“An Oasis of calm and relaxation”
Reviewed 11 July 2013

Thankyou to Satur, Juan Luis and Maria, plus all the other staff who make this little haven so welcoming. Its a gem, not 5 star but perfect in every way, if you want a calm relaxing holiday with great people, staff and surrounding. Walk to Mahon or Es Castell to the pretty bay of Cala Fons, Hire a car, get the bus. Whatever floats your boat. My husband Mat and I aren't sunbathers, so walked most days, got great tams and exercise to boot! Found a number of little gems to dine or drink at. The hotel is fascinating, full of history. Charming simply charming.. If you want 5 Star luxury, then dont bother. this is a simple hotel, with excellent service. Not a tv in any room, which I am grateful for. Food is simple but plentiful! We had a number of the laughs with Maria, Juan Luis and Satur, whose dry wit and cheeky way made me smile each day. I stupidly left a very pretty shoe at the hotel. Rang nect day, lo and behold they knew what I was ringing for and I am just awaiting its return!! See you next year, with one or two friends. Thankyou to everyone for making us so welcome xx Christine and Mathew Walters

Room Tip: Depends what you want, If sun and pool are your thing ask for a room by the pool, if history is more...

Super little hotel in a delightful part of this lovely Island, hotel staff are very good at what they do and Monsay is a star if you like Sangria!!!!! Breakfast is basic but does the job and the hotel itself is spotlessly clean and fresh towels every day in your room is a real bonus, Great places to eat in Mahon or Es Castell which are both 15 minutes walk from the hotel or 5 minutes in a taxis ( about 5 Euros each way). Enrique the hotel owner is a great chap as are all the staff so if you want some info just ask anyone of them about anything and they will sort it for you, thanks to them all for a great week, we will be back later on in the year.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 32 which was lovely and cool all day as its shaded with the surrounding pine trees...

My wife and I stayed here during the last week of June 2013. As the hotel is almost equidistant ( a 10 to 15 minute walk) from Mahon and the delightful harbour side of Es Castells it is a great location for those who want poolside relaxation during the day but a huge range of restaurants in the evening. The Almirante is ideally suited to middle-aged and older couples (many of whom seem to be repeat visitors) and is not really a place for younger adults or children. The staff are faultlessly friendly and helpful. It is wrong to single out one of them for special praise but Satur the tennis-playing bar manager is a star. Watch out, though, his humour is as dry as his gin! Breakfasts are very simple, but the snack meals and filled rolls at the bar are great! If you get a chance to go on the Es Castells walk with the local guide, do it, it is really interesting. Señor Montinari, Collingwood House's owner is passionate about his house and its history: take his Tuesday guided tour.
We hope to re-visit in 2014. Thanks to Satur, Maria, Enrique and all for making our first visit so memorable.

We are pleased that this hotel has kept its character and has a good continuity of returning guests.
Don't go if you want 5star service 24 hours or if TV is your thing but that said, if you like peace and quite and a no fuss life stye balong with a bit of history, good value and super friendly staff, we think you will enjoy your stay.

Room Tip: We like to stay in the old house room 7 is quite small but has a lovely view and is adequate for sho...

A short trip from airport or the town of Mahon brings you to the flower-lined lane to the hotel, and an earlier time (but one with modern plumbing.) The rooms are clean and comfortable, if a bit on the basic side. Ask for a sea view, or for #7, where the ghost of Admiral Collingwood is said to appear. Enjoy the setting, with the view over Mahon's magnificent harbor, the pool, and the tennis court. Your fellow guests will be mostly British, of a certain age, with whom you can enjoy a drink at the lovely terrace bar and share stories of exploration of this peaceful and historic island.

This is our second time of visiting this hotel the last time was 25 years ago. It is a brilliant little gem. We wanted time out and were interested to see if it was still as good as it was then I can only say I think it has improved. The staff are brilliant so friendly, helpful and willing to do anything to make your stay that little bit special. Whilst away it was my birthday and the Manager went to the local florist to get a bouquet for my husband to give me such special service deserves a mention. It is a hotel that has a lot of history and if like us you are not wanting a tv in your room, lots of evening entertainment then this is the place. Other customers we met had been coming back time after time and one lady had celebrated her 25th year of visiting I can understand why. The evening food is interesting and plentiful with always offers of seconds. If like us you are looking to sample the Spanish food then it certainly caters to that and some interesting choices await you. It will be a pleasure if given the opportunity to visit this hotel again hopefully not waiting another 25 years.

Room Tip: Room 42 had a fab view of the harbour and was out of the sun in the afternoon was also around the po...

Arrived back home on friday afternoon.
We booked a short notice b & b 7 day break at the collingwood- didn't really know what to expect-we just needed a break from work. Well what a find-this place is just great, we were greeted by genuine and very friendly staff. Our room was between the pool area and gardens, cleaned with fresh towels every day this place spotless It is an easy walk into Mahon and es castell where we found good quality tapas bars and great fish restaurants. Plenty to to do and explore-glass bottomed boat trip was very interesting regarding the history of minorca and Mahon. Buses service and taxis are all reasonable priced to get around the island if you do not wish to hire a car. If you are a gin drinker try the local tipple - while sat on the patio taking in the evening sun---urmmmmm and chill.
You will not be disappointed-we would like to return at some point- one great place.
