“A gem in Monpazier!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2014

We stayed here for a few days for a wedding in the area and loved every minute - great location in a great little town, brilliant classical hotel for an authentic stay in the south of france. Great restaurant and bistro locations for options and a pool attached meant we had everything we needed for a little break. The hotel is run by a very friendly and helpful Dutch couple so we felt like we were staying at their home - cannot fault anything so recommend highly.

Room Tip: Be prepared for traditional charm - not modern technology. This was the beauty of the stay!

Monpazier is an amazing medieval city, the main place is like a Disneyland decor. Or Disneyland should be inspired by Monpazier main street... Edward 1er is without doubt the best hotel or choice in the immediate area... but could be definitely a destination in its own. Owners are nice friendly people making the stay great! Restaurant is a must try, staying or not in the hotel. Breakfast is the perfect one, not featuring a full range of average product but the right selection of natural and fine products! We loved it.

Room Tip: Visit rooms... those old places are always offering different type size and orientation... our tiny...

We stopped in monpazier for the night en route to Bordeaux. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The owner was very accommodating and helpful. Room was charming and had a bath to soak in. A shop in town sells Arnica Bath salts. Wonderful!! Great after walking so much! Bed very comfortable and quiet at night. We didn't dine in the restaurant but have heard it is very good. The little town has a beautiful square and the most wonderful roses I have ever seen.

My husband and I spent a magical few days in Monpazier at Hotel Edward 1er. The town is a medieval bastide which is beautifully maintained, and the hotel lies just outside the walls. It has been renovated and extended very tastefully and elegantly, and is a great destination for a restful few days or for walking, cycling or driving around the area.

Room Tip: All rooms are good, I like the view over the countryside rather than over the town.

If you want peace, good food, attentive service, a room with a view and a real taste of France in a beautiful bastide village, then you must stay at this hotel. The owners do an amazing job of looking after their guests, nothing is too much trouble and you will go a long way to find a place as special as this. The evening meal served in the newly built restaurant or on the terrace is sublime. Breakfast is typically French with croissants, meats, cheeses, juices, home made jams and coffee. There is a pool with plenty of sunloungers and two lounges inside the hotel to relax and read. We were sad to leave after spending a blissful three nights but will return in August and cannot wait!
