After a long trip from Germany we got The Vineyard as a local recommendation for a nice diner - and we have been really impressed of the friendly and helpful service, the elegant and lovely decorated location and definitely the best food I got in UK during our 5days stay.
Try the "plates to share" with a friend as starter (we had the Fish plate) but you should be hungry enough for the following main course (both were excellent). Delightful wines, a various selection of good beers and drinks helped to have an evening we will happily think of.

A group of us are gradually walking and eating our way through the Elite pubs chain. We've visited the Dirty Habit and the Farmhouse and the Vineyard is the third. The walk around Scotney Castle which preceded lunch was one of the best. We really like the walk options that each pub provides. We had a nice table inside . The decor is very pleasant and the outside lovely and sprawling - lots of space if it's sunny. The setting is also great, again open, spacious, in a nice village setting. Our food took a while to come and not all of the staff made us feel welcome, but when the food came it was excellent and the staff attentive in replenishing water supplies etc. Both of the specials dishes - skate and rack of lamb were perfect. The puddings delicious and the coffee high quality. We voted it the best of the pubs so far ,although the Dirty Habit is a close second.

Nice venue and great garden but service with a smile never hurts! I have visited this pub twice in the last few weeks and each time the standard of service has been poor. The staff barely raise their heads when you walk in and after 10 people spending quite a lot of money on drinks and snacks, an acknowledgement as you leave doesn't seem too much to ask.

We had a family gathering here recently and rented the Garden Room due to the size of our party. Aline was very organised and helpful in all of the preparation and the food was excellent: more reminiscent of high-end dining rather than pub food. Everybody in our group was very satisfied with the £24 menu and we felt that you could pay that much elsewhere for food of half the quality. The portions were a decent size too so nobody went hungry.
