It was pouring with rain and we stopped here for the night. Great food comfortable and spacious room. Just perfect. The food was local dishes prepared with care and extremely generous. Wine from Franche Comte just to tip it off. Room and bathroom were both clean, neat and contemporary.

Superb accommodation - lovely meal. All perfect for a one-night stop over through France. Highly recommend this family run hotel. We had been given room 11 - definitely go for it again. In most hotels they'd class this as a suite! For 70 euros, it was a perfect overnight stay. The food was great quality...just nice to drink a few bottles of wine and walk up stairs to bed!

Room Tip: We had room 11 - definitely worth it...lovely and large!

We were staying at the nearby Chateau de Villersexel, and the owners there reserved us a table here for an evening meal. It had a pleasant outdoor seating area, and attentive and friendly staff. The food was very good overall. We ordered a bottle of champagne, which was expensive but as my Wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary, it all added to make the evening special. We're not food connoisseurs, and are as happy eating in McDonalds as we are in A La Carte restaurants, but the food was moderately priced and tasty. It has to be said that with the British Pound being extremely weak, even a middle of the road restaurant ends up been very expensive to us. The only one part of the menu that we couldn't eat was one of the local cheeses. It smelt like a wet dirty dog to us, and tasted equally awful. Local taste buds must be somewhat different to ours :-) it was quite funny as we tried to eat it, something akin to watching a "Bushtucker Trail" on "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here" :-)

Despite the cheese, I would certainly recommend this place to eat :-) we had a fantastic time, and will have lots of good memories of our meal there.

Thanks for reading

I didn't know this hotel before I reserved. I was surprised at how fast rooms were going in this small town in the center of beautiful meadows and hills, so I grabbed one that seemed decent. The hotel itself is good looking and fits into the landscape. It is right on the Doubs river and adjacent to the center for water sports (a small structure to rent kayaks, canoes, etc.) and across the street from a small tourist office. Its surroundings are leafy and eating out on the terrace is a treat, especially in warm weather. The room, which was the last double available, was actually a suite of sitting room and bedroom. There were two toilets and two shower rooms in this suite; what a nice surprise. The rates were quite reasonable and the value very impressive. La Terrasse was spotlessly clean and the beds and linen perfect in my judgment. In the surrounding area to Villersexel are a number of sites from the Middle Ages, many outdoor sports opportunities, and the extremely interesting, for car enthusiasts, Peugeot auto museum. Some of the designs of autos from the twenties and thirties left me speechless with their flowing beauty. Dig into the offerings of this rural area before you go and be prepared to ride small roads among farms and villages. This hotel serves northeast rural France more than adequately. Using a GPS ;made the driving extremely simple, though without a GPS a good map serves the purpose. Some people in the area speak quite serviceable English. The dog mentioned in one earlier review is very quiet, clean, reservedly friendly, and unobtrusive and added some cheerfulness.

Room Tip: Number 8 is the suite I referred to above. There was a rural road fairly close but the noise was rar...

The Franche-Comte only has a low desity of hotel and restaurants. If you are in the Villersexel region, La Terrasse is a good choice. The menu is good but not all food is good. I recommend the magret de canard with fougerolle cherries. The winelist is ok and also I recoomend not to buy the jura wines (many do not like these) but the wines from Champlitte - very nice. The place has been refurbished inside just a year or two ago.

This is our 3rd stays in as many years; we travel every spring into the region to visit friends of my parents.
The reception is dependably friendly and accommodating. We always select the "demi-pension"; which means that we take the evening meal and breakfast while there. We also eat one of the midday meals there with friends.
The breakfast lady is always chipper and service oriented; she will do eveything in her power to provide us with a comfortable breakfast experience. Her sunny disposition sets the mood. The coffee is very good.
The other meals are better than average and the ingredients are of superior quality. The menus offers a fish receipe for every meal alongside traditional meat dishes. The serving crew is the same from year to year which is reassuring to the guests. However, after a few meals we have covered all the options and staying longer than 3 days would become repetitious.
The only negative: they have a yellow labrador who roams the place - albeit unobstrusively - and they have a beautiful cat called "Caramel" and he seems to like the guests' company. Animals in the presence of food are not conducive to carefree appetite for me.; but it may not be a problem for others.
Overall: this is a good place.

Room Tip: Room number 9 is the best we have stayed in. It looks over the garden and is quite roomy.
