We spent the whole day looking for this place as web site quoted it as a beautiful,
wheelchair friendly, romantic getaway. Well, it was none of the above, the place is tiny, no grass or much greenery to be seen in area and definetly not at all wheel chair friendly. The lodge or rooms were all closed and not a soul in sight. I can say this for the foreigner that owns it though................. he is great on the computer. My advice is stay clear and stop at one of the many beutiful highland spots along the way. One last thing, not in Khao Kho, but actually 15km from village, when place closed we called the number on the fancy board, but guess what...No reply......... surprise, surprise !
Only three small bungalows very close together, so if privacy is what you are after, you won't find it here !

The area and village are wonderful - tidy, well kept and not many dogs to growl at you.
The bungalows are comfortable with a big bed, hot water and two English channels on the satellite TV (Russian news channel and some other one). The place must not get used often because there were cobwebs around and in one of the drawers we found a huge ants' nest. The electrics are touchy and everything needs a second push or shove to work. But we were comfortable.

The problems came with the fact that the accommodation is a bit far from the center of Khao Kho and we had no transport. During the day we can walk to the main street and find some food, but at night it will be impossible to find dinner. Nobody speaks good enough English to give you directions either.
Tanoi's cousin was kind enough to give us a ride the first day to the center so we can get eat dinner. The second day he also drove us around the area a bit for a fee. We were quoted over 2000 baht for a songthew to drive us around for a few hours.
Getting out proved to be a hassle too. Without Internet, Thai and any knowledge of the area, it was a bit of a roulette. Another relative of Tanoi showed up in the morning we were going and gave us a ride to the center to pick up the bus. Turned out it was not from the kindness of her heart and she wanted to charge us 200 baht for that. A real taxi will charge us that to go from one end of Bangkok to the other, not for 5 min ride!

Overall we liked the area lot. The people in the village were wonderful too. But felt that Tanoi could have told us about all the difficulties in finding food and getting places, especially traveling with children. On top of it all, the lack of internet left us feeling stranded.

For everything that you are not getting, 700baht per night was not that good of a deal either.
Go if you want the experience and if you have your own transport. Otherwise, find another option to experience village life.

We have been on the way from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and were visiting some friends in Lomsak (Phetchabun Province). We decided to stay in a little private guesthouse in the mountains close to Lomsak. The mountain village was called Khao Kho and is about 30 minutes away. It was so nice that we decided to stay 3 days longer. We were hiking in the mountains every day, visiting the local markets and just found it realaxing to escape the Bangkok sticky gray atmosphere. Every night we were joining the guesthouse owner Tanoi and her family for barbeque and beer. Some of them were playing live guitar around the fire place. It was really romantic. The guesthouses are clean, spacious and embedded in a very nice garden with a nice view. We had a perfect stay for very little money.

Room Tip: Guesthouse 1 has the best view. Call Tanoi direct.
