We called in today for Sunday lunch the meats were good but unfortunately the potatoes and the vegetables were barely warm, and at £8.75 each poor value also £2.60 for a diet coke and £3.40 a pint of beer was a bit expensive too . I have marked the room's a 5 as we did not stay only had our lunch.

I did not stay at the Queens head I visited the restaurant on a weekend away with my partner, so this review is for the restaurant only and is no reflection of the accommodation.

I will start by saying that the menu as a whole looked excellent with a good selection of meat and fish on offer. My partner and I had a starter and a main and where not disappointed. I had the Black pudding fritter and poached egg and my partner ordered the roasted Goats cheese. Both where excellent! My main, chicken breast stuffed with Haggis and my partners Fishcake where very nice, although my vegetables looked a little ‘droopy’ but tasted good.
The main negative about the whole meal was the service we received, the waiter seemed very disinterested and my partner suggested, “Someone had been called in on their night off”. The restaurant was not busy as we had a very early booking but the waiter did not read us the specials board, I did not know there was one until I heard another waiter explaining it to her customers. Also when collecting our empty plate the waiter would sigh as if it was a bit too much for him, very annoying.
Overall, the food is of a good standard and well priced, but the service leaves a little something to be desired, I would eat there again if I could have another waiter!

Stayed at rothbury 14th and 15th Jan 2012.Did not stay at The QUEENS,but decided to have a meal their on Saturday evening, when I asked the Head Waiter if I could get a table for two,he said that there was'nt one available at the moment and walked away up the stairs.I asked how long it might be and with his back to me shrugged his shoulders and said 20 possibly 30 minutes but if I wanted to go in the bar and wait he would let me know.I did'nt stay it costs nothing to be polite,I had been in the bar having a drink and I found the bar person excellent.

I apologise profusely for the lack of customer service you received on Saturday evening, even though it was extremely busy in the Restaurant its a shame everything is spoilt by one member of staff with a thoughtless remark . Thank you for your kind comments regarding the bar staff.

My husband and I have visited a few times for meals. The menu offers a good choice - more than just typical pub meals - and they're always even better than they sound in the menu and are reasonably priced. The food is always presented nicely, the restaurant room is pretty and the staff are friendly. We really recommend a meal here if you're in the area.
