I recently had the pleasure of staying here again. My first experience was so positive, it would have been hard to beat, but yet again, Marija and Arjan have outdone themselves! Since I was here last year, they have expanded the hotel to include new rooms as well as expand the dining room and I had the good fortune to stay in a large double, on the first floor. Marija has done a superb job with decorating and the room was huge as well as lovely. Everything is brand new, but they have seamlessly integrated this new portion with decor of the existing hotel. How difficult it must be to retain the ambiance of old world charm, yet provide modern day conveniences?! But they do it with charm and grace!

Monpazier is a lovely Bastide, which offers lots of shopping and dining options. I like it so much that, although I have traveled to many Villages in the area, I return here again and again.

Treat yourself to a lovely stay, lovely proprietors and a village with some of the nicest people you will ever meet!

Room Tip: I have stayed in both the Junior suite as well as the new large double. I was very happy with both!

I was so looking forward to staying overnight at my favourite hotel and it was wonderful. We have eaten there several times but had never stayed. We were welcomed by the wonderful owners and shown to our rooms (the kids decided to come too!). Both rooms were large and overlooked the beautiful countryside, the beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were large with great showers and amenities. The owners have recently renovated the hotel and added a new dining room and the previous dining room is now a lovely lounge with magazines to read. The new dining room and outside seating area is spectacular and I'm pleased to say the food was as excellent as it always is. Started off with a nice glass of champagne, followed by soup, duck and a wonderful cheese cake, finished off with an Irish coffee. Simply wonderful and this truly is a gem of a hotel with owners who can't do enough for you. Can't wait to go back when the weather is warmer and use that fabulous pool!

We had 3 nights at this lovely, luxurious hotel and it was wonderful. There was parking at the back of the hotel, which was helpful. (Be careful not to park in front of the elderly gentleman's house out the front!)The hotel is inside the walls of the village and there are a number of cafes to eat at, although a few were closed when we were there, possibly due to the cool weather. There are several bakeries and two supermarkets, as well. The hotel reception staff were very pleasant and our room, on the top floor, was just gorgeous. It was well decorated and the bed was comfortable. There is no lift so some travellers may need to request a room on the ground floor. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful hotel in Monpazier. It provided us with a wonderful spot to stay in order to explore this area of the Dordogne. We would heartily recommend it!

Room Tip: If you cannot manage stairs, perhaps request a room on the ground floor. Our room on the top floor was lovely!

Monpazier itself, a perfectly preserved medieval bastide town, is well worth a visit itself, but our stay at this lovely refurbished chateau just outside the city walls was the jewel in the crown. The hosts could not have been more welcoming, warm and friendly (even coming to our aid when we mistakenly parked in front of an elderly gentleman's house and he glared at us until we moved!). New rooms and a dining room have just even added and everything was perfect. Our room overlooked the valley and was large, modern and comfortable. We opted for "half board", which consisted of a delicious 3 course dinner(and you can switch choices on the set menu if you wish) and breakfast the next morning, equally delicious. We were traveling with three other couples and our assessment was unanimous---a real "find" and a simply perfect stay. It was our last night in France (as we did not count the actual last night at an airport hotel) and our warm and gracious hosts made it a very special "au bientot". Thank you!

What a welcome home away from home. Our hosts, the Capelles, could not have been more gracious. We were travelling with three other couples, and we all agree that this hotel is a jewel. It was very clean and pretty -- light and bright. We all purchased the half-board (3-course dinner and breakfast) and were pleased with everything -- food, service and ambiance. I am trying to find a recipe for joues de boeuf (beef cheeks!) which we were served at Hotel Edward 1er. Really good comfort food that was! Parking was easy. Our party of eight fit nicely into the cozy bar for an afternoon drink, served by a lovely young lady.
