Springfield Guest House
Ranked #11 of 12 Rothbury B&B and Inns
Reviewed 11 March 2013

We stayed at the Springfield for 3 nights in March 2013.

Although Danielle wasn't there to greet us, there is a sign up advising newcomers how to contact her and a phone with which to ring her. It transpired she was actually just outside when we arrived and she is lovely and very helpful!

The room itself was a good size. We had room 3 and in this room didn't experience any of the problems that some other reviewers had noted previously. The bed was really comfortable with good bedding and the feather pillows were better than ours at home!

The breakfasts were excellent (the sausage in particular was lovely) and cooked freshly to order. There were other options as well, such as porridge and cereals or fresh fruit (in addition to the full English if required) but we didn't try these.

The two things I would note (and these are only minor items) were that when we returned in the afternoons, the room could be quite cold. The heating obviously came on later as when we returned after dinner the room was very warm, but a bit of heating at around 4-5pm would have been nice as it was pretty cold whilst we were there!

The other minor thing was that when the room was advertised with Sky, I didn't realise it just meant the freeview channels. As it transpired, we hardly switched it on, but I did find it a bit misleading.

Finally, I didn't realise until we arrived that cards are not accepted. Cash only (although there is a cashpoint literally two doors away)... it wasn't a problem for us but it is handy to know in advance.

All in all it was a great stay. Rothbury is a quiet town, but it has some nice little places to eat and was a good base for touring Northumberland. We would definitely not hesitate to use this guest house again if we were looking for somewhere to stay in that area.

The bedroom was Ok but ,the bathroom was cramped.Sink waste pipe leaked so you could wash your feet while you cleaned your teeth !
Breakfast good.
We stayed in room on which is at the bottom of the stairs leading into the dining room. The floors are wooden so we were woken up at 6.40 AM every morning while early rising guests went to breakfast.Obviously this wasn't the owners fault ,but it didn't make for a relaxing stay !

I thought this b&b was awesome. The room was spacious and had all necessary amenities (plenty of tea, lovely sheets, very fluffy towels)
Breakfast was really good.

The staff are also awesome and very cheerful

Having previously stayed in Rothbury 8 years ago we wanted to return to this fabulous area. Whilst searching for a good b&b we found Springfield offering an incredible £40 per night for double b&b. Looking at previous reviews we decided to book. As we previously owned a guest house ourselves, we are more critical than many but believe we are objective. Danielle was not there when we arrived so we phoned and she told us to go directly to our room and she would catch up with us in 5 minutes. Danielle and Gavin are both very friendly and chatty and we were given advice on where to eat. Breakfast was good and it is always nice to see that it is cooked freshly to order. There are a couple of areas in our room that could have done with sprucing up but they didn't detract from the enjoyment or comfort. Having been in the business ourselves we wouldn't want to be running a guest house with a new baby and a school age infant, so the slight lapses are forgiveable. Overall we had a good few days and the value was excellent. When, not if, we return to the area we will certainly consider staying with Danielle and Gavin again.

This is hotel is excellent value. Rooms are very well equipped and clean. The breakfast is also very good. The hosts were friendly and offered good advice about things to do and places to eat. There is parking at the front of the guest house or in the street at the side.

Myself and wife stayed here a few years ago and it was excellent.we decided to have another 2 night break Wed 12/12/1, Thurs 13/12/12 and found it even better than before, Danielle offered us a free upgrade to the huge superior ground ensuite due to off peak, this room was best we have stayed in and we have been in quite a few over the years. The breakfast was superb and even had salmon as an option however full English was more than e regularynough for us and you can tell it was good quality and fresh.Don,t care what previous guests have said, believe me this is 4* and situated in a lovely part of Northumberland. We regularly report on Tripadvisor good and bad but struggle to find any negatives, £78 for stay was an absolute bargain.Gavin and dani very friendly and happy to help in anyway possible.

Room Tip: can only really comment on Superior room but it is a listed building in quiet area so we would have...
