“Better than expected!”
Reviewed 26 September 2011

Holiday didn't start off as expected, 3 hour delay at the airport, had booked into the Bahia Apartments only to be told on arrival they had water leakage issues in some of their rooms and had organised for us to stay at their sister hotel..... Siesta Mar II...... but every cloud has a silver lining and for us the Siesta Mar II was better than expected.

We had a 2 bed apartment just for the two of us with rear balcony off one bedroom and a large terrace off the front living area. No air con but ceiling fans in both bedrooms with small kitchen area with useful fridge/freezer. Generally the apartment was basic but large, was clean and had plenty of storage space (and invaluable iron and ironing board).

The three not overly large pools (but adequate for the number of people as many go down to the beach across the road) were very clean and obtaining sunbeds was never an issue.

Nice large open air eating area near the pools for breakfast, lunch etc (although supermarkets and restaurants are only stones throw away)

Found the staff very polite and helpful.......although reception staff could crack a smile a bit more. Had an issue with no power in our apartment one morning, reported to reception and the maintenance guy was on our doorstep in 15 minutes.....very impressed with their effeciency.

In summary then we really can't fault the place taking it in the context as a base for your holiday.

My daughter and I stayed at Siesta Mar II in August with my friend and her daughter. My friend booked through icelolly.com so we didnt know what to expect only what we'd read on trip.advisor.co.uk. Well we couldnt have been more pleased. Our girls are 13 and 14 and they loved the three pools and slides as well as the beach and sea. There are a lot of steps down to the beach but the hotel does provide a minibus. Hire of the sunbeds/umbrellas is extortionate so take your own. My friend and I are mid 40s and managed the steps well. The apartment we stayed in was dated and a bit shabby but perfectly adequate. Aircon would have been nice but you get what you pay for. The breakfast was lovely - its a buffet with cereal, pastries, beans, sausages, bacon, eggs, fruit, coffee, tea, fruit juice, toast....you can have as much or as little as you like. There's a local village store and Spar which sell most things right next to Siesta Mar II. Cala n Porter itself isnt a big place but there are some lovely restaurants and an evening market about 3 evenings a week. There are pleasant souvenir shops. We felt totally safe and relaxed. If you fancy a trip around the island and dont want to hire a car (neither of us felt confident enough to drive on the left) then try the coach trip with Raphael Olives, he can be found in the Spar. What that man doesnt know about Menorca isnt worth knowing. We had a fabulous day seeing the island on a coach with a lot of interesting stops. Particularly enjoyable was the beautiful old capital of Ciutadella. So basically, provided you're not used to anything less than five star accommodation, I would thoroughly recommend this holiday. However, if its night life you're looking for, this wouldnt be suitable. We had a wonderful time and didnt want to go home.

We booked an apartment here through Owners Direct, with a company called Menoca Hols, who own several of the apartments. We booked despite mixed feelings, having read some negative reviews, as we just wanted a base and the pool looked great for our kids. When we arrived, the female staff were as charming-less and unwelcoming as others here have said. And they could not find our names on their list, despite us showing all our booking confirmation. One tense hour and several emails and phone calls later (thank God for smart phones) the matter was resolved. We WERE on the list- over the page........
Once in the apartment we were pleasantly surprised with it - spacious, clean, brilliant location and yes, basic. We could overlook the shabby bathroom, doors with holes in etc.The main problems would be easy to rectify and were just irritating- no soft lighting in the bedrooms, a gas oven with no lighter or matches (another trip to the spar) no oven gloves or basic kitchen equipment such as teatowels, dishcloth etc. It seems mean not to provide them when they know what our luggage allowance is, and who wants to spend their precious holiday money on cleaning equipment?!! That said, the location is brilliant for the centre of Calan Porter and for the beach, and our kids loved the pool at Siesta Mar- the water slides, the shallow, medium and deep pools and the rocks around to jump off into the water. You do need to reserve sun loungers and as there were no Germans when we were there, it was mainly the Brits getting up and bagging them! Beach was fab, steps a challenge but over quickly! Lovely clean sand and water, paddle boats with slides on, rock pooling (our kids friend found a baby octopus- amazing! )
If you want a hire car, we found Autos Amigo the best, next to the spar shop in the yellow booth- 60 euros a day and you could turn up first thing and book a car- 1st come, 1st served, when everywhere else said they didnt have any available- meant we could explore further afield once we dragged the kids out of the pool.
All in all, we had a fab holiday- love Menorca, enjoyed the resort and we would stay at Siesta Marr again- we'll just take our own kitchen stuff next time!

Just got hiome, Siesta mar apartments are what you would expext in minorca although the TV with BBC1 /2 and channel 5 wasnt expected. The 3 bed apartment was spacious and had ceiling fans in the bedrooms the kitchen cuopboards did smell musty. Breakfast was included and good choice served over two and half hours so plenty of time to eat, Its a nice location in what is basically a small quiet area although on a road,(dustmen collect at about 1am!) music in the bars is limited to midnight, Resort is ideal for familys and adults but not recommended for teens out to party, There are about a dozen or so bar/restaurants on the resort catering for most tastes, it is a bit hilly especially to the beach so any leg back problems think twice.I would certainly go back

I have just got back from my third time staying at these apartments. It is in such a brilliant location to the beach, shops, bars and restaurants. It's a 15 minute transfer from Mahon airport and the breakfast buffet is 5 euro. The pool is good too! There are water slides to keep the kids entertained. It is easy to get a sun-bed in the earlier summer months. I have visited here in August and you have to reserve in order to get a sun-bed. I felt really safe walking around at night too!

The rooms are spacious, have ceiling fans and really nice balconies. Just don't leave your towels on the balconies over night -if on ground floor- they will get stolen!

The only downside to it is the beach is down some really steep steps (approx 150 each way) and in the heat it can be tough. There is a free bus shuttle service that runs 3x a day from the hotel though! The restaurant is quite expensive though. Eat at Salamander or Sa Paissa, they're the best!

Have just got back from a week at these apartments with two friends. Didnt know what to expect as my friend took care of all the arrangements so was really pleased when we arrived. Less than 20 mins from airport, great size apartments, great size patio for sitting out and chilling and good kitchen facilities. Balcony on back of apartment as well, meant the provided airer was out the way. They are a bit dated but if you've been to Greece, then these are far better. Breakfast offers a really good selection of cereals, juice and cooked items along with pastries - but you need to be there at opeing to get the lush chocolate croissants. At 5 euros, it's well worht it. The only issues were the beds - more like campbeds, you cant move without waking yourself up with the creaking and they offer no support. I'd also imagine that the ceiling fan would be no good in hot weather although it did get to the mid 20's when we were there and we coped. We had a couple of issues with the electrics but they were sorted promptly. The pool area is bright and clean but the sun beds are not adjustable and they dont offer any brollies so there's very little to no shade. Again, not a problem for us but if the temperature rose, not sure we could have sat out there for long.
Cala n porter is a small resort and these apartments are central to everything you need. It was VERY quiet when we were there but this had no bad effect on our holiday. Most of the restaurants were busy, Sa Paissa apartments/bar offers entertainment every night and we had no trouble getting sunbeds either at the apartment or on the beach.
The beach is absolutely beautiful but down 190 steps. Only did it once before decideing on using the Siesta Mar courtesy bus! The cost of sun beds on the beach is astronomical. 2 beds and one brolly is 17e per day-extortionate. Cheaper to buy a lilo and brolly for 12e and use for the entire stay.
There are no tour operators that we could find to book trips. However a company called Servitravel advertise vis posters and Raphael the tour guide takes bookings at the Spar shop across from the apartments. For me, we took a risk, and booked and it was fab! I cant say enough about Raphael. It's his own business, since 1979 and he uses the same coach and driver for each trip. He really looks after you and what he doenst know about the island isnt worth knowing plus he's humourous. Long day but reallly worth it.Good lunch provided too.
Would defo go back given the chance.

Just got back from a week in Siesta Mar II and would highly recommend it. Yes there are some negatives, e.g. no air conditioning (not a problem in June but might be in August), the apartments are a little dated, the cupboards smell a bit musty (and so does the bedding that's stored in there) and the kitchen facilities are fairly basic. However none of these things caused us (two adults & a 2 year old) any problems. The apartments are big and comfortable and kept clean with maid service twice a week. We went HB and the servings were huge. The food is adequate but very limited for vegetarians. The staff were really nice (especially David in the restaurant who my little girl adored). The pools are a bit cold but bearable. The beach is fabulous - yes there are about 200 steps to reach it but my daughter climbed up and down them with no problems. The resort is fairly quiet but enough for small ones to keep entertained, particularly the trampolines/bouncy castle across the road (which we ended up spending every night at!). The bus service to Mahon is cheap and reliable and we went to the zoo at Alaior by taxi but I would recommend car hire if you want to see more of the island. All in all a great value family resort that I would recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: Ask for a poolside room to avoid noise
