“Impressed by improved service”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

In my second visit to Grand Udawalawe Resort after one year , I have experienced a remarkable improvement in service . The room conditions were as good as my previous visit. The food , surrounding has been improved since .

The quality of service has been improved a lot . Whenever there is a difficulty with the front office staff , the supervisory personnel were available for help. The hotel management is accessible for resolving even minor issues. This attitude of the management is commendable.

It's been a great pleasurable experience staying at Grand Udawalawe. Hoping to visit again.

The mouse faeces in the bed could be overlooked as unfortunate as could the average food but when we departed we noticed we had been charged for items we did not recognise and were not backed up by a bar receipt. When we questioned the bill we were greeted by an overly aggressive attitude, even threats to call the police if we did not pay. An hour (!) later receipts were provided - but not only wasn't it our room, they were from before we had even checked in. Still they refused to accept any responsibility. When they did remove the erroneous, they attempted to charge us twice - eventually we left 90 minutes after checking out. Interpol have yet to contact us.

The Grand Udawalawe Safari Resort keeps the safari in the resort. There are monkeys playing near the dining room (but not in it), large black and tan squirrels scampering in the trees, harmless lizards in the garden and beautiful birds flying around. To add to the ambiance, the rooms come complete with nice balconies and very comfortable beds. The outdoor pool is clean and quite large. It was a very nice hotel and I wish we had had more time there.

We had a nice couple of days in the hotel until we did the check out. We went to the front desk at 7:35 am to pay the bill and when we checked the invoices there was an extra charged without the receipt. They had 30 min to resolve the problem as our departure was at 8 am and when we came back to the front desk they had not resolved it yet. They did not have the proof of the charge and suddenly they brought an invoice for another room and another signature. They took it out of our bill without apology. When i did the payment the card machine had problems and the lady in the front desk could not proof that the transaction was cancelled, so i denied to pay it twice without proof. so i needed to call to my bank to proof it as she told me to pay again without the receipt of transaction cancelled. We were very upset about it as it took nearly an hour to resolve the problem and our tour programme was severely delayed due to this matter. The lady at the front desk and Chatulanga the officer supervisor were very rude to us and to my tour guide. I made a complaint with the hotel manager to take some actions to this people.

Very comfortable modern hotel. The rooms were clean and tidy, service all round excellent. Buffet meals were of a good standard with a good selection of western and sri lankan dished. Ideal location to visit Udewalawe national Park and the Elephant Orphanage. Would recommend this hotel

Family of four (children 7 & 9). WE spent two nights here in order to do a couple of game drives in the national park. The room was clean and fir for purpose (shower curtains worked fine). Noisey AC but provided you cool the room during the day then you can switch it off at night and rely on the ceiling fan.
The staff at the hotel were very pleasant and helped where they were able to.
The hotel has a large and child-friendly swimming pool with life guard. Lots of bats, bugs and monkeys to keep small boys and girls occupied.
The catering is a a large buffet-style dining room, however the food was very good. Of particular note was the excellent Sri Lankan food which was truly delicious and is highly recommended for any foodie.

We stayed here for one night and enjoyed our stay. The room was large and spotless, Wifi was a bit dodgy in the room but that didn't really bother us. Another minor point was the shower curtains were hopeless which meant the bathroom flooded everytime we had a shower. The food was pretty good and the location is very convienent for safari's in the national park. We found the staff, esepcially in the restaurant to be very friendly and polite. We would definitely come here again if visiting Uda Walawe national park.
