L'Ermitage is a small boutique style hotel, offering a first class restaurant open to the public. The A La Carte menu is by no means cheap, but that simply reflects the standard of the food here. There are also, however, several set menu options including the Menu Bistrot which at €26 for three courses (or €29 for four) is excellent value for food of this quality. It was good to see that a childrens' menu is also offered at €15, a big help to those with families.
As well as excellent local ingredients, superb preparation and stunning presentation, the restaurant offers a few unusual choices for those who want to try something different, such as the excellent stuffed pigs tail entree, or the watermelon and basil soup. The steaks were fantastic and cooked precisely as requested, as was the chicken leg stuffed with cheese and mustard.
The restaurant, as you would expect given its location, offers an extensive wine list. We tried the local Chorey-les-Beaune rouge which proved to be excellent despite being one of the cheaper bottles on the list. The service too was excellent. All staff appear to be knowledgable about the food, are professional yet friendly and strike a perfect balance between attentiveness and privacy.
Finally, the location. Being just out of town on the RN974, this is easy to find/get to and offers plenty of parking in front of the impressive facade. The restaurant is set amongst vineyards on all sides and does offer seating on the terrance, although sadly this faces the RN974 which is about 50m away so would be quite intrusive. Pleased to say that eating inside one doesn't notice the road at all.
I would thoroughly recommend not only eating here, but staying as well - the hotel offers some lovely spacious rooms and suites with terraces overlooking the vineyards.
