We booked lodge through Groupon.( And we got our money back full refund) Worst place I have ever seen on arrival told lodge not ready, and we could have afternoon tea in conservatory I think waiter used to work at faulty towers, his hands shook so much he nearly dropped cups etc.
Three cups four of us ! Waited over an hour, then we had to ask if lodge was ready.
Eventually told we had a upgrade to three bed lodge. Would have been nice to have extra bedroom, but bunk beds for over 50's? On arrival at lodge found steps broken, hot tub outside with broken cover and half full of dirty water and leaves.
Opened door to lodge .Well the smell of damp ! you would not believe, water ingress on two walls of lounge area.
Electrical heaters damaged not safe to use (believe me I am a electrician definately not P.A.T. tested).
Airing cupboard had vermin bait in it and smelled as if someone had urinated in it.
Kitchen cupboard also had vermin bait in it (lovely).
Dishwasher had probably never been cleaned.
Bathrooms disgusting, definately not fit for purpose.
Overall not a place we would wish to stay, so we didn't.
Complained at reception, think we would have got our upgrade £40 back until the very arogant manager arrived and said he would not give refund of any money.
Lucky for us we booked though Groupon, took a little while but eventully we had a full refund.

My wife and I spent three nights, dinner, bed and breakfast at this hotel last week and had a pleasurable experience. There were faults. Our en-suite bathroom had no hand towels and there was no shower. (only a small hand held attachment in the bath with no shower curtain). Later that evening on being asked by the hotel GM if we were satisfied with our room we advised her of same and extra towels were immediately supplied. Next morning we were upgraded to a much superior loch fronting room with a view which was stunning. Unfortunately again there was no shower curtain and the noise from an extractor fan in the kitchen below was clearly audible.
However enough negativity . :- The welcome given was first class.
The staff were always friendly and attentive
The food (using local produce) was excellent.
The hotel has a lovely lounge with log fire.
The setting, especially with the autumn colours, is exceptional.
Value for money?. Yes
Would we go again? Yes

Stayed in May. Great location, lodges reasonable but poorly equipped. Inadequate staffing and lack of customer focus. Lots of hiccups and got no breakfast after over an hours waiting. However, we carried on with enjoying ourselves by keeping away from the hotel itself. Thank goodness for the hot tub which eventually did work and kept the children entertained. My first groupon deal disappointment. But would not stay here again no matter how cheap which is ashamed because it is a great location & potentially the place has great potential. Perhaps there's been a change of management?

We came here on a Groupon Deal. For the price we paid (extra for a 2 bed lodge) we were really happy with the standard. Ok so there are improvement to be made but nothing I would tear them a new one for in my review. The Lodge was perfect for our needs as a base to go exploring the area, it even had a sauna in and a flat screen TV with freeview, kitchen and two bathrooms. I would definitely come back and use the lodges again.

Room Tip: The 2 bed Lodges are a home away from home

A lovely long weekend. A great base for sightseeing with the most stunning loch side views. The staff were friendly, pleasant and helpful. Super quiet room with super comfortable bed. Breakfasts were very good but evening meals just average although the service was faultless.

Having experienced a 7 night stay up at the Portsonachan Hotel I was pleasantly surprised having read some of the reviews on trip advisor. DO NOT BELIEVE ALL YOU READ!!! This hotel has stunning views that should not be missed. The staff at the hotel are welcoming and friendly. I ate in the restaurant 4 nights out of the 7 and the food was excellent and of a high standard my compliments to both chefs. There is a new General Manager in post who has her finger on the pulse and is making improvements which became evident during my stay. I would definately recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Room Tip: Loch Side Apartments have the most stunning views.
