El Goleto Aparthotel was tired and worn. The gym was small and the whole place needed a good coat of paint. The photographs looked amazing and we were so looking forward to going but in reality it was pretty poor.

Just back from 2 weeks 7 - 21 August and we had a great time in Manilva. We had a 2 bed, 2 bathroom apartment on 3rd floor which had a lovely private balcony just off the living/dining room, which had a table 4 chairs & clothes dryer (pegs provided).
The kitchen was functional, washine machine, dishwasher, oven, hob, large fridge freezer, adequate cutlery & crockery for family of 4, although there was no kettle - we boiled our water in a saucepan! There was a coffee pot, but the jug was cracked so I decided against using it.
The mattresses are extremely hard, I bought sun lounger pillow from Lidl so that I could sleep, but the sheets were changed 3 times during our stay & there were plenty of hangers and a safe in the wardrobe.
The pool area was great with plenty of loungers, we were never stuck for one no matter what time we went down, but there was lots of space to sit on towels on the grass as well. Lovely big deep pool & a paddling pool.
We hired a car for our stay which was essential. There is a big shop (Erowski) about 15 mins walk away, but it's a steep hill to walk back. Lidl is 5 mins by car, but there wasn't much price difference between it and Erowski.
For eating out we found that Sabinillas offred much better quality food and half the price in some cases, compared to Duquesa. Again just 5 mins by car or a 10 min walk along the promenade from Duquesa.
Gibraltar & Marbella is only 25 mins away by car, an hour to Benalmadena.
Summing up I would go back to Aparthotel el Goleto & definitely to Manilva, it's a beautiful place.

So disappointment lies in the gap between what you expect and what you get. Realistically this was a last minute cheap week to Spain....less than £1000 including flights for three so my expectations weren't high. I looked at some of the reviews on here but got bored with people droning on about clean towels and a lack of cutlery, slow wi fi and the walk up the hill.....in other words no one had any significant complaints so I booked it! As we arrived I saw the big plaque out side proudly boasting two stars !!! ( Oh [--] I thought ) I shouldn't have worried. Reception was quick and friendly In the apartment in 3 minutes. The apartment was spacious, clean, cool with a massive balcony, with great air con' and had very little cutlery( for 8 euro we bought spoons a sharp knife and a chopping board at the local crap...sorry gift shop). I've got a video so you can see the apartment and judge for your self , just message me and I'll e-mail it to you. Everything (whirlpool bath, washing machine, dishwasher, air con T.V. massive fridge freezer) worked. ( yes I did say two star) We could see the Med (JUST) and the whole complex seemed quiet, calm and clean. The pool isn't the biggest 15m long and if you've got little kids it really doesn't have a shallow end 1.4m to 2.4m but its cleaned every day and there is a little paddling pool. The sun loungers, some have seen better days, but we never struggled to get three. The bar seemed to be open 10am-12midnight ish. If you like to base your holiday on getting sloshed all the time (good luck to you ) it doesn't seem that sort of place. Lots of couples with kids and a few older couples...no larger louts shouting or drunken shrieking women....in fact I didn't see a drunk all week. There is no 'entertainment'.... thank God.Never used the restaurant so can't comment. The spa was open 8 hrs a day, every thing worked and it was very clean. The sauna was the modern constant dry heat type and the steam room really let you know where you were sun burnt!! The gym was limited to 3 running machines a weight station and a rowing machine but all in working order. Now ....you knew I'd get to it...location. Here are the specifics. Its a 12 minute walk to the supermarket down hill, a fifteen minute walk back up hill. I'm 50 years old...it's no big deal...if it is for you, Hire a car for 20 euro a day or get a lift in a taxi for 6 euro. Its the same walk (plus 2 mins) to the beach.
To sum up, I really liked this place...the two stars are not representative of the accommodation, I've stayed in far worse 3 stars and a couple of worse 4 stars. The staff are friendly the whole place is very clean. I RECOMMEND IT for a quiet week or a base to explore from.

We spent 2 weeks at El Goleto from 3rd Aug. 2013 to the 18th Aug. 2013 renting one of the private Apartments on-site. Our apartment was in good order with air conditioning, washing machine, iron/ironing board, cooker etc. The pool was of good size and although could be busy at times always able to get a sunned when needed although some in poor condition! The restaurant on site wasn't to good but plenty of very good restaurants at the port if needed. There was a new restaurant opened when we was there called "Flame" that offered a wide selection of foods varying from steaks, ribs, chicken & pasta through to the best Indian curry's we've had. The prices are very competitive compared to the restaurants in the port and are plentiful in servings and I highly recommend a visit. The apartments are approximately 30-40 mins walk to the port up an extremely long steep hill. A car is highly recommended as we found out. The port alone mainly consists of restaurants and we only found one bar, "Sam Oliver's" that offers live singing of which was recommended. This is a relaxing place to stay and young families looking for evening entertainment may want to give a miss!

As with most reviews here, it's a nice resort with reasonably well appointed apartments.
Regular price for a one bed high season apartment is 144 euros per night, which we felt was a little high but as we managed to get ours for about half that, we've no real complaints.
Yes bed was firm but better that than overly soft and saggy, maid service was somewhat erratic and the cutlery and utensils a bit of a mish-mash.
Excellent very large fridge-freezer, air-con in both main room and bedroom, two balconies, dishwasher (didn't use but it was there) and a small microwave (had to swap plug with water heater socket).
Very good induction hob and oven.
No kettle, coffee-machine or toaster in ours and no further kettles available, and irons on request.

To be fair, the apartment was good and with just a few additional touches would've been excellent - especially at the price we paid!

We had a sea view from our balconies and the pool was just outside our front door. It's a reasonably small complex with a village type atmosphere and we had a very enjoyable stay.
Supermarkets and a bazaar nearby but down a steep hill - so you really need a car, and the beach is just a little further with plenty of parking.
If you leave the car there, beaches, restaurants, the castillo, the harbour etc. are all within walking distance, so there's quite a lot on your doorstep, so to speak.

A couple of negatives:
Reception closes at 10pm (or thereabouts) and re-opens at 8am and the perimeter gates are locked at 11.30pm (access to the complex by main entrance next to reception only) or from underground car park - if you've paid the extra but there's plenty of parking spaces outside.

Free WiFi is next to useless, slow and very shaky and only available in public areas. It's wireless-G and either needs upgrading or additional access points adding because the paid for 'Premium' service is almost as bad but means you can also have a slow and shaky connection inside your apartment as well.
IIRC, it's 1€ for 1 hour, 5€ for 1 day, 15€ for 4 days and 20€ for 7 days via a vending type machine that issues login details......for 1 device only.

Not much information available for local events and nothing planned during our stay - no entertainment as such, no flamenco or barbecue nights for example.

Would we stay again?
For a similar price definitely yes, but at the full price probably not.

Conclusion:
Nice resort but could easily be a lot better, lovely area not too far from Marbella and Gibraltar, so excellent location if you've got a car.
Feels a little harsh to just give an average rating for each category but I feel most areas could do with a little improvement (wont rate the spa because we didn't use it or even check it out due to needing a key for access), but I'm still going to give an overall rating of 'very good' because we enjoyed our holiday and the accommodation was available at a low price.

We stayed here for one week at a bargain price.
The situation I loved, our apartment was at the back of the complex and our very spacious balcony overlooked stunning mountainous landscapes. The pool was lovely, well equipped with lots of loungers and set within banana trees and olive trees. Great, helpful, friendly staff.
The place was initially pretty difficult to find so ensure you plan your arrival by map before you set off to save you driving around Duquesa all night until morning like we did. Sat nav doesn't recognise address.
Once you find it you won't be disappointed (unless you like a soft mattress! ).

We have just stayed at El Goletto Apartments for 2 weeks. We had a 2 bedroomed apartment which was very spacious - large bathroom and a shower room with toilet, kitchen with washer and dishwasher, large bedroom with double bed and smaller bedroom with 2 singles and had air-conditioning. There was a kettle, toaster, 2 frying pans, a pan and crockery and glasses and most importantly a corkscrew. The apartment was basic but clean. We were in apartment 96 which was on the ground floor facing the front road so we had no balcony only a large wall that blocked any view. This didn't bother us too much though as we went out every night anyway. We had our sheets changed twice while there and towels changed 3 times. You can get an iron and hairdryer from the reception.
The pool area was great for sunbathing but to be sure of a sun bed you needed to be there at 10.00am when it opened. Pool quite deep - 1.40 at shallow end and 2.40 at deep end but there is a small pool for children. There is a restaurant on site but we never used this and it did seem quiet. There is a small bar but this is only open when the restaurant is - closed from 3.00pm till 6.30pm. The apartments are situated in a very quiet area at the top of a hill. There are 2 supermarkets about a 20 minute walk away downhill but it is a very steep walk back up the hill especially when you are carrying a load of shopping. The smaller of the 2 supermarkets sold Cava at 1.69 Euros a bottle and it was really nice. Further on from the supermarket is Puerta de la Duquesa. You have to cross the main road via a bridge and then it is about a 10 minute stroll along a promenade on the beach to the marina. This is lovely. Lots of restaurants and bars offering a huge range of food - 2 Chinese restaurants, 2 Indian, many Italian, Mexican, Spanish, English dotted around the marina. Excellent Irish bar called Kinsale where there was nightly entertainment. This was very busy on a Friday and Saturday night - cocktails available at 5 Euros each. You can get a taxi back from the marina to apartments at night for set price of 8 Euros. We did this at night as the roads back were not very well lit up going back up the hill. We flew into Gibraltar rather than Malaga. So easy to get a taxi. You walked about 100 metres from airport to the right, went through frontier (no-one there) and taxi rank was just on the right. The taxi cost 42 Euros and it took 20 minutes to get to apartments. From Malaga it is about 1 and a quarter hours. We really enjoyed our holiday and would definitely come back. If you are looking for 5* accommodation then El Goletto is not for you but for the price paid for the apartment we had no reason to complain - certainly good value for money.
