend it as it was a great way to see the islands nearby and it was only the two of us in the boat. Would happily have spent the week here to relax!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Moriah Hill for a night, and it was amazing. Upon our arrival we were well greeted with cocktails. The staff also showed themselves with great customer service care. We booked a room on the top floor, giving us an outstanding view of the lake and the mountains. It's a very quiet place with a beautiful view on the lake. In regards to the food, be prepared to wait about an hour or so, the service is quite slow. There's not much to do, really. But do they have some water activities, such as kayaking and pedal-boats. The kayaking was a lot of fun, and rather cheap for an hour time. Another downer is the quality of their mattresses. Aside from that, it's a beautiful place to visit.

Room Tip: Go for the top level rooms, you'll have a great view.

The Moriah Hill is situated in a very secluded spot in Kibuye with great access to the lake. We stayed for a weekend and did some kayaking and swimming. The service is very friendly and helpful, but also incredibly slow. If you order a meal you better not be starving - the longest service time we had was 1 hour and 45 minutes! Food is decent and fairly priced. Rooms are good and all have balconies, which is great in the evenings. Would definitely come back!

There are few options for upmarket accommodation in the small town of Kibuye on the shores of Lake Kivu, but I would recommend Moriah Hill if you want to get away from it all. Kibuye is perfectly located for a weekend break from Kigali, or as an overnight stop if you are exploring western Rwanda.

The hotel was undergoing renovations when I checked in, so the reception desk was quirkily located in a parking garage. But this was presumably a temporary arrangement, and the building works did not disrupt or disturb my stay. The rooms are nicely furnished and clean, and the en suite bathrooms are basic but functional.

The main selling point is the panoramic view of Lake Kivu, which is spectacular from the bedrooms and the restaurant. A boat ride to the nearby islands is definitely worth doing.

The rooms are built in a cascade style on a mountainside, which has the disadvantage that the guests above can look down onto your balcony from theirs. The restaurant offered food that was good without being great, but the service was so slow I wondered if someone was sent into town to buy the ingredients for each order.

The sensation of being cut off from the world was compounded by the facts that the TV did not work and I had no internet access during my stay, although internet access and DSTV are promised on the website.

In summary, a great place to unwind and take life at a slower pace for a while – but don’t expect quick service, and don’t expect to keep in touch by email, Skype or Facebook.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room to protect your privacy on your balcony.

We spent two nights here, in one of the rooms on the top floor, with the best view and no neighbors looking at us on the terrace from above. We enjoyed it very much. The place is nice for swimming, you can rent a kayak, and the food is good and reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly. Two smallish reservations though: the restaurant service can be very slow, and the bathroom was not exactly new.

The Moriah Hill 'Resort' is located right at the shores of Lake Kivu in the scenic town of Kibuye, now known as Karongi. It is a mid prized hotel, with room charges, breakfast and taxes included, starting at a modest 81 US Dollars. Equipped with hard wired internet cables, the service had been out of order for the past several days, supposedly because of a tower failure though fellow travellers with an USB modem of MTN could pick a perfect signal.
The main feature of the hotel clearly is the location but the rooms were adequately furnished and breakfast, buffet style, was varied and the juices freshly prepared. The main menu showed a wide selection of local and international dishes available at reasonable prices.
When using any of the sockets in the room, do NOT pull your cord out without holding on the the socket first or the socket itself will come out with the cord, something also seen elsewhere in similar budget hotels. A TV is available but the plug at the end of the cord did not fit into the socket, not that I watch much TV while on the road. Location wise A1 rated, for all else I would say adequate.

Room Tip: For those fit enough the top floor rooms will offer the best Vista across Lake Kivu and towards the...
