Can't really pull fault with this Hotel or Location.

I'll list the Pros

Discreet location, don't be fooled into thinking you've made a mistake when you first arrive, this Hotel sits in a quiet back water... But overlooking the bay of Mahon, a Contemporary designed Hotel which actually feels like a Cruise Ship which is permanently berthed in Port, complete with its amazing Roof top Sun Terrace, a cooling breeze at times very welcome ! jacuzzis .. and .. Always a sunbed available ! Amazing views over the bay.
Lovely promenade walk in front of Hotel ( no cars ) a leisurely stroll takes around the point to the Amazing Calesfonts Harbour, if you like a traditional Spanish feel .. You'll love its charm, restaurants and bars most of which are partly caves hollowed out of the rock face.
10 mins and approx 8 Euro by taxi to Mahon, the Harbour front at night .. Worth a visit.

THE HOTEL
Staff in all areas can't do enough, 5 stars to Nuria, Marga, Monica, Mariona and Bobbx
Rooms are modern, beds comfortable. Daily cleaning an impeccable standard.
Food always good, varied, and at times near Gourmet standard !
Enclosed pool area with sliding roof .. great for cooler days
Central lower ground pool area quiet with shaded areas if you want.
All inclusive for us good value with not many restrictions.
Evening entertainment most nights in the ground floor lounge ... a duo or group, or if you want different, a DJ on the roof terrace playing cool laid back music until late.
Hotel is Adult only and is quiet in all areas, I would say no matter what age you are, if you have a young approach to accepting a change to a modern contemporary setting you will fall in love with this place. We are a couple early 50's ... and found that this place has the ability to strangely make you feel young again ( point of note .. This is the first time we have been away as a couple since our kids flew the nest ... So for us Adult only status was an attraction. If you're looking to rediscover your selves again .. Then quite simply there isn't a better place ! )

Worthy of its 4 star credit.

Cons

No full length Mirrors in bedroom !
Could do with More drawer space ( not a big deal )
No beach ... if you want one .. It's a 10 / 15 Min Drive.
Wi Fi poor in bedroom / ok in main Hotel areas ( free )

TOP TIPS
Ask for sea view room all are north east facing ... So no Sun in day .. But great view,
Pool views, some south facing for Sun, but not all.

Hire a car for a couple of Days .. See the island.

Room Tip: Sea View rooms best

This is a beautiful hotel in a lovely location, Amazing rooftop with chilled ambient music late at night. I loved the area this was in , Cala Fonts is one of the best looking harbours I have come across in the med without being really "known" just gorgeous, very Spanish vibe. A super modern, beautiful interior let down by a few small niggles that I am sure they can fix easily if they choose to do so, Wi fi in room is hopeless but good in lounges, personally I felt the restauarant had too much of a cafeteria vibe in terms of decor, although it does have a nice outside section (but was pretty bright and hot in July) I wouldnt have wanted to be all inclusive here, but why would anyone with CAla Fonts on the doorstep? Just book hotel and flights , its not rocket science, easy jet and a variety of hotel booking sites does the trick! Lounge area although really beautiful gets a bit hot, due to glass roof. Maybe look at blinds or stronger air con in that area. There is a charge for towels and safe, but most of the charge for safe is a returnable deposit and for towels, I must make clear this is in "addition" to whats in your room. Some have made it sound as if they charge for "all" towels". This is a lovely hotel if you want a super modern and pretty funky hotel in a beautiful location and can do without a beach nearby, also really good if you want to go into Mahon as cab is only 8 Euros and 10 minutes to airport. I suspect that some who didnt like it may be older as I heard rumblings from several couples in 60's about lack of drawer space (there are big open shelves) . This hotel also had a really good mixed clientele in early July and although all adult--wasnt at all "old" which I liked even though we are early 50's.

Room Tip: we had a side sea view room which only has a tiny balcony, to be honest I couldnt be bothered to que...

Good hotel in a good location. Well renovated rooms with comfortable beds. Shame they charge for pool towels and safe without mentioning it in the brochure. WiFi good in lounge but not in rest of hotel.

I wonder if we went to a different hotel from those who heap adverse criticism on this wonderfully located facility, which is half a stone’s throw from the sea with incredible views from both rooms and the roof terrace.

I have read that the same food was served every breakfast time; I agree but wonder just what dish could be added as everything I have ever had for that meal was available. Variety could only be achieved by taking dishes away but perhaps the addition of chips for the more discerning palette is implied. In my view, leisurely eating this meal (and dinner) al fresco at the water’s edge overcomes any perceived shortcoming.

I have read also that modernists like to drink their red wine chilled and complain that it is always served at room temperature. Perhaps a simple request for one of the many ice buckets available at the time rather than criticism of the service and efficiency of bar staff on returning home might more effectively address the issue.

To those that suggest that ‘room tariffs are not for the faint hearted’ perhaps like us,they should have booked when 30% off deals were available only 6 weeks weeks before we travelled.

Of course there are faults of the type that insufficient drawer space is available but I wager that if the management is up to scratch, this is one matter that will be resolved without breaking the bank.

This hotel seems to polarise opinion; all guests that I came across rate it as superb whilst some others, perhaps serial review writers take the opposite view.

Room Tip: Take a high sea facing room and you will never want to go home

The staff are very helpful, location is quiet and relaxing, yet a short walk to the harbour only. Thoroughly recommend it as an adults only retreat. The food is fresh, bar service excellent and the staff work very hard to make you comfortable.

What a missed opportunity...a fabulous roof terrace bar at the Barcelo Hamilton in Es Castell, Menorca - but my recent experience was more style over substance...
Bar staff incapable of getting an order right...not what I'd call an extensive cocktail menu...no appreciation that some people drink their red wine chilled these days...it's no longer all about room temperate Rioja. Music, quite cool - but just too loud for the clientele - so more 'awareness' of the customer would really help.
We visited after dark - and it's a cool venue. I'm told it's a truly amazing view during the day.
Sadly, supposedly a four-star hotel but lacking in too many areas for my liking.

Situated on the waterfront of the Port of Mahon in the very beautiful area of Es Castell, the Barcelo Hamilton has an impressive ultra-modern design with scenic views over the bay. The hotel is ‘Adults only’. Great facilities at this hotel include 2 swimming pools and a luxury ‘sky terrace’ on the roof which also has 6 Jacuzzi’s and numerous sunbeds; all staff encountered were extremely polite and helpful.
The rooms were spacious and comfortable, of modern design and included a king size bed and a white leather sofa and elegant soft furnishings, further complemented by a good ‘controllable’ aircon system. Satellite TV was available but reception somewhat temperamental for BBC/ITV/Sky channels. This was compensated for by the in room free wi-fi. The only drawback to the room and furnishings was insufficient drawer storage for clothes!
The restaurant/dining areas have internal and al fresco seating, again with some stunning waterfront views. The food is ‘buffet style’ with a hot station for morning eggs and evening fish and meat. Whilst to my mind, the food was adequate, it seemed to lack variety and overall quality of the experience did not really live up to the hotel’s four star accreditation.
This hotel will possibly appeal to the more mature tourists, but for all its glitz and glamour, we found it somewhat lacking in character and ambience. The room tariffs are not really for the faint hearted!
