Lunch at udawalawe...

Review of Elephant Trails
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 6 Feb 2019via mobile
Dropped in for lunch on the way to udawalawe national park
Sri Lankan buffet style lunch, ala-carte menu is also available for selecting other meal's.
Nice clean place just a few minutes drive to the park entrance.
Not a big variety or choice with the buffet style lunch

Was staying at the hotel for one night and the standard was pretty bad. First we were given a room with poop in our bed (from some kind of animal), the staff put it away, but when we turned back 2 hours later there was a new poop in our bed. The staff was friendly and gave us another room. However this one was full of mold in the bathroom. The bed was not comfortable and pretty noisy. The restaurant only offered a buffet and when we arrived one and a half hour before they were closing it was not much food left and they did not refill. I guess the hotel was pretty nice when it was new, but not anymore. On the plus side the Safari that the hotel arranged was very good and the staff was helpful and friendly!

We stayed here for one night after doing the afternoon safari. The room was fine—nice balcony and bathroom, though the bed was awful (springy and sagging mattress...we are delicate sleepers though). Beautiful pool, good breakfast with lots of choices. Restaurant expensive and mediocre. They charge double for bottled water (200rps). You are in a tourist trap here and they are well aware of that!

The staff was amazing—helping us find our phone left in the tuk tuk we arrived in and also hooking us up with a cheaper than quoted ride to Ella the next day.

Tip: don’t go through Booking.com. Call the hotel and reserve with the front desk. It will be cheaper, no hidden taxes added on when you pay and you’ll get a better room. We did this and booked our safari at the same time so all we had to do was arrive, check in,and we were on our way to the park.

We stayed one night here during our tour of Sri Lanka. The room was lovely and very close to Udawalele National Park. We experienced out first true Sri Lankan breakfast here, which was delicious. Our server Amelia was brilliant and really made our stay a delight.

We stayed here for 1 night before our safari in Udawalawe National Park. We were greeted by a glass of fresh juice which was very much appreciated. Our room was as expected from the photos - very spacious, clean room!! We did not have the correct adapter however the hotel bought 2 to our room for us to use which was great. We sat by the pool for a short period however, there were lots of bugs (not the hotels fault) so we used the WiFi for what we needed (only available in public areas) and went to our room. We ate at the restaurant for lunch and dinner which was nice - however, my fiancé had the English fish and chips - every mouthful was full of bones and the beef stroganoff - extremely chewy, borderline not edible. The purpose of the stay was to get a good night sleep before a very early start at 4:45am however, the hotel is on, what we learnt, a busy road where drivers speed along extremely fast beeping their horns in the middle of the night. Unfortunately we had an awful night sleep based on the noise but everything else was good.
