“THE best in town!”
Reviewed 30 January 2013

We have just spent 3 weeks at surfing villa and it was fantastic. Family run with a personal touch and a friendly social vibe. We ate out at differant resturants and hotels a few nights and were always disappointed that we didn't eat at ours. Friday night pizzas were great, fresh fish bbq.... I could go on and on. The swimming pool is lovely and clean. Rooms were big, clean and comfy bed. Amazing!!

Spotted this little gem via Google earth. Across the road from the main surf break. Really nice relaxed vibe. Good sized & well maintained pool. Only 6 rooms....a little dark but soon to be rectified if not already. Barbara, Edith and Arthur are excellent hosts.....genuinely nice, caring family. We felt right at home. They were able to organise transport, trips and anything else we could think up. The BIG PLUS for me was Barbara's cooking.....she is by far the best cook in Ahangama. All freshly prepared based on what's best available on the day......family style meals (GerLankan) at reasonable prices. Stayed for 3 weeks & our family of 5 loved it. We all highly recommend it!

I stayed at Surfing Villa on and off for weeks at a time from Jan to Mar 2011. After spending nearly a day searching for a nice, relaxing and comfortable resort near the Midigama and Ahangama area – we finally found THE perfect place to stay. Barbara and Artur, the owners, were the most gracious, warm and welcoming hosts I have ever met. This was the place I always went back to to relax after venturing out and taking excursions around Sri Lanka. Surfing Villa was my home away from home. The layout of the resort is comprised of 6 immaculate spacious rooms and a large clean swimming pool. There is a dining area beside the pool where most travellers gathered to socialize and a “hut” like bungalow built and perched above ground for some privacy. The resort is a few steps away from a long sandy stretch of beautiful beach. The sunrises and sunsets are magnificent. Conveniently located near the front of the resort, there is a bus stop that takes you towards Galle or Matara. Or, if you prefer - they can happily arrange a local tuk tuk driver to be your personal chauffeur for the day. I must also mention that the location of the resort is a great spot for surfers looking to catch some great waves. I’m not a surfer, but I met many surfers on their surf trip there and heard that this was one of the best surf spots along the southern coast of Sri Lanka. There are surfboards and boogie boards available for rent also. The atmosphere is great for solo travellers, families or couples. Food wise, if you are getting a bit tired of Sri Lankan cuisine (though they make delicious Sri Lanka dishes), Barbara has some incredible European culinary skills. Among her many delectable dishes, I absolutely loved her fried oyster mushrooms and potatoes, schnitzel, and various seafood dishes. Artur would go on early morning fishing trips and bring back the freshest seafood. Food was always prepared and served fresh and plated in a lovely manner. During my stay, I felt truly at home and was treated like family. It was very difficult to leave and to say goodbye. I will never forget my experience there and will always have the warmest and most fond memories of Surfing Villa. I hope to be back soon in the future. Barbara and Artur, I miss you…and also Skip Bo nights! =)

We discovered the Surfing Villa by accident and our only regret was that we found at the end of our 7 week stay in Sri Lanka. This little guest house is on the main road across from a large hotel on one of the best surfing beaches in the area. You do not get the view of the sea, but believe me, you won't miss it! They have both double and single rooms, with air con and fans and mosquito nets. Our room was simple and spacious, spotlessly clean and very comfortable with a sitting area, separate bathroom and plenty of space to hang your clothes and store your bags.(This is not the norm from our experience) The owners, Barbara and Artur are charming and friendly, so much so that you will never want to leave. Barbara and her lovely assistant prepare all the meals from scratch, often with fresh fish and seafood caught by Artur himself. We enjoyed a wide variety of meals from European to Sri Lankan and all cooked to perfection and beautifully presented and at such a reasonable price. The Villa also has a good size swimming pool so you can relax and swim or sunbathe when you've had enough of the beach. The beach across the road is beautiful and the surf when its on provides one of the best rides we found in the area and you will most likely have it to yourself! Sunsets are amazing and you can enjoy watching the stick fishermen as the sun goes down in paradise. Barbara and Artur can arrange trips for you from the Villa, or you can hop on the local buses right outside the gate. If you are looking for a quiet and comfortable place to stay overnight or for a week or two, you won't do better than this. It is one of the best and excellent value for money. Barbara and Artur are wonderful and will do all they can to make your holiday memorable.
