The most appealing memory of a weekend stay at this complex was that the staff were friendly, courteous and responsive. The complex is adequately maintained and functional, although our external view of a brick wall would not have given a hint that the sea is nearby. But the local supermarket is not and be prepared for a good walk to restaurants, or rent a car.

I have just returned from a lovely weeks stay at Don Juan Resort in Manilva. The apartment was nicely decorated, very clean, comfortable with good facilities. The resort is set within beautiful gardens which had a large kidney shaped pool overlooking the beach. You couldn't get any closer to the beach if you tried actually as you step out of the complex straight on to it, with the added bonus of a beach bar right on hand to boot. The nearby resorts of Castillio & Duquesa are really lovely and are only a short walk away. We enjoyed some great restaurants in Duquesa, with various bars too that surround a quaint harbour. We also took a trip to nearby Gibraltar which is only about a 20 minute car ride away and also to Estepona which is about a 10 minute car ride away. All in all a very enjoyable holiday and we will return again x

We stayed at the Don Juan in the middle of June for two weeks. The gardens are gorgeous and the lawns are soft underfoot (not like the coarse stuff using found on the Costas!) We had beautiful views from our terrace of the gardens and the ocean and the pool was never over crowded. The pool was cool and really clean, as was the entire complex. Manoly (on reception) always greeted us with a warm smile and she is very knowledgeable about the area and extremely helpful if you have a problem. You can get easy access direct on to the beach through the resorts private gate, and we took a wake up walk every morning (turning right) through the nature reserve that runs along the coast, and the gentle breeze in June was a welcome relief from the sun. Turning the opposite way was a leisurely meander to the port of Duquesa, via Castillo, with its numerous bars and restaurants. It takes 10 mins if you are on a mission, but at a gentle stroll along the flat beachfront promenades probably more like 20. A lovely place to be in the sunshine if you love being seafront and don't want crowds. Duquesa is a thriving port, great at happy hour (4-9.00pm if you time it right!) and a diverse range of foods to suit every pocket. We recommend The Bistro for Sunday lunch which is actually owned by the English butcher, and Heaven for a light low cost tapas special with a drink included! A lovely place for a couple or family. Feels nice and safe, but pretty easy to get to Marbella and Puerto Banus, or even Gibraltar if you are feeling more adventurous.

Room Tip: Rooms on floor -1 are actually garden level.

These are good beachside apartments which have recently reopened for holiday lets following a number of years when they were for owner use only. The apartments have immaculate gardens and an outdoor pool, and there are beachside bars along the coast on the walk to Marina de La Duquesa (Romeos is good, about half way to Duquesa), which takes about half an hour, or there are buses right outside the apartment. Taxi between the apartment and the Marina is 7 - 9 euros depending on the time of day. There is a 1 euro circular local bus service to La Duquesa, Sabinillas and return. Reception should be able to help you with times, or call into the tourist information centre behind C Bar.

The immediate area is generally very quiet. The indoor pool and sauna are not yet open (this would be a great improvement), but the outdoor pool is lovely in hot weather.

There is a large supermarket along the main road, or a good small supermarket behind the marina which sells English brands as well as fresh food and everything you need. La Duquesa has plenty of bars and restaurants.

Typical day is to wander down to the marina for breakfast or coffee, pick up groceries then relax by the pool until sangria time. Seville is 90 mins by car, Marbella is about 30 mins by car, or you can get the bus via Estepona. There is a business centre and tourist info office in the marina where you can get information about buses. Gibraltar is well worth a day out. Plenty of english shops and pubs, cable car up the rock and a 5k walk down.

You can manage perfectly well without a car as long as you are happy to walk or bus it.

it seems obvious to fly to Malaga and hire a car, but a great alternative is to fly to Gibraltar and get the bus from la Linea (just a walk from the airport over the border into Spain) - less than 4 euros, or hire a car for collection from La Linea (Brunos in Duquesa is great value). The bus service is run by Autobuses Portillo and is not that frequent but it is reliable and stops outside Don Juan before it goes on to Duquesa and Estepona. You can get a taxi just over the border at La Linea - might cost 40 euros and take 25 minutes.

Last mention has to be Tim's Fish and Chips in the Marina - best f&c you will get anywhere and always freshly cooked.

Overall a great place to stay, right on the beach with good facilities.

This hotel has apparently just reopened under new management and so you can ignore the older reviews. The location is right on the beach with sea views from our balcony over the gardens and pools. Most of the apartments look like they face the sea and ours looked brand new inside so must have had a makeover recently. The reception is now open 24 hours and although a bit bare the staff were lovely and told me that there was a lot more to come as they had not long opened for business. Nearby there is a traditional Spanish restaurant and plenty more a short walk away in Castillo. In fact the marina of La Duquesa is only 20 mins by foot along the beach, or a lot longer if you can't avoid the temptation of the "chiringuito" beach bars! Looking forward to returning next year!

Room Tip: There are lifts from the underground car park to all the floors so you just need to check whether yo...

This apartment complex is no longer run by EH hotels it is privately run at present. which means that there will be no reception or bar service in the complex but the apartments back onto the beach which has a beach restaurant. Prices will now vary depending who you book your apartment directly from. The pool area , gardens,Kids pool and adult pool are well maintained. the area is beautifull and apartments are a mix of 1-2 & 3 bed.

Stayed in the Don Juan in September, have to say had a great time. We've been to the area a few times before but each time stayed in a friend's villa nearby. This time the villa wasn't available so we booked the Don Juan online. We were wary at the start as we have a 6 year old and two 1 year olds but we didn't need to worry. Rooms were spacious, pool was fab, in fact we ended up by the pool for 7 out of our 8 days there. There wasn't a huge amount going on in the hotel by way of services but this suited us as we love eating out in the local restaurants which are fab anyway. Loads of great places to visit around too so its a brilliant base for exploring this area of the Costa. Great amenities in the rooms and spotless clean gardens and pool. Well enjoyed and we will be back!
