“Consistently Good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2014 via mobile

The first question asked at the poolside tends to be ' Have you been here before?'. This reflects the loyal customer base of Apartamentos El Sombrero. The 40-odd apartments range from studios to two bedrooms. Spotlessly clean and no-frills. The most technical gadgets are the kettle and toaster. No air conditioning. A TV can be hired for €25/week (no BBC/ITV) and wifi is €15/week. The pool area has adequate sunbeds and parasols and the snack bar is open from 11am. Reception staff speak good English and very helpful in answering queries.

The apartments reflect the quiet nature of the resort. Los Gigantes is a one way street of restaurants, bars and tribute acts. This is not the place of all night partying. The harbour offers boat trips of whale and dolphin watching, plus day trekking packages.

First things first. Los G is a quiet family resort bang on the coast and smug up against the cliff which give it its name. If you want the traditional sun, sand and sex with added alcohol and clubbing until dawn, go elsewhere.

We had a 2 bed appartment for a family of four. Loadsaroom. I suspect that we'd have been Ok with a one bed but I like the space. BIG balcony and very quiet. Clean and comfortable and v well located for the town, bus and a mere 5 mins to the narbour (10 mins back mind you). Supermarkets 5 mins walk in both directions. Can't tell you the price - we booked a package via Thomas Cook - but very reasonable.

Juan (the manager) has v good english, v helpful and a Nice Guy. Pool small but fine for the kids and as there are only 42 flats not too crowded. Good friendly vibe.

My only gripe was the lack of kitchen equipment/cutlery/plates. These are self catering flats and it don't cost much to make sure there is a decent set of kit (I mean - one egg cup?). There is an Ikea on tenerife after all.

No TV (but you can rent one). Up to you whether this is a plus/minus. Wi-fi you pay for. We hired a car with v little hassle via their associated company.

as to Los G itself - whale watching; about 30 mins drive to Aqualand/Siam Park; 45 mins drive to Mesa (including the longest 10 mins of your life). Some nice tapas bars (and the usual Brit pubs if you must). Ok black sand beach. A good base for a young family.

we'll go back.

Just got back yesterday from 10 days at El Sombrero, cannot fault these apartments in any way, spotless clean!! The only blight was the kids 2 Scottish families - who were hell bent on playing with lilos and balls in the pool, never mind about the rest of us sat around the pool reading etc. One kid leapt into the pool and splashed this lady's Kindle!! Not good and parents were hardly around to control them - oh well one of the cons of going when the kids have just broken up from school. Other than that a really fantastic holiday. Can't wait until we go back in September for 3 weeks. Roll on September. Many Thanks to Juan Antonio and Pedro you both do a fantastic job.

Room Tip: Try to get a room (if possible) on 1st floor, the views are outstanding.

These apartments are in the beautiful resort of Los Gigantes which has stunning views and a harbour that is a stunning back drop to the holiday. Everyone we met were returning visitors. We were well looked after and felt at home on day one. No night clubs or booze cruises here! Whale and dolphin watching trips are highly recommended. The large supermarket five minutes walk up the hill makes life easy!

Arrived back Sunday after a week in the El Sombrero. We can't really fault the place for the price you pay. We booked a studio but were given a one bedroom apartment. They are cleaned regular, everyone who worked there were friendly. Tipsy Terrace, and the Wine Bar worth trying for evening meals. If you like English breakfasts try the Ocean Drive bar/cafe run by Richard & Claire, very friendly and helpful. It's down the hill on the left hand side towards the Oasis.

Room Tip: We had room 30,only problem is the big tree in front of the balcony. It could do with a trim on the...

Myself and my partner just returned yesterday from a week at the El Sombrero, and for what we paid (£650 including flights from Newcastle) we found it to be very good value for money. The Apartments were very basic but immaculately cleaned and spacious enough for what we needed. The balcony was sufficent with a table and a couple of chairs, we were in room 35 overlooking the road which yes there was a bit of traffic noise but we never had any problems sleeping after filling up on the sangria!! And this room also provided us with a lovely sea view. The pool area was lovely and peaceful and again very clean. The snack bar provided enough options for you to not have to leave the area once you were settled and as the previous reviews have stated the sangria was delicious! The staff were all friendly and the location was perfect for our trip. We did not include the transfers within our package I think it was going to be £75 for the 2 of us on a coach transfer return but giving that its about a 45 minute transfer direct we couldnt be bothered with all the drop offs to other hotels and got a taxi there and back which cost E120 return and would definately do this again! We would return to these Apartments if ever in this area again.
