“Not worth it”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 January 2013

The doorman is quite rude and the management inexistent. Poolside is nice though. Considering the other options available around I did not feel that was good value or the best possible pick one can make.

Room Tip: Pick the rooms furthest to the Matara main Rd

An extremely hard to believe comment. For just 33 rooms we have 3 senior management staff, therefore I am taken aback whether it is fair to make such a comment of management in-existent and I am wondering if this is a mixed up comment about another hotel as we don’t have a doorman in the first place. We reassure that there is so much value for money.

This was a basic hotel but the room was large, very clean and had a good shower. However, there is no TV, fridge or minibar. The location is fantastic as it leads straight onto the beach. The pool area was nice. The staff were very friendly.

We were supposedly in the "upgraded' rooms. Even though this is a beach resort, it is right by the main road. Trucks drive past 24 hours a day and it is very noisy. In addition, they were doing some work on the building during our two day stay, so there was a lot of banging noise during the day. I also had a knock-walk in by what I assume was a construction worker. I heard a knock and yelled a response, but with the road noise he must not have heard me. Thankfully I was fully dressed when he walked in my room!

There was no safe in the room. No television in the entire facility; the one in the lobby was broken. There is free WiFi but only on the second floor above the bar. This area did not have A/C.

The restaurant requires that you order 45 minutes in advance. The price of some items on the menu are per kg, so you may be priced much more than the listed price depending on how many kg you are served.

The beds were the shortest of any I slept on in Sri Lanka. I had to pull out the top sheet and sleep with my feet hanging over the edge. I am only 5'10".

Cocktails are strong. The beach view is great. The water is warm and there is a good swimming area. You can't lie on the beach or walk without the "helping people" bothering you. Once you are in the water they leave you alone. If you are on the edge of the resort property, they will still bug you by shouting over the fence.

We went for a walk outside the resort and found the front gate to be locked when we returned. It took a while to rouse someone to unlock it; we were worried.

This resort is nice for the beach, but bad for sleeping. Take your choice.

Room Tip: Try to get away from the road as far as possible

We were based here as part of an Exodus wildlife tour for 4 nights. It is ideally based about 20 minutes from Mirissa the base for our whale watching trips. The staff are very friendly and our room 305 was very clean and faced the ocean. We only had our evening meal at the hotel but they provided us with a packed breakfast each morning. The food is buffet style and although the choice wasn't vast there was something for everyone. It was nice to have a choice to relax around the pool or just walk onto the beach in the afternoons. We weren't hassled too much by the locals on the beach and it didn't put us off. As we had to leave the hotel at dawn for our trips it was nice to see the stilt fishermen right outside the hotel. For anyone wanting to break the journey up between Colombo and Yala national park this is an ideal hotel to stay at.

Spent two nights here on Exodus Tour. Upon arrival received a warm welcome with chilled juice (no cool towel). Hotel reception and restaurant area are open so nice breezes flow.

Received room #306, a newly refurbished room. Very modern and spacious. Nice decor and furnishings. Two chairs, desk and wardrobe (but no hangars). 2 free bottles of water daily. No TV/phone, no kettle for tea/coffee. Bathroom is nicely done, but no wash cloths or hand towels. Hair dryer available to borrow from reception.

Lovely beach in front of hotel. A woman wearing an Exodus hat sells shirts, sarongs, etc outside the hotel on the beach-good prices and she doesn't pressure you that much. Nice walking on the beach, but you might feel "hassled" by local guys unless you're with a man (sorry, it's true).

Gated hotel with full sliding metal gate and friendly guard.

Short walk (5 minutes) to local restaurants, grocery, produce market, and a bus stop is nearly out front of the hotel. We took the #350 bus to Galle (round trip for 72 rupees).

Breakfast was pretty good; not the best we've had, but not the worst, either. Good curries. Didn't eat dinner here, so can't say.

Nice pool. You can check out games, balls, etc from reception for free. Relaxing!

Air con meeting/conference area above reception. There's free wifi in this location only. Manager on site, willing to help.

I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Room #306 is on the end, so we had windows on 2 sides. Faces west, so you'll get afternoon sun b...

My stay at 'Insight' was part of a 2 week tour of Sri Lanka. The management and staff were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. It is in a beautiful location right off the beach and you could see the stilt fisherman from the hotel grounds.
I loved the cricket games there and with the Indian Ocean as a backdrop- it was a brilliant experience! It was perfect how you could choose to have a 'quiet' time and/or you could ask to join in with games and entertainment.
I intend to return to Sri Lanka and would definitly visit 'Insight' again! Julie

Insight is in an idyllic setting as the rooms, dining area and pool area overlooks the sea and the hotel is situated next to the beach.

It is perfect for just relaxing by the pool and the bar and restaurant facilities are very convenient. The disco and impromptu cricket games were a bonus. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful.

As part of an organised trip, my stay was only two nights, however, had I not been part of an organised trip, I would have stayed there much longer. Even though my stay was short, I left feeling relaxed. Of all the hotels I stayed in in Sri Lanka, this was the most memorable! When I return to Sri Lanka, I intend returning to this hotel.
