“Fantastic Hotel With Stunning Views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2014

We have just returned from a 10 night stay at the Royal Sun Resort and we already want to go back. The hotel is in a stunning location with views across the town of Los Gigantes, the harbour and the huge cliffs. The hotel staff are ALL extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are large, well equipped and cleaned daily. The balcony is vast with sunbeds. The pool is clean and there are plenty of sunbeds and parasols. Although located at the top of the hillside, it's a pleasant walk down into the town (there's a short-cut which runs down the hillside opposite the Colonial Park Hotel). Walking back up the hill can be a struggle, but there are plenty of taxis available which cost around £2 to run you back. The hotel also provides a free shuttle taxi which is helpful if you happen to be leaving the hotel or the town at the scheduled time.
The hotel does provide hospitality for a regular delegation of Russian visitors, but that didn't really have an impact on us. We just chose not to eat in the hotel restaurant on the nights the entertainment was specific for the Russians. When we did chose to eat in the restaurant, the food was excellent and was served on the terrace with the views across the town.
I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. When we return, we will definitely have a hire car as the town is small and has limited shops and restaurants, but there are plenty of places to visit if it's a first trip to Los Gigantes.
For anyone reading this having booked the hotel, we are very envious as we are sure that you will have a fantastic holiday.

Room Tip: All rooms have stunning views. If only 2 travelling, I'd recommend a 1 bed rather than Studio.

The only reason we chose this hotel was because of the reviews on trip advisor so I thought I would give a review myself.
Arrived late to the resort (we drove to the hotel and took a wrong turn, ended up going the long way round to Los Gigantes - those roads are tight!) and we were greeted by a friendly gent at reception. Checked in and we went to the room. The room was big with a fully kitted out kitched, 1 sofa, couple of chairs and a massive balcony. The bed was super as well as the massive bath and power shower.
Next morning we opened the curtains onto the balcony and all we could see was endless ocean. Absolutely stunning. The hotel itself is built into the mountains of los gigantes and looks over the entire town.
Breakfast was great each morning (Jonathan was a top guy). I would highly recommend renting a car as we ventured round the island a couple of times. We went to Garachico (i think), which was beautiful.Driving up the mountain is an experience in itself. Also recommend the car as the walk up to the hotel from Los Gigantes is tough enough but its only a couple of euros in a taxi if you end up blocked!
Los Gigantes itself is full of ex pats and the town let me down a wee bit. For such a lovely port town I just wish the restaurants were a bit more diverse in what they offered. Instead it was very much 'typical british' menus. In hindsight, we should have went half board as the hotel food was lovely.
Back to the hotel - if you're loking for entertainment each evening then I wouldnt stay in the hotel, there was someboy juggling one night and then there was some dodgy Russian Karaoke a couple of nights. I Had no idea what the hell they were singing but they were loving it. I asked if I could do Elvis Presley, and the DJ looked at me as if I had two heads. lol.

In summary - hotel was excellent, rooms cleaned daily, every room has the stunning view, rent a car as the town is a bit limited with its offerings, also take advantage of Andy the masseuse - the guy beat the living hell out of my back on the last two days and I felt great - perfect for the flight home. Perfect place for a relaxing chilled out break!

Room Tip: All rooms have the view!

This hotel has great views from all balconies overlooking Los Gigantes and the harbour. Staff are friendly and very helpful, Maria in reception is extremely helpful.
Rooms are spacious, a little dated, but that didn't bother us, balconies are huge, nice pool area, hotel supermarket was pricey but aren't all hotel supermarkets, we found a Supermercado Transito on Calle Petunia, walking distance from hotel, don't have to go down the hill and competitively priced, don't make the mistake we made when we first arrived, by going down the zigzag path to the Supermercado Los Gigantes on Av Jose Gonzalez Forte, everything was double the price and the service was poor, and struggling with shopping back up the hill, exhausting!!
The rooms are well equipped with fridge/freezer (that actually keeps things cold) dish washer, microwave, oven/hob, coffe maker, toaster and kettle.
Breakfast was okay, got a little repetitive, the hot buffet was not very hot, I ordered the mushroom omelette most mornings from the buffet menu, you can walk down and get a breakfast from Tipsy Terrace which is what we did a couple of mornings to break the monotony, we also made breakfast ourselves a couple of mornings and ate on the balcony soaking up the view.
Can get a little hot in the rooms due to no air con, especially at night.
Some of the restaurants in the area were a little disappointing, very basic menus, went to Wine bar and Terrace, nice place, nice views, they were offering Sunday roast but all you could smell was stewed veg, starters a little 70's, still enjoyed the ambience and the staff were all friendly. Mamma Lucia Italian was good at the top of the hill, good food, very friendly staff, ask for Silvia or Stefano. We talked football with them due to the World Cup being on, quite a debate!
We went to Los Cristianos last year and foung the restaurants better there, more choice, we found you went from one restaurant to another here and they all offered the same. Tipsy Terrace was 'Resting' up to July 10th, so was only open limited times.
All in all a good holiday, excellant hotel but will try a different area next time.

Room Tip: Our room was No 123 just above reception, we found no problems with noise from reception or the stre...

We have just come back from a week away at this brilliant hotel celebrating my wifes 30th birthday.

This hotel is stunning. Its immaculately clean, has outstanding staff and service and the views just cannot be beaten.

I mentioned before arriving that it was such a big birthday and we were greated personally by the hotel director with champagne, chocolates, roses and candles all complimentary. She was lovely and couldnt have made the start to our holiday any better!

I dont want to over sell this hotel because if it becomes filled with package holiday tourists it will lose its charm and tranquillity - the same can be said for Los Gigantes. Its managed to avoid the tourist trap but still ticks all the right boxes.

We only ate at the hotel for their breakfast buffet. It is great and once again faultless staff make the dining experience that bit more memorable - a special mention must be made for 'pedro' the barman.

Places to go - head for Tipsy Terrace during the day, and move down one for the Wine Terrace in the evening.

Things to do - make sure you go to the marina and get yourself booked on a RIB boat tour. We went with masca tour - its the first one to the right - only 4 of us on a RIB hurtling through the ocean, within touching distance of the dolphins and whales - far better than any of the big operators.

Hire a car - Santiago Car Hire are english and cheap. Pug 206 for 2 days was 70 and 75 for 3. Make sure you do Tiede by yourselves - its not worth paying for the Thomson excursions. Its also worth dropping in on La Ortova and Puerto De la Cruz which are both historic towns.

Back to the hotel - closing comments are, be realistic... this is not a brand new hotel, and yes russians are encouraged to buy timeshares here so there are a lot of them... the hotel is russian owned after all. I found that they mainly stayed together but i can imagine if you spent all your time in the hotel they would become antagonising like any other group would.

Book here if you want to relax and have a cheap holiday - los gigantes was far cheaper than the rest of the island for food, drink and excursions and the hotel is perfect.

We had two weeks in this lovely hotel. We found the staff pleasant and the hotel is kept beautifully clean, the apartment was huge and with a massive balcony which has wonderful sea views and almost total privacy and with our own sunbeds there was no need to use the pool sunbeds. We were self catering and cooked our own breakfast and lunch but usually ate out in the evenings. We arrived late after a delay at 10.10pm and the restaurant closes at 10.30 however, the staff were brilliant and let us have a meal, however, as it was the first day of the new menu we could not choose from the whole menu, the steak we had was beautifully cooked and the ambience in the restaurant was nice, with waiter service, but thought it was a tad expensive compaired to restaurants in the resort. Down sides ? not many, the bathrooms are huge with large circular baths which are slightly difficult to get in and out off as get slippy, due to the shape of the bath the shower curtain does not keep all the water in and both the tiled floor and the bath get very slippy so care must be taken, I was slightly put off by the sight of the cleaner standing in the bath to clean it wearing her outdoor shoes though, and she also put my shower cap on the biday so did not use the shower cap again. The apartments are very comfortable and have a well stocked kitchen if you do want to cook. The shop on site stocks all the essentials and is slightly more expensive than the local supermarket which is a 20 minute walk away, but the hill is very very steep, and unless you are very fit or use the free taxi which runs every half hour during the dayuntil 6pm and is provided by the hotel, The entertainment was very basic, although Brenda the animation host was very enthusiastic and with a bubbly personality made sure no one was left out and had a cheery word for everyone. There did seem to be a private party during a Sunday afternoon during our stay, and the singing band although very good was very loud and disturbed the peace and quite for over 4-5 hours and with children attending this party using the pool it did make it a bit of a no go for the hotel guests. The resort itself is very hilly, a lot of the local businesses were on holiday and closed so the resort was quiet. We went out on a couple of boat trips to see the dophins and whales and cost between 20 euro and 15 euros. All in all love the hotel but did not like the resort which feels a little run down, and not a fan of black sand but expected it as read about the resort before we went. The only real bad point was on the last day, as we had a late afternoon flight back we wanted to keep our room and make the most of the last day, this was spoiled as the hotel manager would not let us know if we could keep the room until 9am on the last day, this meant we still had to be packed up the night before as would have to vacate the room by 10.00am. We were able to have the room and did expect to pay for the priviledge, but it would have been much better to have been informed the previous day so we could have had a longer lie in and been more relaxed. Even though we paid to keep the room on, the cleaners came knocking and expected us to be out and the electric door key pad stopped working at 10am, so there was a lack of communication here. Tip, if you want to eat out try El Pozo in the resort as their steaks are amazing with good friendly and helpful staff.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view, the higher the better view, 3rd and 4th floors handy for the pool

I won't repeat all the positive comments that people have made on here as I agree with most of them.

Lovely hotel, wonderful views from every apartment, clean and well maintained. Staff very obliging and friendly. We dined in the restaurant on several evenings and found the food to be very good. There is a minimarket where you can buy your own food and drinks etc, there is also a hairdressers, but I didn't use it so I don't know what the charges were like.

Like many others have mentioned the bathroom was huge with a circular bath but when using the shower it made for a very slippery surface, but you just had to watch your step.

The pool area was spotless, well maintained and a lifeguard was on duty every day.

The entertainment was a bit hit and miss - a couple of good singers in the restaurant but not much else to get excited about.

The location is at the top of a steep hill, but the hotel does provide a free shuttle taxi to the beach and back every 30 mins in the morning and hourly in the afternoon up to 6pm. Taxi's are plentiful in the town and cost approximately 3 Euros from town to hotel.

We booked with Thomson and the coach shuttle drops you at a turning circle which is roughly 100 yards from the hotel entrance, so you do have to carry your luggage a little way, however if you have difficulties I'm sure the hotel will assist you.

I would have given this review 5 stars but I can't because there was one element which spoiled our holiday a little and that was the huge influx of Russians and their overpowering rudeness. The hotel is geared up for more Russian visitors than either British, Spanish or German. They have no respect for other people, they are loud, bad mannered, and many of the children were appallingly behaved. Many of the children were unsupervised around the pool area and at a BBQ one small child was dragging her hands through dishes of salads etc, whilst her mother ignored her. Nice!

I'm not sure whether this hotel is really suitable as a Thomson hotel because of this - but The hotel on it's own is wonderful - just shame about a section of the guests.

We dined in several restaurants in the town - Tipsy Terrace is good for breakfast and lunches and has a nice laid back atmosphere. The wine Bar and Terrace is good for food, cocktails and they have good cabaret each night. There was also a restaurant on the corner of the harbour which was very nice (can't remember the name).

Did a boat trip on Flipper Uno dolphin and whale watch and saw both- highly recommended.

Also did a trip to Mount Teide through Thomson which was very good.

Room Tip: All rooms have the same sea view. Higher rooms have less noise. Aim for floors 4 & 5
