Posada la Vieja Escuela
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 27 April 2014

Returned on a sunny but coolish day and sat in the glazed dining area looking up the valley. Had the menu del dia again with stunning bean and meat soup - flavour some and served to us in a large pot - far too tempting to fill up on it, then meatballs with fried egg and chips and the other main fried fish with salad. One of us had space for pudding - the arroz con leche which was creamy and delicious. Service charming and efficient. At euros 12 a tiny bit more expensive than others around here but worth every cent.

Found this hideaway tucked under a large and imposing mountain after coming over the Lunada pass (1350m) from the Machorras. It has a lovely glazed dining room looking up the valley, but a charming and very obliging young lady laid us a table on the shady verandah, on a balmy sunny day with not a sound to be heard. It is a lovely spot, and we started lunch with some drinks accompanied by a free jamon pinchos, then the menu del dia, which came with a pâté and fruit appetizer. The menu choices were limited, but the food was beautifully prepared. The salad starter was crisp and with huge hunks of tuna. One of us had meatballs, the other baby fried squid in a light batter. Not gastronomic, but beautifully prepared with fresh ingredients. Puddings - usual fare. It's open also in winter (except on Mondays - info they don't provide on their website). Would love to try it then, and sit looking over the valley. Lots of stunning walking and quiet rambles from the hotel. What a find.
