Wonderfull location with great views on the lake. We have stayed in a room, bathroom okay, room simple. Furnished tents look fine as well, but do not have own washroom. Be prepared for a fresh morning (1800 meters!).
Activities like canoe and swimming possible. Walking oppertunities limited. Possibility to visit a local school.

Breakfast okay, but not wel organized, rather slow. Dinner with good views on the lake. Some staff welcoming, some staff ignorant. Wifi near the reception available.

Heartbreaking that on the way to the resort you see many families chipping stones in terrible conditions.

I thought the Lake Bunyonyi Overland Resort was beautiful and wished I could have stayed longer than one night. I stayed with two friends that I had met whilst in Uganda. Me and the other girl, Lucy, in one tent, the boy Tom in his own. Very reasonably priced, especially when anything like this in the 'Western World' would cost upwards of £100 pn.
We loved the treetop tents overlooking the lake and found them to be very comfortable. As we were staying only one night we didn't make use of the shower facilities, but from what we saw it was okay.
During our stay in mid-July we found it to be quiet and peaceful, despite the owner stating that many rooms had already been booked and we may not be able to stay. In fact, our neighbouring tents had no one staying in them as it was so quiet in the days and nights.
The food at the restaurant was very tasty, although the afternoon we departed all three of us ordered the chicken noodles and all three of us was very ill for days. Yes, it can happen and we were all pretty optimistic so that didn't spoil our memories of our stay at the resort.
I highly recommend this place to all. It's a chance to breathe in Uganda's beauty, yet have the chance to meet other Western travelers at the same time. A real gem.

Room Tip: Treetop tents just above the boardwalk and diving board are the best. Close to the bar, lake and toi...

Lake Bunyoni is one of those places in the world you shouldn’t miss and no matter where you stay, its beauty will abate any niggles. However, places do book out, and the Overland Resort wasn’t one of the best reviewed, but it did have vacancies. It did the job, but I didn’t love it. The structure of the accommodation is more than gorgeous and the cottage-room with ensuite which I stayed was beautifully located, a hairs-breadth from the Lake, (and had fabulous fluffy white towels!!). The bar and dining areas are decked, with great views, good food (excellent crayfish), drinks and music. There’s also televisions screening football games and the like. But, it’s the weird mix of different crowds that doesn’t quite work here. Overland trucks, campers and individual accommodation bookers just never gelled. Around the communal fire at night everyone was very set in their specific groups. Boat cruises from here were expensive and the weekly market (a very quick walk, don’t take a boat), is quite small and not as colourful as guides/books would lead you to believe. Take a book, relax, drink in the beauty, chill on a row boat around the Islands. Ask around for other accom recommendations, but if its here you have to stay, it’s certainly not bad, it’s just there’s probably better.

My wife, a friend, and I recently spent one night at the Overland Resort. Two caveats for the reader: we came during rainy season and right after a perfect stay at Nshongi Camp (see my other review) for gorilla tracking.

We were not impressed with Overland resort for a number of reasons. First, the price was higher than other accommodation we have found in Uganda, but as we were visiting on Easter weekend we had little choice of where to stay. The fact that Overland still had rooms available when no one else did should have been a warning to us.

Overland would be successful if it chose between rustic charm (like the fantastic Nshongi Camp, more locally at Bunyonyi the Byoona Amagara) or resort (like the Birdsnest or Bunyonyi Safaris Resort). Instead, it splits the difference and so disappoints by being too expensive and delivering poor service.

We found the front desk staff only mildly helpful and curt. They were not at all helpful in recommending places to eat outside of the resort, mostly because they wanted us to eat at their restaurant. But the 28,000 UGX a plate buffet was not good and did not change substantially between lunch and dinner, so they should expect guests will want to explore other restaurants. Next, the price of a motorboat tour around the island was substantially more expensive at Overland than if you literally walk outside your door and find a local resident who is happy to take you around (Overland: 100,000 UGX for 1 hour tour, local: 80,000 for three hour tour... and you will need 3 hours!).

In general the staff were not able to answer any of our questions about the area, the resort, our rooms... anything. They were also not empowered to go that extra mile for guests. We wanted to buy water on the morning of our departure and among the full kitchen staff not a single person present could sell us a simple bottle of water (which they have stacks up behind the bar) because "the barman is not here yet." This smacks of a foreign-owned resort where the people in charge do not trust their employees. I think the employees sense this dynamic as well as thus never seem to be in a good mood or eager to help.

The room was clean and the shower was hot (for roughly 5 minutes). The power was spotty (probably because the solar was not getting charged by the sun due to rainy reason clouds. We did not see any bugs, but both my wife and I woke up with tons of bug bites despite deploying the mosquito net (leaving me to surmise there were some sort of bugs crawling in the bed).

Not the worst place to stay in Uganda, but if you have an option to go anywhere else, do so.

Everything was OK. Nice and helpful staff, good room. Only problem that we encountered was the power. Hot water is electric and generator is turned on only at night, which means only cold showers during the day..

The location and setting of this campsite / village are brilliant.  Everything was clean, there was a clothes line and some provision made for laundering your clothes.  There certainly was noise associated with e bar as observed by other guests on trip advisor but the sites our groups were in were quite distant and not a problem.  Hot water was a significant problem. Most people in our group of 20 could not get it
Staff were using hot water and showers to wash laundry
One issue - Lighting on way to camping area was dangerous - there is a step on the pathway that is in shadow - it can't be seen at night because of the position of the light
Another minor issue was Wifi was so sporadic as to be useless
But as camping goes these are minor issues - the setting was brilliant, the grassy campsites metres froxm the lake were gorgeous and the staff helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: If camping, ask for down by the lake

Stayed here for four nights in a family cottage. The rooms were very clean, the environment is quite and beautiful. The campfire, meals and friendly staff are commendable. You can take a canoe ride for free but you have to pay for the motorized boats (about 10 USD per person). Lazy camping is also possible. Tents are fun but they can get too cold at night/morning.
