“Good stop over”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

We stayed at The Queen's Head for one night as we walked St. Oswald's Way. A nice place in the process of being renovated by the looks of it. Rooms were clean tidy and pleasant and the beds were comfortable. We had a really nice meal here as well and the service was excellent. Not a 5 star place but very good and will be a lot better when the renovation is complete. Rothbury is really a lovely little town.

We were booked into The Turks Head in Rothbury but due to a plumbing emergency we were moved to The Queens Head also in Rothbury. Didn't mind being moved but notice was the same day so planning an alternative whilst driving up the A1 wasn't an option.
The manager of The Turks Head texted a sincere apology and offered a discount should we choose to return at a later date which seemed generous given she had lost a booking...or so we thought - turns out both hotels are co owned so the offer was a little hollow given we wernt offered so much as a cup of coffee on arrival or in person repeat of the apology and up until arrival we didn't even know the rate despite texting back to ask!

However The Queens Head is an OK place but not remarkable. Our room was clean and the bathroom a generous size but there was no in room WiFi and the 17 inch TV with terrible reception wasn't much of a concelation.

Breakfast was very good and served with a smile so no issue there.

I enquired on departure if there was to be any discount considering the inconvenience but the same smiley man from breakfast pleaded ignorance of the last minute change and charged us the full £80.

In summary this is an OK place that shouldnt disappoint to much but its on the expensive end of the scale considering its a basic room above a pub making it a very tasty but costly breakfast.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It appears we have suffered a little through no fault of our own in that you were not happy to be moved. The Queens Head is not co-owned, we do have an interest in The Turks Head. I offered the room in good faith on the same terms as your booking with The Turks Head as you would otherwise not have had anywhere to stay. The accommodation is comparable, both above a pub, no wifi in room etc. I apologise that the Manager of the Turks Head was not there to greet you, but I am sure you found my staff to be very helpful and solicitous and as there is free tea/coffee/biscuits in all our rooms they would not have offered coffee as soon as you arrived.

I hope that you will take up the offer of discounted accommodation at The Turks Head when next in Rothbury.

I came across this hotel on a voucher site and decided to book the voucher deal plus 2 extra nights. Rothbury is a pretty Northumberland village with the National Trust property of Cragside nearby. The Queens Head is an inn with rooms. The room was lovely and the food very good. we ate there all three nights. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We will revisit.

We stayed using a Groupon we were greeted with a warm welcome and shown to our twin room which was very clean with immaculate bedding and towels and an ample supply of tea and coffee. we ate our evening meal in the restaurant we chose the pie of the day which was steak and ale it was full of very tender meat and we both cleared our plates. The sticky toffee pudding was the lightest I have tasted and melted in my mouth. My husband really enjoyed the real ales on offer. The beds were really comfortable and the room was quiet with no traffic noise until after 7 am. Breakfast was excellent with good quality cereals etc and locally sourced cooked produce. My request for the scrambled egg with smoked salmon and to try the sausage from the Northumbrian full breakfast was met with no problem. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
Just wish the weather had been better as our plan to go for a walk alongside the nearby river had to be abandoned due to rain.

Yet another visitor care of Groupon. We have stayed in Rothbury on other occasions and have eatten in The Queens Head but this was the first time we have stayed here. The room was lovely and the bathroom was huge, both were spotless and the bed was very comfortable. The staff and locals were all very friendly, we ate in the bar as we were already settled there and didn't feel like moving into the restaurant. The food, as usual here, was very good. Plan on staying here again

My wife and I stayed at this hotel using a Group On voucher we received as a Christmas gift from one of our daughters. From the minute we walked through the door we felt at home. We were warmly welcomed by Alan who checked us in and showed us to our lovely room. The bar was warm and cosy and the locals were all extremely friendly. We ate a delicious meal in the restaurant and we were very impressed with everything about it from the lovely linen napkins, the very efficient waitress and the quality of the food. We slept really well in a comfortable bed and had a lovely breakfast in the morning. As a bonus after chatting with the owners after our meal we happened to mention an old friend that we had lost touch with and not only did they know him but they told us where he was and we were able to go and see him after we checked out. We will definitely be back for another break at a later date. Thanks to Terry and all the team.

Room Tip: Room 16 was lovely and very quiet.
