“Beautiful Caribbean Resort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2014

We stayed at the Marriott St. Kitts Beach Club in June 2014. June is the off season in St. Kitts and it was not at all crowded. The magnificent open air entryway yields glimpses of the Atlantic across a vast complex of pools, gardens and villas. The color of the walls and villas was a little tired looking but the interiors seem to have been recently updated and were colorful and full of the amenities one expects from Marriott. We had an ocean view villa and the vista from our second floor balcony was wonderful.

The resort staff were unfailingly helpful, caring and cheerful. My brother-in-law had a run-in with a golf cart and badly cut his ear. The staff went all out to make certain that he was comfortable and had a first aid kit on hand within minutes.

The concierge went out of her way to help us. One morning as we were about to hop a taxi downtown to attend mass she ran after us to advise us that mass at the cathedral had been moved to Brimstone Hill for Pentecost, saving us an unnecessary trip.

The beach chair layout is really nice, with permanent shading and plenty of beach chairs. The area in front of the beach is protected by two jetties but the wave action and wind were strong most days. Still it has a magnificent view.

There is an on-site casino, and action most nights was gathered around the slots, blackjack and roulette tables. I had a great time one evening taking with a table of veterinary students from the U.S.

St Kitts, I have been told, is very much like many other parts of the Caribbean were thirty years ago.
There appears to be some resort development going on south of Frigate Bay, but from Bassetere north the island retains a distinct flavor of times past. Many of the villages around the island suffer from extreme poverty, but the people are gracious, courteous and welcoming. I would definitely come back to St Kitts and the Marriott.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the pool area are quieter.

I just returned home from a week-long stay at the Marriott St. Kitts Beach Club with a friend, and couldn't have asked for anything more. In fact, I'm already looking for a reason to return!

We took advantage of a time-share exchange through Interval International, and booked into a 2-bedroom villa (building 9) on the 2nd floor. The view of the south pool and the beach beyond was great - incredibly quiet and peaceful. Coffee in the mornings or a short break in the shade in the afternoons, it may not have been an unobstructed beach view, but it was amazing none-the-less. The room was incredibly spacious, clean, and well appointed. We checked in on Saturday, and on Tuesday the housekeeping staff performed a 'tidy-up' service free of charge, replenishing towels, soap and more. In addition, beach towels were replaced throughout the week with a simple phone call.

We made sure to swing by the IGA (Supermarket) on the first day and stocked up on groceries which lasted us the majority of the week. For $100 per person, we covered meals for four full days, and breakfast for the entire week. (Don't be shocked by the prices when you get there - everything is in EC$)! The kitchen in the villa was more than adequate and well appointed with everything we needed to grill, roast, or blend.

Every staff member we met was incredibly friendly and outgoing, asking if we were enjoying our stay, and making sure we had everything we needed. The doorman remembered us every day and the housekeeping manager made a point of stopping to see us at the pool and making sure our villa was in order. The timeshare staff went out of their way to handle reservations for us and answer any questions.

Be prepared for a QUIET and RELAXING destination. While the resort has a fair number of activities and amenities, you'll find yourself with plenty of down-time. There's pool bingo, beach and pool volleyball, and that's about it. There's a few other 'kid-related' activities daily, but sunbathing is the #1 activity by far. The huts on the beach are fantastic, and we had no issues grabbing a chair by one of the three pools. Make sure to coordinate some off-property activities...

All-in-all, this was a great trip. The Marriott property was well maintained, clean, and comfortable. The staff friendly and helpful, and made for a restful escape.

A few tips and things to keep in mind when visiting St. Kitts and the Marriott:
- Taxi's add up quick. $16 from the airport doesn't seem bad, but $24 each way to the southeast peninsula means another $50 on top of whatever your plans are. Every taxi driver will give you his card or phone number and is more than happy to pick you up later. Remember, taxi's operate by set rates.
- The duty free shop on property is a great deal to purchase your alcohol and keep in your room for mixing drinks and bringing them to the pool. (Much better than $9 a drink at the bar!).
- The duty free shop down the street is even cheaper.
- The IGA is the main Supermarket nearby, good for all of your standard grocery shopping.
- Ramm's down the street is a convenience store where you can get the basics.
- "The Strip" is in walking distance and is at the base of TImothy Hill. Don't expect much during the day as most places are closed, but Friday nights are a buzz with locals.
- Local's hang out at the same places tourists do. It's a small island!
- St. Kitts is an EXTREMELY friendly island. Don't be afraid to go off the beaten path.
- The beaches on the southeast peninsula are best. They're busy on the weekends with locals, but dead during the week - it's like your own secluded retreat.
- Don't rush for an early flight out... If you're staying in a time-share, you have access to the spa facilities to shower and clean up even after your 10am checkout. It's not advertised, but be sure to ask!

Room Tip: Request a second or third floor room. Even the units that overlook the pools have great views, but i...

We stayed in the timeshare part of the St. Kitts Marriott and had a fabulous time. The room was well decorated and appeared new. The staff were all very friendly, especially Mikhail the bellman who took very good care of us. Pizza from Pizza Shack was as good as any pizza in the US. Food in Blu and Royal Grille was exceptional and the only complaint was extremely slow service in Royal Grille. Always a palapa available at the beach and the snorkeling was pretty decent. Not too much hassle from beachside vendors. I would suggest waiters be used on the beach for food and drinks to make dining easier. We would come back here without hesitation.

The resort sits on a great little island, on an absolutely spectacular beach. This place has the potential to be special, but the hotel property really misses the mark in a few areas.

Let's start with the pros: the property is specious, so even at 85% occupancy, the resort is not crowded; the beach with its 80+ cabanas is really awesome; the rooms (vacation club villas) are well appointed and comfortable; the staff is very friendly (always trying to make the guests happy); there is plenty of chairs at the pools (we never had to fight to find chairs); the Bohemian Grill is convenient and pretty good; the poolside entertainment is fun and very family focused; the front desk staff for the Vacation Club was great.

The cons: The hotel property is tired and needs a face lift; the pool water was filthy (they didn't have the skimmers on the entire week so there was lotion, bugs and other junk on the surface of the water. I brought this to their attention multiple time. Each time I got a different story. Bottom line ... the skimmers were never on and the water was disgusting); although the staff was very friendly, they were pretty slow; parking (if you rent a car) is very limited.

Overall we enjoyed our vacation and hope some of the hotel can make some improvements before our next visit.

As a MVCI owner we decided to try the St Kitts Marriott property for our 11 night break. The good- the resort and villas rooms are extremely spacious and up to the high standards of Marriott, very nice pools, a good gym and a super spa. The bad - poor internet reception, in the villas you need to be in the same room as the router to get a good reception. Around the hotel it is a very mixed reception. As it is end of season most restaurants on site are lacking the full range of wines from the list, it appears they only have one Chilean red and white, not sure this would be the same in high season. The indifference - although some staff are very friendly and embrace very high standards others are quite surly and should understand that they work in the hospitality industry. One real disappointment is you are asked for preference of room type before you arrive, making a high floor priority one only to be given a ground floor villa was unexpected and to be told we could move 6 days later when the resort was 20/30% full was a real shame.

Thank you for visiting Marriott's St. Kitts Beach Club! We appreciate your feedback on your stay with us. The service you described is not typical for the Marriott Vacation Club and we will follow up on this accordingly. While the resort cannot grant all villa requests, the right expectations should be set prior to your arrival as to not surprise you when you arrive. Thank you again for your feedback and we look forward to truly exceeding your expectations on your next stay.

We returned to the St. Kitts Marriott Resort for the 4th time in May, 2014. We had 2 villas in the vacation club area and we brought family and friends down to St. Kitts due to the wonderful times we have had in the past. I have to admit this visit did not live up to our expectations. There is a lack of night time activities now at the resort. In the past there was a martini bar with entertainment that you could enjoy if you so desired. When we questioned why the resort was so quiet we were told that the new manager feels that if you want night life you should go to the "strip" which is an area of bars and restaurants along the beach. In past visits someone in our party had their credit card compromised at the strip and at certain places did not feel comfortable. You would think that the hotel would want guests to spend their money at the resort.

The food at the resort was very good especially at Blu and we would recommend the lobster there. Most of the staff at the hotel were friendly but we didn't feel the level of customer service that we had in the past.
