“3 star is parfait for this Scotsman”
Reviewed 16 May 2014

The hotel was as stated 3 star. It should have been higher as the hotel and rooms were clean and comfortable. I only ate in the hotel once in the evening but would not do so again. Not because of the food, the food was extremely good, it was the service. The service was very slow and there were only 4 tables being served. I finally left the table close to 22:00. The breakfast and the breakfast area were first class.
The reason I think, that the hotel was only given 3 and not 4 stars was probably due to being close to the road. You need your car if you want to stay here. 10 mins drive can get you to the canal Midi at le Sommail. There you can walk forever by the banks of the canal. Also within a 30 min radius of the hotel, there are many pituresque villiages.Right across the road from the hotel is Chateau Cabezac Cave. Excellent wine at a reasonable cost. Yes I would go back to this hotel

Under New Management - Some construction and alteration about to take place!!
Good Location
Cool welcome - Room - very French - quite nice - comfy bed - good breakfast - we did not dine here but would think it is good

Room Tip: Ask for a non roadside room - on a main trunk route - traffic starts early!!

We order our rooms with a special rate with the owner and received an email confirmation. On booking out, the woman at the the desk had no information regarding this booking. Luckily we had a print out of our email with us to confirm the arrangement, it was very embarrassing for the receptionist and she aplogised. This establishment has seen a great turn over of owners in the recent past.

The person who welcomed us was very charming and friendly and gave us a choice of 2 rooms. I loved our room, it was stylish, but slightly quirky! The weather was very hot and La Bastide is an old building, but there was an air conditioning unit on the wall which had a remote control.
We ate dinner and breakfast on the pretty little terrace, and both were very good.
If I was looking for a fault the only one I could find was that the photo of the terrace looked somewhat different, rather bigger, but that is really just 'nit picking'!
If we are ever in that region again (quite likely) we would certainly want to stay there.

Room Tip: Our room was on the ground floor next to the pool so was quiet, I'm not sure I would want a room...

We returned this year and found it very disappointing. We had what they called a " junior suite" that was very expensive, it was really dreary shabby room, the shower leaked, tv did not work. Noise from the road was awful plus there is building work being done opposite which made it unbearable, I think we should have been made aware of this when we booked. The outside eating area is still very nice but the food was very expensive and very small portions . Another small gripe, when we booked in, we were asked "what time would we be down for breakfast and whether we wanted tea or coffee" both things I would prefer to decide in the morning when I am on holiday.
All in all very disappointed and would not recommend anymore.

We were very surprised after reading your review; in September our Hotel was like a film set and a few months after the rooms are shaby?

We haven't changed anything during this period, the restaurant has the same kitchen and the rooms the same decoration.

For your comments on the tv, we came directly to your room and it was only CNN who wasn't working, and unfortunately we could not solve the problem at that time. As for the shower, that was a problem we could have fixed right away.

Recently we had a national control and again we are classified as a 3 stars hotel.
Also the chains Chateaux&Hotels Collection and Logis the France who have high standards, have renewed their contract with us.

In September you had booked a room for 115 euros and we gave you an upgrade to a Junior Suite and in June you had booked a Junior Suite for 135 euros, so that would explane the differents in your bill, but for us not the differents in your comments

Our arrival was marred by a misunderstanding about our booking, which had not been properly recorded. However after a short wait (in fact a swim in the little pool) we were installed for one night in a wonderful apartment belonging to a neighbouring concern. Set in the shadow of a château that sometimes hosts noisy wedding parties, the bastide is comfortable, clean and quiet. Our room was charming. We took our meals in the restaurant and enjoyed them very much.

A pleasant hotel, with a comfortable seating area round the pool. Our room was reasonably sized, but we were at the front of the hotel next to the road - so there was traffic noise in the morning.

Menu du Jour was excellent, and it was pleasant eating on the Terrace. The Château next door produces some lovely wines, and after sampling with our evening meal, we called to buy some bottles the next morning.

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the side, away from the road. We couldn't as the hotel was full.
