We inundated this beautiful place with an entire family reunion. All age groups and fussiness included. Every person who arrived left feeling relaxed and wanting more. The sunsets were breathtaking, and the hospitality inspiring. The cottage that we stayed in was decorated with the memories of days gone by, and reflected the history of the family. Don't take any books, read theirs!

I loved this special place and the hosts so much that I am considering having my renewal of vows there. If you are ever lucky enough to attend a function there, eat as much as you can! The memories of the food will linger longer than you expect, and entice you back along with the glorious scenery.

Following the directions in the Greenwood Guide, we found ourselves driving away from the N2 and into the dramatic landscapes of the Western Cape. Just as the wife was beginning to panic that we hadn't seen another soul for a long time, we arrived at the fabulous Honeywood Farm.

We stayed in the guest cottage by the side of the Farm itself, which brings you straight into the rustic feel of the place, with it's rich history. John was straight round to offer a drink or two whilst we watched the sun set behind the mountains in absolute serenity.

Marinda was also on hand to enquire about our preference for dinner, and ensure that we had settled-in. To complete the ultimate attention we were given, the family's dogs were up to see us and to complete the welcome!! Special mention has to be given to 'Woody' the little terrier who, although getting on a little now, and struggling with an unfortunate injury, still took the time to lead us on a walk down into the valley for the stunning views.

Dinner was a unique and fantastic experience for us as we joined the Moodies in their farmhouse for a beautiful meal with lovely wine and intriguing conversation.

After a great breakfast which incorporates all their fresh produce, time was still available, before we left the following day, for Miranda to take us on a 4x4 tour of the farm, and show us all the other properties that are dotted around.

We were very depressed to have to leave so soon, realising that at least another day is necessary to fully capture the beauty and uniqueness of John and Miranda's Honeywood Farm, and to appreciate their fantastic company. We WILL be back!

The Honeywoodfarm is the property of the Moody family. They live in a house in the middle of nowhere, tucked between mountains and forest. They have a few cottages at their huge property to rent for a very low price. Some cottages are for couples, others for bigger families, some are near the owners house, some are further away.
We stayed at the Woody's cottage, that's a two-room cottage a mile away from the owners house. It's isolated with only nature around you. The cottage has simple furniture and has no electricity, but it is fantastic because you're all by yourself with all the amenities you need (gasfridge, gasstove, bath, fire place, double bed, dinnertable, chairs and a great veranda with magnificent view!). We brought our own food for 2 days and just stayed in to read, relax, eat and sunbath. There a plenty of oppurtunities do some walks in the area as well.
It's a place we would definitly recommend to people who love the nature and silence. And if a isolated cottage is too isolated for you, we would recommend a cottage nearer to the owners house.
